The last words of the Sun Warrior Leader confirmed my thoughts; it was indeed all orchestrated by Er Ye. But why, as the leader of this organization, did he not intervene to stop it?
Could it be that he actually condoned Er Ye's actions and turned a blind eye? Or was there something more to the story?
Watching Yao Long follow the Sun Warrior Leader as they slowly walked out, a multitude of questions flashed through my mind. However, I refrained from asking directly and instead tried to connect the clues I had gathered so far...
"On the surface, it seems that Er Ye holds great respect for the Sun Warrior Leader, yet behind his back, he acts against the Leader's wishes, engaging in those despicable deeds? No, that can't be right. If the Sun Warrior Leader is aware of these matters, then if he opposed them, there would be no reason to let Er Ye run rampant like this. Thus, there can only be one possibility..."
As I pondered this in my mind, suddenly the wooden cabinet door creaked open with a "creak," and Wang Bin stumbled out, saying, "I have no idea what's in that cabinet; it's suffocating me. If you don't finish up soon, I might just pass out."
If it weren't for his voice, I might have forgotten Wang Bin was still inside. I turned to look at him and immediately broke into a cold sweat. In the dim light, I saw that his left eye was wrapped in gauze and soaked with blood; the adhesive tape beside it was gradually peeling off due to the blood, yet he seemed completely oblivious.
Seeing this, I ignored his words and reminded him, "Wang Bin, your eye..."
Wang Bin hurriedly pressed the tape back on and said, "It's fine; I'm feeling much better now. I found some painkillers in the cabinet earlier. It doesn't hurt anymore; I should be okay by tomorrow..."
After a moment, he rewrapped his wound and smiled as if nothing had happened. "Alright, Shen, since you've already eaten, I won't disturb your rest any longer. I'll take my leave."
"You..." His demeanor struck me as very strange. I wanted to ask him some questions, but the words caught in my throat. All I could do was watch him leave the room.
At that moment, lying on the hard stone bed, I felt a chill run down my spine. I thought to myself, "There's definitely something off about Wang Bin. If it were anyone else who had their eye stabbed out, even if they were numb from painkillers, they would still show signs of grief over losing an eye. Yet he seems unconcerned—why is that?"
"No, something must be wrong here. Am I missing something? The Sun Warrior Leader, Er Ye, and this strange Wang Bin..." Lying alone on the bed while gazing up at the intricately carved Flower Board above me, I muttered to myself in hopes of uncovering some clue that could resolve my confusion.
I don't know how long passed without any insights coming to me. As the effects of the sedative wore off completely, waves of intense pain began to assault my nerves, making it impossible for my brain to function normally.
Enduring the pain for what felt like an eternity until it became unbearable, I finally opened my mouth and shouted: "Is anyone there... anyone at all? Please come quickly! Hurry!"
After calling out several times, footsteps approached from outside. Moments later, Er Ye stood at the door. He looked at me with a disdainful expression and said, "Stop shouting; I've sent everyone away. No matter how much you yell, no one will respond. If you have something to say, just tell me."
"Give... give me the Painkiller..." I gritted my teeth, beads of sweat rolling down my cheeks, my entire body feeling as if it were being sliced by countless knives.
Er Ye heard my words but made no move. He simply rubbed his nails against his clothes casually and said, "When we first fought, I thought you were a tough guy. Can't even handle this little pain?"
At that moment, I had no energy to bicker with him. I just wanted to relieve the pain in my body as quickly as possible, so I shouted at him again, "Stop talking! Just... just give me the Painkiller!"
Er Ye smirked and stepped closer, saying softly, "Weren't you quite impressive before? You want the Painkiller? Fine, kneel down and beg me... Oh, sorry, I forgot you're a useless person now... Let's just say I'm feeling sorry for you..."
With that, he turned and walked to the medicine cabinet, pulling out a syringe. With a menacing look, he approached me and raised the syringe high, saying, "This is what I'm giving you; remember this kindness..."
"What... what are you doing?!" I exclaimed in shock.
Er Ye ignored my question and suddenly brought his hand down. The needle pierced my body in an instant as he pushed the medication into me.
Moments later, my emotions began to calm down, and my body felt significantly lighter. Before long, I drifted off into a deep sleep.
...
"Hey, Shen Xu, wake up..." In my dream, I vaguely heard someone calling my name repeatedly. The voice sounded somewhat urgent. I opened my eyes to see Sun Warrior Leader, Yao Long, and Er Ye standing at the foot of my bed. It was Yao Long who was calling me, his face still showing some concern.
"What happened..." I blinked groggily; the effects of the sedative still clouded my mind.
"Didn't you discuss with me yesterday about giving your position to Er Ye?" Sun Warrior Leader said while frowning at me.
Realizing what he meant made me snap awake. He was planning to carry out what he had mentioned yesterday. So I tried to clear my head and feigned reluctance as I said, "I only told you about it; I didn't intend to give up this position..."
"You don't need to," Sun Warrior Leader interrupted me with a raised hand. "You're a useless person now. When I brought you in, I hoped you would serve me well, but I never expected you'd end up like this... To be blunt, you're no longer of any use to me."
Hearing these words, I knew it was all just an act for Er Ye, yet I still felt extremely uncomfortable. If it weren't for the performance, I might have truly been enraged by now.
"In the Underworld, it was because of me that you were able to escape. Now you actually forget your gratitude, not only refusing to find a way to save me but also trying to strip me of my position. Can you really face your conscience?!"
"Conscience?" Sun Warrior Leader chuckled, a hint of cunning flashing across his face. "Have you forgotten who I am? Conscience with me? Ridiculous..."
I gritted my teeth and glared at him in frustration. "If I had known this would happen, I should never have joined you. I've truly been blind! Yao Long, let's go!"
Upon hearing this, Yao Long understood and nodded. He stepped forward to carry me and intended to leave.
At this moment, according to the plan, Sun Warrior Leader should have stopped us from leaving, leading to a dispute and then a fight. But unexpectedly, before Sun Warrior Leader could make a move, Er Ye had already appeared in front of Yao Long and me without us noticing. He drew the knife that had injured Wang Bin from his cloak and waved it in front of us. "You think you can just leave? It's not that easy!"
With that, he ruthlessly lunged the knife toward Yao Long's chest...
