The empty corridor echoed with the monotonous sound of footsteps and faint gasps for breath. Shadows flickered and danced in the dim light, making it impossible to distinguish between human figures and mere silhouettes. Xiao Qiang had been running for a while when his heightened sixth sense suddenly picked up an unusual presence nearby. 0

He spun around, his gaze fixating on a moving shadow against the wall of the corridor. Taking a few quick steps closer, he finally saw it clearly. It was a body suspended in mid-air, its neck ensnared by a copper wire as thick as a thumb... 0

Upon seeing the hanging corpse, Xiao Qiang was immediately engulfed by a wave of guilt. He looked up and whispered, "Wen Kai?" 0

As if confirming his identity, the body turned slightly to face him just as he called out Wen Kai's name—its face was a ghastly shade of purplish-red, bloodied and with bulging eyes. A chill ran down his spine, and he froze momentarily, exclaiming in horror before impulsively rushing forward to embrace Wen Kai's legs, preparing to bring him down. 0

Emotions can be deadly! Just as Xiao Qiang carelessly wrapped his arms around Wen Kai's lifeless form, another copper wire of similar thickness shot out like a spirit snake, swiftly tightening around his neck. His legs dangled helplessly as he struggled in vain... 0

He could feel his eyes bulging from the pressure, on the verge of bursting—his throat constricted painfully, and he was close to suffocating. Instinctively, he tried to push against the wire choking him, but his fingers were caught in its grip. 0

Xiao Qiang fought desperately with his legs flailing aimlessly in the air. Despite being suspended, he instinctively kicked out in panic. The sensation of hopelessness crept over him as he thought: How tragic! It seems I underestimated my enemies; dying here at the hands of this heartless yet highly intelligent Skeleton Mutant is utterly unjust. 0

When two Skeleton Mutants appeared before him, each wielding a steel bar, he realized just how foolish he had been to rely solely on assumptions without thinking critically. 0

The two Skeleton Anomalies looked down at their nearly lifeless prey with gleeful anticipation, drooling greedily as they reached out with their pale, emaciated claws to touch Xiao Qiang. 0

One of the Skeleton Anomalies seemed unable to wait any longer; it opened its mouth wide and lunged at Xiao Qiang's legs hanging in mid-air— 0

In that critical moment, a lightning-fast figure shot forward, piercing through the chest of one Skeleton Mutant with a metallic device that emitted a piercing wail. The wire suspending Xiao Qiang snapped with a sharp crack. 0

As Xiao Qiang fell to the ground, he was astonished to see who had saved him—Wen Kai! In the blink of an eye, Wen Kai unleashed a flurry of strikes that killed both Skeleton Mutants. 0

It couldn't be; Wen Kai was dead! How could he possibly appear so alive and vigorous before him? For a fleeting moment, Xiao Qiang could hardly believe the reality unfolding before his eyes. 0

When Wen Kai extended his hand with a smile, he asked, "How are you? Are you alright?" The voice was unmistakably Wen Kai's, but… 0

Wen Kai followed Xiao Qiang's gaze to the lifeless body sprawled on the ground. With a bitter smile, he shrugged and said, "I have questioned how Regardless could not understand what happened. This person is like a mirror to me." 0

"You are a mutant?" 0

"Are you not?" Wen Kai maintained his smile, his earnest gaze fixed on Xiao Qiang. 0

Xiao Qiang gritted his teeth and managed a wry smile as he reached out to grasp Wen Kai's hand. "The truth will reveal itself; it's all in our hands." 0

Wen Kai nodded. "Are they alright?" 0

"They're fine." Remembering the danger from earlier, Xiao Qiang felt a lingering sense of unease, an old feeling of inferiority creeping back into his heart. He felt uncomfortable and didn't want to say much more… 0

"Don't dwell on what just happened. Remember, you owe me a life." 0

"Uh." Xiao Qiang turned away, forcing out a strained smile. "I'm just glad you're okay. You should find out who this Brother of yours, who looks so much like you, really is." 0

"Actually, it's not hard to find out; it depends on how you investigate," Wen Kai replied as he rolled up his sleeve, revealing a set of embedded codes on his arm: JD10 Wen Kai. 0

Then, under Xiao Qiang's astonished gaze, he lifted the sleeve of the man who looked like his twin brother to reveal the code on his arm: JD9 Wen Kai. 0

"Cloning?" The words slipped out reluctantly from Xiao Qiang's lips, and he felt a heavy chill settle in his heart, as if he were falling into an abyss. 0

"Perhaps," Wen Kai said, confusion evident in his eyes. "What should we do next?" 0

Avoiding topics that might affect their emotions, Xiao Qiang got straight to the point: "Can you tell me honestly, are there many of these Skeleton Anomalies?" 0

"Yes, a lot. It's like a legion; they keep reproducing," Wen Kai replied. 0

Hearing this, Xiao Qiang felt as if a heavy stone had been pressed onto his heart, weighing him down. 0

As they continued to speak and move forward according to their original plan, Xiao Qiang noticed that the weapon Wen Kai was holding was similar to that of the Skeleton Mutants—both wielded Steel Bars, the sharp kind. 0

"What about your gun?" Xiao Qiang asked. 0

"Do you think I can survive relying on a gun? That thing is only useful for a moment. Anything made by humans has its limits and constraints. This," Wen Kai said, raising the Steel Bar in his hand with a grim expression, "is a permanent self-defense weapon." 0

"Got it." Xiao Qiang also spotted a small group of Skeleton Anomalies leaping toward them from a distance. The two exchanged a knowing glance and took off running. 0

Wen Kai made a slashing motion across his throat and grinned mischievously. "Gotcha." 0

"One strike to kill," Xiao Qiang responded, indicating his heart. 0

"Count it down." 0

"Okay." 0

"If you concede, you can make a run for it. You're like a leopard..." 0

“...Don't worry, I won't run away.” 0

“Alright then, let's give it a try. We'll unleash our ultimate move and send those damn skeletons to meet their maker.” 0

“Not the skeletons, they're too disgusting. Don't dirty your tongue.” 0

“Haha, right, the tongue is for charming the ladies. I'll use this...” Wen Kai laughed heartily as he brandished the Steel Bar. 0

As he spoke, Xiao Qiang dashed into the fray with the speed of a leopard, charging into the swarm of Skeleton Anomalies. He struck left and right, his hands quick, eyes sharp, and reflexes agile. The dancing dagger sliced through the air with the swiftness of cutting watermelons. With each slash, he counted the number of Skeleton Anomalies whose throats he had cut, skillfully dodging countless attacks from the relentless foes. 0

Wen Kai wielded the seemingly clumsy Steel Bar, creating a whirlwind that kept the Skeleton Anomalies at bay. From within this swirling shadow, he struck with precision, targeting the hearts of the Skeleton Anomalies. Each hit landed true, causing them to tremble and fall lifeless to the ground. 0

The two bloodied warriors, covered in the foul ichor of their enemies, continued to keep score. “Twenty-four!” Xiao Qiang shouted. 0

“Damn it, you're eight short!” Wen Kai replied. Beneath their feet lay a sea of blood and heaps of fallen Skeleton Anomalies, while in the distance, another wave of ferocious Supernatural beings surged forth. 0

Xiao Qiang understood. The cunning Skeleton Anomalies were employing a strategy of attrition, intending to wear him and Wen Kai down until they could no longer fight back. 0
