Upon realizing that I was bound, I struggled to get up, but the slightest movement sent waves of excruciating pain throughout my body.
I wanted to scream, but the agony rendered me voiceless. I could only grit my teeth as beads of sweat rolled down my forehead.
"What’s happening? Am I not dead? Where am I right now?!" I thought, forcing myself to endure the pain as I strained to look around.
The exquisite display cabinets surrounding me resembled those in the residence of the Sun Warrior Leader, yet here I lay on a stone bed.
"Could it be that I've returned to the place of the Path Slayer... It can't be... how could this happen..." I muttered to myself when suddenly, I heard voices outside.
I quickly silenced myself, biting my teeth to suppress any sound, and listened intently. A man outside said, "The leader has returned in such a terrible state; his hand is broken. I've never seen him like this before..."
Another man replied, "Forget about the leader; it seems the two newcomers we just took in are worse off. One has shattered bones all over, and the other... I'm not sure if he was poisoned or came into contact with something, but his skin is rotting. It's truly horrifying to look at..."
As they spoke, the two men approached the door. Upon seeing that I was awake, they hurried to my bedside and addressed me respectfully, "Shen, you’re awake! How do you feel? Are you doing better?"
I managed to respond weakly, "You’ve tied me up like this; how could I possibly feel better?"
Upon hearing this, both men displayed helpless expressions and replied, "Please don’t blame us; it was the leader's orders. He was worried that if you woke up and moved around, your injuries would worsen. We had no choice but to bind you."
"Where is the leader?" I asked.
The man who answered me immediately turned to his companion and said, "Quickly, go tell the leader that Shen is awake!"
The other man nodded in agreement and hurried off. It seemed that the remaining man held a slightly higher position than his companion.
"Shen, you've been unconscious for quite a while; you must be thirsty. Let me get you a glass of water..." The man rubbed his hands together and spoke with concern. However, before I could respond, another person entered the room and interrupted him.
"Shen is tired; you shouldn't disturb him any longer. Please step outside," came a voice as I turned to see Er Ye dressed in black, hands clasped behind his back as he approached me slowly.
The man by my bedside bowed in acknowledgment and reluctantly left, leaving only Er Ye and me in the room.
Er Ye approached the bedside, extending one hand from behind him, forming a fist, and disdainfully said, “Shen Xu, do you know? Right now, if I wanted to kill you, it would be easier than squashing an ant.”
I glanced at him and scoffed, “If you really wanted to kill me, you wouldn’t be telling me this. What do you want?”
“Smart as ever…” Er Ye put his hand back behind him and began pacing around the bed, speaking softly, “I want your position.”
“You want my position? Sure…” I understood that he was referring to my current status as Yang Master, but I feigned ignorance to provoke him. Soon enough, Sun Warrior Leader would come rushing over upon hearing that I had awakened. I was curious to see how Er Ye would handle that…
“Help me untie these straps and lift me up; this bed will be yours.”
“Stop pretending!” Er Ye was indeed provoked. He stopped in front of the bed, bent down, and glared at me fiercely, saying, “You can’t possibly not know what I mean. I warn you, if you refuse to hand over your position, I will make you feel the pain of losing both parents!”
Upon hearing this, I thought to myself that now Sun Warrior Leader needed leverage to keep me by his side, and my parents were the most crucial bargaining chip. If Er Ye could easily kill my parents, he would never be able to become Sun Warrior Leader.
Just then, I wanted to say, “If you have the ability, go ahead…” but before I could speak those words, another thought crossed my mind. It seemed that in the Underworld, Sun Warrior Leader had already used Fiery Annihilation. Even if he miraculously survived, the power of the Void Spirit within him should have been exhausted by now; he would be incapable of commanding the other Yang Masters.
At that point, this ambitious Er Ye would undoubtedly seize the leader's position. Not only would my parents' lives be in danger, but both Yao Long and I would also face death…
With that thought in mind, I quickly organized my thoughts and realized that I couldn’t provoke this person too much right now. At least I couldn’t let him act impulsively and expose the fact that Sun Warrior Leader had lost his power. So, I gritted my teeth and pretended to be angry yet unable to speak out. “You just want a position, right? When the leader arrives, I’ll talk to him; after all, this matter isn’t solely up to me…”
“Fine, I’ll wait for your news. Give me a response within three days; if it’s not what I want…” He leaned slightly closer to my ear and continued, “You know what the consequences will be…”
With that said, he straightened up, gave me a feigned smile, and turned to leave.
Now alone on the bed, I felt anxious. But what worried me wasn’t what Er Ye had said; it was the fact that Sun Warrior Leader had lost his power…
As I contemplated this, steady footsteps sounded from outside. Before long, Sun Warrior Leader appeared at the door with several attendants. After entering the room and glancing at me and then at his attendants behind him, he said, “Alright, there’s nothing for you here; you can go.”
With that, the attendants bowed deeply to Sun Warrior Leader before turning to leave.
Afterward, Sun Warrior Leader closed the door behind him and locked it before speaking up. “Er Ye came by just now, didn’t he?”
"Mm." I replied softly.
"I know what he has done to you without even thinking... This person has great ambitions. Even though he appears loyal to me on the surface, once he sees an opportunity, he will turn against me. That's why I've always been hesitant to give him a high position... Sigh..." The Sun Warrior Leader sighed deeply.
At that moment, I noticed that the Sun Warrior Leader's right hand was bandaged and there were several pieces of gauze on his neck and chest. It seemed he had indeed sustained serious injuries.
He walked in front of me, frowning as he said, "However, compared to my situation, yours is even worse. The Void Spirit within you seems to have disappeared, so your injuries can no longer heal themselves. In other words... you will become a cripple for life..."
Upon hearing this, I was taken aback. I hadn't been particularly worried about myself because I could always heal quickly with the help of the Void Spirit's power, but now I found out that the Void Spirit had vanished.
This blow felt like a thunderclap to me. "No way, you must be mistaken..." I said incredulously.
The Sun Warrior Leader shook his head. "I know it's hard for you to accept, but this is the truth. Surviving in such circumstances is already a stroke of luck..."
