The madman was dawdling, unable to utter a coherent word for what felt like ages. Lin Yu and Wu Yi were growing increasingly anxious. Just half an hour ago, they had been searching everywhere for Xiao Qiang, even peering into the ventilation shafts, but there was no sign of him. 0

As dusk approached, the absence of news about Xiao Qiang weighed heavily on Lin Yu's mind, filling him with a sense of foreboding that something was about to happen. 0

"Uncle, tell me, is there another way out of here?" 0

The madman feigned deafness, acting as if he had never spoken to them earlier that morning. Now, he was pretending to be insane, pointing aimlessly in different directions. 0

Wu Yi was losing patience. Ignoring the dirt covering the madman, he grabbed him forcefully and shouted, "Just speak up already!" 0

The madman spat out a mouthful of saliva, rubbed his eyes which were crusted with sleep, and glanced at the surveillance camera rotating under the eaves. 0

Lin Yu suddenly realized what was happening—he quickly covered his mouth and whispered a few words to Wu Yi. Just as they were about to lead the madman out of the camera's view, footsteps approached from nearby, followed by Matt's cough and what sounded like him talking to someone. 0

"Someone's coming..." Lin Yu immediately tensed up. Xiao Qiang had disappeared while chasing after Matt; he needed to see what was going on. 0

Matt and Hansen walked over, their eyes narrowing dangerously as they shot a glance at the madman—who happened to look back just then. The moment he met their gaze filled with malice, he flinched in fear, trembling all over as he picked up his battered toolbox and hurriedly left. 0

What could possibly make the madman so terrified of Matt? Lin Yu didn't have time to investigate that right now. The priority was to find Xiao Qiang as quickly as possible... 0

"Matt? Where's Xiao Qiang?" Lin Yu and Wu Yi prepared themselves for confrontation, keeping their distance while fixating on him with questioning glares. 0

Matt feigned sorrow as he replied, "Xiao Qiang had a little accident. I came to tell you because I didn't want you to worry." 0

Seeing the insincere grief plastered on Matt's face felt like a facade hiding something sinister beneath. It was clear that there had been a conflict between Xiao Qiang and him earlier; now he suddenly appeared with this news. Did he think everyone was foolish enough to believe him? Lin Yu would never buy his story. 0

Wu Yi, who had just regained his composure, was unaware of these suspicions. Although he had witnessed Xiao Qiang chasing after Matt himself, he believed it stemmed from both of them waking up with signs that someone had tampered with them. This led to Xiao Qiang pursuing Matt in anger. 0

Matt’s special status made it difficult for Wu Yi and Lin Yu to confront him directly. The challenge lay in convincing him in a short time that assisting Professor R with these unnatural projects was akin to aiding a tiger; it defied natural laws and led down an irreversible path. 0

It was somewhat troublesome to discern the truth from Matt's seemingly smiling face. Wu Yi wanted to say a few words to him, but noticed that there was another stranger beside him, someone they both did not recognize. 0

Hansen noticed that the boy named Wu Yi was looking at him, and quickly stepped forward, extending his large hand with a warm smile that showed no hint of flaw. He introduced himself in fluent Chinese, "Hello, my name is Hansen." 0

Hansen! The father of Amy's creation? For some reason, upon hearing Hansen's name, Lin Yu felt an irresistible urge to learn more about him. She instinctively reached out her tiny hand, which was barely larger than a child's, and said, "Hello, I'm Lin Yu." 0

Hansen's palm was thick and large, with calluses on his palms and between his fingers that felt somewhat rough. Looking up at his features, his gaze was piercing and full of energy, especially the eerie aura between his brows that sent shivers down one's spine. 0

As Hansen's large hand enveloped Lin Yu's small one, she suddenly pulled back when she caught sight of the chilling aura between his brows. 0

A look of surprise flashed across Hansen's face as he once again grasped Wu Yi's hand and said, "You are Wu Yi?" 0

Wu Yi nodded but refused to shake hands, looking anxious as he asked, "How is Xiao Qiang doing?" 0

"He’s fine. You two come with us," Hansen replied, his direct gaze seeming sincere without any intent to lie. Wu Yi believed him and turned to consult Lin Yu... 0

"How did the accident happen?" The meticulous Lin Yu still harbored doubts and had not fully trusted either of them. 0

Matt feigned calmness despite his unease and shrugged his shoulders as he said, "He recklessly chased after me; I didn’t mean to hurt him." It seemed like an honest explanation, but to Lin Yu, it was riddled with holes. 0

However, in this situation, they could not afford to turn against each other; Xiao Qiang was in their hands. If they pushed too hard, it could lead to a disastrous outcome for everyone involved. 0

On the surface, the atmosphere here appeared peaceful, yet there was an almost imperceptible sense of strangeness lurking beneath. Lin Yu and Wu Yi walked ahead while Matt and Hansen deliberately slowed their pace behind them. 0

If nothing unexpected occurred, Lin Yu and Wu Yi were bound to fall into a trap. Hansen and Matt were already prepared; they had plans to deal with the two of them— 0

Just then, a scream echoed from the side, sounding like it came from some lunatic. 0

"What is happening?" The first to voice her concern was Lin Yu, who sensed an abnormal presence around her. 0

"Help..." The place where the scream had come from echoed with another cry for help—it was not just the voice of one person, but the wailing and pleading of countless souls. Those who heard it couldn't help but feel a chill run down their spines. 0

It wasn't just Wu Yi and Lin Yu who were unsettled; Hansen and Matt were equally terrified. 0

"Let's go check it out," Hansen said. He had already tucked away the cloth he intended to use to attack Lin Yu into his pocket and rushed toward the source of the sound. 0

Matt felt a sense of dread, but as Lin Yu and Wu Yi ran ahead, he didn't dare lag behind. He hurried after them—when they were about a meter away from the source of the cries, even at close range, they couldn't see clearly. It seemed there were several indistinct shadows moving about, accompanied by sounds that resembled beastly howls coming from those shadows. 0

Lin Yu was the first to realize that these sounds were made by Mutated Skeletons. "Mutated Skeletons?" she shouted, urgently calling for Matt and Hansen to back off. 0

Matt and Hansen had never experienced a battle with Mutated Skeletons before. Coupled with Lin Yu's warning, they dismissed her as being overly dramatic, underestimating her completely. In their eyes, she was just a little girl, and they didn't take her seriously at all. 0

Thus, they ignored Lin Yu's warning and stepped forward to get a closer look at the Mutated Skeletons. 0

The crazed creature seemed badly injured, one eye bleeding profusely. Several Mutated Skeletons surrounding it sniffed greedily as they noticed more humans approaching, their grotesque nostrils flaring as they inhaled the fresh scent of blood flowing from the humans' capillaries. 0
