"It's nothing, just scaring myself!" Wu Yi stared blankly at the intercom that was crackling with noise, clumsily and slowly putting on the headset. 0

The voice of Xiao Qiang came through the headset: "Li Hang, please respond if you hear me." 0

They were looking for Li Hang? Wu Yi ripped off the headset, a complex expression flashing in his eyes. He turned his gaze, glaring fiercely at Li Hang, who was inside the sleep pod. After a moment, he remembered something and hurriedly grabbed the headset again, shouting into the now silent intercom, "Xiao Qiang... Oh no! What’s wrong with me?" 0

Wu Yi let out a painful wail... He felt that ever since entering this place, something had invaded his brain, leaving him sometimes clear-headed and other times muddled. His consciousness and entire thought process seemed to belong to someone else. 0

Often at times like this, Wu Yi would frantically wash his hair with a bottle of cleansing shampoo from the storage pod. Many times, he mistakenly believed that there was something wrong with his hair; that strange feeling seemed to be coming from his strands. 0

It was as if something bizarre was hidden within his hair, trying to control him... 0

Xiao Qiang, unable to connect with Li Hang, wondered privately: What’s going on? Could there be an issue in the control room? 0

Wen Kai noticed Xiao Qiang frowning but didn’t say anything. Instead, he asked curiously, "Is there something wrong?" 0

"Nothing much, maybe it's just too far away to make contact." 0

"Oh." 0

Xiao Qiang had initially wanted to contact Lin Yu as well but realized it would be pointless. Since they couldn't connect while inside the spaceship pod, it would be even more impossible to reach anyone several meters below ground in the Stratum. Perhaps their previous contact had been a stroke of luck combined with air entering through an opening, bringing along some information. 0

After their exchange, silence fell again, yet it did not slow their pace as they continued forward. The corridor was narrow, flanked by various rusted pipes. Some markings on the pipes were in languages they couldn’t comprehend. At that moment, there was no time to study the writing; they felt an overwhelming sense of darkness surrounding them. Without their watches, they truly wouldn’t know whether it was day or night. 0

Both men harbored their own thoughts as they cautiously advanced. The oppressive silence was unbearable; Wen Kai opened his mouth several times as if wanting to speak but hesitated. Finally, after passing through the fifth Gate, he could no longer hold back and brought up something that had been on Xiao Qiang's mind but he couldn't recall. 0

"Do you remember what happened before we came here?" 0

"I don't remember. Initially, I had some impression in my mind that we graduated from the Chemistry Department. We were admitted by some special department as an exception and then signed a Life-and-Death Contract for training... Now that memory is almost fading away..." 0

"Ah! Yes, I feel the same way. When I accidentally fell into this place, it felt like a nightmare, waking up to find myself lying on a rough pipe. I can't remember what happened before, but your faces are still vividly etched in my mind. As for the rest..." At that moment, Wen Kai seemed like a different person, devoid of his previous arrogance and mischief. 0

"Did you accidentally eat something when entering the base?" 0

"That shouldn't be the case..." Wen Kai was about to say more when he suddenly noticed Xiao Qiang raising a finger, signaling him with a glance as if hinting that something was behind them... 0

His heart skipped a beat as he thought: If a few Skeleton Mutants appeared now, they could handle them. But if a large number of Skeleton Mutants showed up, it would undoubtedly mean their death sentence. 0

Xiao Qiang had just expended a lot of energy; recovering in a short time would be a problem... 0

In some aspects, Wen Kai felt inferior. For instance, in hearing—Xiao Qiang's ear sensitivity was unmatched. Even if a single hair floated through the air currents in front of him, he would hear it. 0

Thus, Wen Kai was very attentive to Xiao Qiang's reactions... Seeing the latter looking back frequently with a nervous expression, Xiao Qiang casually said, "It's nothing; maybe it's just other creatures hiding in the pipes making noise." 0

"Let's hope so." Wen Kai suddenly smiled and said, "Did we study together?" 0

"Yeah, you wouldn't forget that too, would you?" Xiao Qiang replied in surprise. 0

"It's strange; familiar yet unfamiliar memories keep popping up in my mind. But they always feel elusive, like a woman's sheer garment." 0

"If I say this is a normal reaction due to artificial memory erasure before we came here..." Xiao Qiang turned to look at Wen Kai's astonished face and continued, "On the way here, I kept racking my brain but couldn't remember... It feels like someone deliberately linked us five together, making us feel close and dependent on each other... but all I can recall is that you used to bully me and called me a freak; I can't remember anything else." 0

"..." Wen Kai grinned and said, "I hope you turn that page; I don't want to be accused of bullying an honest person." 0

"You..." As Xiao Qiang spoke, he had already turned around, his sharp gaze fixed behind him as he shouted loudly, "Who?" 0

Just as Xiao Qiang shouted out loud, Wen Kai kicked off and leaped forward, his Steel Bar aimed directly at the shadow lurking in the darkness... 0

"Don't... don't!" A disjointed voice followed closely behind. Xiao Qiang saw that Wen Kai's Steel Bar was mere inches away from piercing Eye Patch Man's chest. 0

The Eye Patch Man was drenched in sweat, his hair sticking to his forehead as he reached out a finger to gently push aside Wen Kai's Steel Bar. His voice trembled as he said, "Is this how you treat your savior?" 0

Wen Kai was taken aback by the Eye Patch Man's words, scratching his head as if trying to recall something that felt both familiar and distant. For a moment, he couldn't piece together the fragmented memories and could only glare silently at him. He thought to himself: if anything goes awry, that Steel Bar in his hand is not just for show. 0

"Eye Patch Man?" Xiao Qiang exclaimed in surprise. Seeing Wen Kai still glaring at him with hostility, he quickly gestured for him to lower the Steel Bar. "What's going on here? You might as well tell us." 0

"Don't worry, I'm not a Mutant. Look at how scared you all are," the Eye Patch Man said, wiping the cold sweat from his brow and casting a wary glance at Wen Kai's Steel Bar. "You little brat, stole my weapon and still want to kill me?" 0

Xiao Qiang looked from Wen Kai to the Eye Patch Man. "Have you two met here before?" 0

Wen Kai gruffly denied it, saying, "No." As he spoke, he kept staring oddly at the Eye Patch Man, as if there was something on his face that caught his attention. 0

The Eye Patch Man sighed and said, "It's a long story; let's talk while we walk. This isn't exactly a place for leisurely strolls..." 0

"That's true," Xiao Qiang agreed. 0

The Eye Patch Man began recounting his tale of narrowly escaping death after falling into a lake... 0
