After talking for a while, Xiao Qiang felt a slight headache and fatigue, but he didn't voice it, merely furrowing his brow. He found it hard to believe Lin Yu's account of not finding him at the Skeleton Mutant's lair, yet discovering him in another section of the ventilation duct in the control room.
"Could it be that I got the direction wrong when entering the duct?"
Lin Yu nodded and looked at Xiao Qiang seriously. "That should be the case."
"How did you know I was there?" Xiao Qiang couldn't understand and didn't want to dwell on it, so he asked directly.
"It was it that helped us find you..."
Xiao Qiang and Lin Yu turned to look at the speaker, who was Matt, entering with a wooden cage about a meter high. The cage was covered with a layer of burlap.
Wu Yi followed closely behind, a mysterious smile on his face, one hand constantly digging at his ear.
"What’s inside the cage?"
"It's the Little Skeleton Mutant that killed Old Eye Mask and hasn't evolved yet," Lin Yu answered quickly.
Xiao Qiang looked confused and asked them, "What do you bring something like this for?"
Wu Yi finally revealed a hidden smile and said, "Come on, you don't want to kill your savior, do you?"
Lin Yu's eyes lit up, and a slight smile appeared on his lips as if he wanted to laugh.
Matt remained unchanged as he slowly lifted the burlap cover under Xiao Qiang's astonished gaze. Inside the cage crouched the Little Skeleton.
It turned its big eyes around in panic, its lips and skin sharing the same color—an unsettling white. Up close, one could see spiderweb-like veins clearly on its skin and face.
Lin Yu continued, "We saw Amy and caught it curled up in a dark corner, making pitiful whimpering sounds. Wu Yi was the first to notice the Little Skeleton; he heard its cries while we couldn't... Then Matt thought of using the Little Skeleton to find you. Because human sense of smell is never as sharp as that of the Bloodthirsty Skeleton family, they can quickly detect the scent of blood from any living or dead human."
"So you're saying I should be grateful to this bloodthirsty monster's offspring?" Xiao Qiang said somewhat irritably.
"Hold on; you can't just throw a tantrum like that; it will affect your recovery. But I can assure you that this Little Skeleton will be domesticated over time and become a cute little creature with some humanity," Matt said seriously yet with a hint of humor, leaving Xiao Qiang speechless.
Lin Yu comforted, "Don't be like this... Just think about it, Xiao Qiang, maybe it will be cuter than Amy in the future." Mentioning Amy made her suddenly excited, and she eagerly turned to the emotionally downcast Xiao Qiang and said, "Guess what? What do you think is stored in Amy's memory bank?"
"..." Xiao Qiang turned his head away, acting indifferent.
Matt gently patted Lin Yu on the shoulder and said, "Let him rest well; we should go outside."
Wu Yi had been carrying the wooden cage for Matt and walked ahead, lifting the tent flap to step outside.
Lin Yu was the last one out. She glanced around to ensure no one was watching and quickly kissed Xiao Qiang on the forehead. "Alright, there's no need to sulk over a Bloodthirsty Skeleton. You've been asleep for two days and two nights; waking up like this isn't good..."
"Two days and two nights?" Xiao Qiang murmured, looking surprised as he turned to Lin Yu, trying to see through her thoughts and wondering if she was just trying to fool him.
Lin Yu was serious and sincere, without a hint of pretense. "Yes, you had a high fever that wouldn't go down. Thankfully, Matt was here." She lowered her voice softly and reached out to touch his forehead. "Now it's better; you don't have any symptoms of a high fever."
"We all have chips in our brains, which are Nano Trackers... If we stay here too long, Professor R will discover us soon. Do you know what happens when we leave Core Headquarters?"
Lin Yu's expression darkened. "I know; we get reprocessed. Our memories are erased and replaced with new thoughts... After waking up not knowing who we are would be very lonely... It's a rather humane punishment. There's also another option: outright elimination..."
"Since you know that, why still..."
Lin Yu's eyes flickered, and the gloom vanished in an instant. She extended her slender finger to the back of Xiao Qiang's ear. "Don't worry! Everything you've thought of, Matt has already considered. There's a micro electromagnetic disruption device attached here; it's almost like skin, so it feels comfortable. But it can't be removed casually; once it's taken off, our whereabouts will be exposed."
Xiao Qiang instinctively raised his hand and questioned, "What is it?"
Lin Yu shrugged. "It's nothing much; just a very thin thing that feels close to the skin." As she spoke, she leaned closer to Xiao Qiang and tilted her ear for him to see. "Look, this is it; do you see it?"
A faint sweet scent of Woman's Fragrance wafted into his nostrils as she slightly lowered her head. Upon closer inspection, he noticed her delicate ear and fair skin contrasted with her glossy black hair. Xiao Qiang couldn't find any flaws. "I don't see anything."
Lin Yu straightened up and smiled brightly. "If you can't see any flaws, then that's good."
"Matt... what kind of person is he? Isn't he Professor R's right-hand man? How could he turn against him to help us?"
When Xiao Qiang mentioned Matt, a radiant smile appeared on Lin Yu's face as she gazed at him with admiration in her eyes. "He's an incredible person who accomplishes great things. You know? In the future, we're going to set up a training program for mutants to gather those who are marginalized and discriminated against together—to learn how to control their Abilities..."
Seeing Lin Yu speaking with such enthusiasm, Xiao Qiang felt an inexplicable sense of unease creeping into her heart.
"What about Li Hang and Wen Kai?"
Noticing Xiao Qiang's troubled expression, Lin Yu couldn't help but smile inwardly. "It's nothing to worry about. In the future, when we become stronger, we can go find them."
"Is it really that simple?" Xiao Qiang thought Lin Yu's perspective was too naive. She shook her head and said, "You should go now! I want to rest for a bit."
Lin Yu pouted. "Alright then! You take a good rest. Matt said he has something to tell you once you're fully recovered."
Xiao Qiang suddenly opened her eyes. "What is it?"
"Look at you, as soon as I mention something important, you perk up... Hmph, just rest! We'll talk later! Bye!"
With that, Lin Yu raised her chin and truly ignored Xiao Qiang, walking straight out. This left Xiao Qiang mumbling in frustration for quite a while. Once everything quieted down, even though she felt a soreness in her eyes and wanted to close them, she couldn't help but take out the Chain she had recovered and examined it closely.
Old Eye Mask's words echoed in her mind: Reincarnation Card Key! Unknown world—rescue—Nano Immortal Robot—who am I supposed to save? This doesn’t look like a key at all. However, one thing made Xiao Qiang feel suspicious—the emergence of the Phantom Reincarnation Tunnel—
