Most humans share a common flaw: they tend to generalize and think too highly of themselves. In the eyes of Professor R, everything possesses a spirit and can potentially be subdued or transformed by human hands.
Before witnessing the scene of skeletons devouring people that Hansen had mentioned, they were already contemplating the nature of skeletons—after all, a skeleton is merely a human framework. It must be a well-preserved framework to be considered a human skeleton.
Some among them had seen a science fiction movie featuring skeletons, but those did not appear nearly as terrifying as the gruesome sight before them.
The flickering glow of the Glow Stick illuminated the leaping, snarling figures with their greenish-red eyes in the dark, creating an utterly horrifying spectacle that sent chills down their spines.
Professor R, confident in his status as an authority in the field of biochemical engineering and various biological studies, displayed no fear. Ignoring Lin Yu and Wu Yi's warnings, he charged ahead with determination.
At that moment, a shadow darted past, and with a sudden lunge, it knocked Professor R to the ground. Caught off guard, he instinctively raised his hand to shield himself, only to feel a sharp claw dig into his arm. The pain was so intense that he had no time to scream or think; he could only dodge as the Skeleton Mutant loomed over him with its gaping maw full of jagged teeth, nearly ready to bite down.
Seeing this unfold sent panic through the group. Each person grabbed whatever they had at hand and began striking at the creature that had taken down thei Professor R.
Chaos erupted on the scene; Wu Yi could hardly distinguish between who was human and which was a Skeleton Mutant.
The head of the Skeleton Mutant that had tackled Professor R was suddenly knocked off by an unknown assailant.
Yet even with its head severed, the creature's sharp claws remained tightly clamped around him.
In a state of utter panic, Professor R caught a close-up glimpse of the terrifying being attacking him under the wavering light of their Glow Sticks. The clear vascular patterns on its arm were desiccated, resembling an old tree root clinging to its skeletal frame. To his shock, he noticed that these Mutated Skeletons were not entirely composed of bone; they were covered by a layer of glowing skin.
Without weapons and unable to expend too much energy for long periods, Lin Yu and Wu Yi found themselves at a disadvantage. Yet at this critical moment, Professor R had brought so many people along.
In their frantic attempts to assist him, several members of the group fell victim to the Skeleton Mutants—bitten, wounded, or drained of blood as their organs were consumed. The air was thick with the stench of blood and death. As those supporting Professor R helped him up, they exchanged terrified glances, trembling uncontrollably and urging one another to retreat.
"Get out quickly..." Lin Yu couldn't understand why these people seemed not only afraid but also oddly curious about the Skeleton Mutants. If they weren't there, she and Wu Yi could handle these creatures more easily.
"Retreat!" The shaken Professor R stammered as he struggled to steady himself on his trembling legs. With the help of his assistant Matt, he hurriedly backed away.
In order to ensure the safe evacuation of Professor R and the others, Lin Yu and Wu Yi blocked the advancing Skeleton Mutants. After an intense battle, both were drenched in sweat, but as long as there were no further casualties, that was their greatest achievement. Despite being severely exhausted, they managed to support each other through every perilous moment, their teamwork proving invaluable.
Lin Yu found this method of combat repulsive, particularly the close-quarters engagement with these Mutant Creatures. They exuded no warmth; wherever their cold fingers touched, it felt like touching a corpse. This chilling sensation was terrifying—though they had the bodies of the dead, they also possessed a life force akin to that of humans.
Wu Yi, having sustained injuries earlier, was gradually losing strength. Several times he narrowly escaped being bitten on the neck by a Skeleton Mutant, each time saved by Lin Yu's timely intervention.
Fortunately, these Skeleton Mutants had not yet evolved. If they failed to eliminate them quickly and they successfully upgraded, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Wu Yi's tactics against the Skeleton Mutants resembled those of Wen Kai—each strike aimed directly at their hearts. Every time he withdrew his hand from a Skeleton Mutant's chest, his brow furrowed in disgust.
Lin Yu wielded a short dagger, excelling in close combat. However, if this continued… she dared not imagine the outcome and had no time for such thoughts. The acrid stench that assaulted her senses made her feel nauseous as she fought on.
Suddenly, a dazzling light appeared at six o'clock, like a shooting star streaking across the sky. The blue glow brought hope and filled Lin Yu with joy. Without needing to guess, she knew it was Xiao Qiang's signal—he was still alive and well—

Xiao Qiang saw Professor R and the others retreating in disarray from the Werewolves. If it weren't for the special circumstances at that moment, he would have loved to step forward and give that old trickster a piece of his mind.
The solitary body of Xiao Chongjun left everyone stunned… They looked at Xiao Qiang… then at Professor R! The latter feigned calmness and chuckled awkwardly, “You’re awake?”
“How are they doing?” Xiao Qiang couldn't let them know he was physically drained; that would only bring him more trouble. He forced himself to appear energetic and fixed his intense gaze on Professor R and the others, adding, “You brought this upon yourselves.”
Glancing at the bloody corpse on the ground, Professor R silently accepted Xiao Qiang's criticism but deflected with praise: “They fought bravely… indeed, good recruits.” As he spoke, he deliberately avoided meeting Xiao Qiang's piercing gaze and entered the Spaceship House with Matt's assistance.
Xiao Qiang gazed up at the night sky, silently wishing: Lin Yu, you must understand me.
“Is there any way to help them?” Zou Xia asked. While everyone else had retreated inside for safety, she remained behind anxiously glancing back at the dark area. She knew all too well that Xiao Qiang could not engage in battle; he had already suffered too much physical loss…
At that moment, Zou Xia felt like a sinner, more like a child who had made a mistake. She pressed her lips together, not feeling upset by Xiao Qiang's indifferent demeanor.
"We were wrong, but..."
"Aunt Zouxia, I'm not blaming you. Can you do me a favor?"
"Sure, just tell me..."
"Lin Yu and the others are in an unclear situation right now. Can you lure those Skeleton Mutants here?"
"What?" Zou Xia's eyes widened, unable to understand Xiao Qiang's intention. She thought to herself: Is he planning to take revenge on Professor R by deliberately bringing those man-eating skeletons here? "No... no way... I can't do that."
"Aunt Zouxia, listen to me."
"It's not like that. You all... you came from there, so hurry back! I can't help you kill people..."
"It's not about killing." Xiao Qiang sighed, looking up at the night sky that was as dark as a black curtain. Suddenly, he roared in a rough voice, "Do you know what bad things you've done to me? You want to ruin me... prevent me from saving them. Can't you help by luring those monsters here? Only Ultraviolet can kill them."
