Xiao Qiang always dreamed the same dream. In the dream, there was a pregnant woman lying in a pool of blood. Something seemed to be moving inside her protruding belly... He felt a strange connection to the pregnant woman, a sense of familiarity that he couldn't quite explain.
The sound of wheels rolling, the noisy chatter, and the startled cries of doctors and nurses filled the air.
A rough Chain kept swaying in front of Xiao Qiang. He remembered wearing this Chain around his neck. He reached out to grab it, but felt only emptiness, grasping at air as it slipped through his fingers.
Wen Kai appeared, grinning widely. He held a glass vial containing disgusting Bloodline Worms... He handed it to Xiao Qiang, saying, "This is it..."
Suddenly, he was jolted awake. The sequence of the dream became chaotic, impossible to piece together... A burning pain shot through his chest. Slowly lifting his shirt, he saw several marks resembling birthmarks on his chest, fresh and new... These hadn't been there before? It felt strange as he reached out to touch them... The marks were almost part of his body, not sinking under his touch.
Amy moved slowly, wheeling herself closer to his bedside.
"Why aren't you sleeping?" she asked.
"I don't sleep; I'm charging your weapon energy," Amy suddenly spoke in an adult simulation voice, soft and feminine.
"What are you doing, changing your voice?"
"I think I've fallen in love with you," Amy said with a playful glimmer, her demeanor reminiscent of a beautiful girl winking.
"Pfft, don't joke around; I won't fall for you." Xiao Qiang reached for water. His hand was still in mid-air when Amy's metal arm delivered a bag of dairy products.
"What is this? Are you sure it's not expired?"
"Nothing expired will appear here; drink up without worry." Amy reverted to her original form and asked in a childish voice, "Do you love Lin Yu?"
Releasing the straw, Xiao Qiang replied seriously, "Don't make wild guesses... Uh, I still want to sleep."
"Then go ahead and sleep!" Amy prepared to leave.
"Can you do me a favor?"
"Command me."
"Help me record my dreams."
"I cannot agree; Amy does not like to involve personal matters."
"Stop talking, hurry up." Xiao Qiang rolled over and quickly got dressed, glancing at his watch. It was 6:18 AM. There was still half an hour until dawn. "We're running out of time."
Amy turned the wheel, and a rumbling noise echoed in her head. She slowly led the way into the Heart Chamber, establishing an electromagnetic connection as the Monitor activated. Then, without Xiao Qiang's command, she entered the sleeping quarters of the Fourth Group members...
Once Xiao Qiang was dressed, he habitually strapped the Flame Laser Gun to his arm. Only then did he enter Li Hang's bedroom. Amy rotated her head and raised her claw-like arm to make a "Y" gesture (OK), indicating that deep sleep mode had been activated, allowing him to operate with confidence.
Xiao Qiang nodded and gave a thumbs-up in approval before activating the hidden projection Monitor in Li Hang's bed...
He raised his arm and adjusted the Flame Laser Gun to scanning mode. A blue arc of light tilted toward Li Hang's head, scanning him one by one. The Monitor projected the entire structure and activity of the scanned subject's brain.
As expected, Li Hang indeed had no chip... Was he afraid of Amy's scan? Could that be the reason? Time was tight; there was no extra time for analysis or reflection. He needed to finish checking the brain conditions of the other three before dawn.
The second subject for scanning: Lin Yu.
Using such a despicable method to scan Lin Yu felt wrong; Xiao Qiang hesitated. Scanning someone without their knowledge was almost like spying.
"Xiao Qiang..." Amy urged.
Time waits for no one. Xiao Qiang nodded firmly and began... The arc of light moved in a fan shape, slanting downward. Operating the Monitor, Amy emitted another rumbling sound. He glanced up slightly... There was a flickering starlight in Lin Yu's brain; although it was just a flash, the conclusion was clear—she had a chip in her brain...
Wu Yi was also scanning. The result was: there was a chip.
There were still two minutes until dawn when Xiao Qiang left. Amy activated her natural sleep mode and quietly departed...
For breakfast, they had ham, tomato, and egg sandwiches with milk tea. Li Hang and Wu Yi focused on getting food into their mouths, while Lin Yu seemed preoccupied, glancing at Xiao Qiang intentionally or unintentionally.
Xiao Qiang spread his hands, tilted his head, and asked Lin Yu, "Do I have something on my face?"
Lin Yu quickly averted her gaze and whispered, "No."
"Then why do you keep looking at me?"
"..." Lin Yu's face flushed slightly, feeling a bit awkward, but she stubbornly retorted, "If you weren't looking at me, how would you know I was looking at you?" After her counter-question, her expression darkened as if she were genuinely angry, and she stood up to leave.
"Is she on edge?" Xiao Qiang said self-deprecatingly to Li Hang and Wu Yi.
"Loneliness is the culprit..." Wu Yi chuckled mischievously.
Li Hang teased, "Our goddess is only fit to be a goddess, not a wife."
Wu Yi pretended to be confused and frowned. "Why not?"
"Who would want to marry someone who isn't feminine? A fierce woman?"
"Are you guys going to stop insulting people or not eat?" Xiao Qiang interrupted them with a cold expression, her eyes reflecting an unpredictable glint.
Lin Yu and Amy entered. Whoosh! The three pairs of eyes focused on her. Feeling uncomfortable under their scrutiny, she forced a stern demeanor and cleared her throat seriously. "Today's primary mission is to locate Wen Kai. We will split into two groups: one will search for Wen Kai, while the other will handle all the system equipment and electromagnetic conditions in the spaceship room." In her view, Wen Kai's disappearance seemed to hint at another secret they had long wanted to uncover—the truth behind the disappearance of others in the base.
Wu Yi raised his hand and volunteered, "I'll team up with Xiao Qiang."
Li Hang shot a glare at Wu Yi and didn’t waste any time, kicking the ground as he said seriously, "Xiao Qiang and I are the best partners."
"Who teams up with whom is up to me, not you," Lin Yu said, his face flushing as he emphasized, "I’m teaming up with Xiao Qiang. Li Hang, you know Wen Kai's habits well, so you’ll pair up with Wu Yi. Be careful while searching outside and make sure to return to the base before dark. No mistakes allowed."
"Understood," Li Hang nodded, looking dismissive, but Lin Yu caught the attitude.
"Li Hang, what’s with your attitude?"
"Come on, is 'understood' not good enough?"
Xiao Qiang stood by, unsure of what to say. He could only silently accept the arrangement…
Wu Yi shot Li Hang a strange smile as he geared up and nodded to Xiao Qiang and Li Yu, saying, "Let’s get going."
Xiao Qiang and Lin Yu had a lot to do, including connecting the electromagnetic lines and establishing communication with the outside world (the headquarters), as well as gathering information on the personnel who had been stationed earlier and their numbers.
