The sun was setting, casting a vast shadow over Area A5. The streets were nearly deserted, with hardly any pedestrians in sight, as the scorching sun had baked the ground, still radiating waves of heat.
Xiao Qiang was troubled by the recent events, unable to comprehend what the Abnormal Humanoid had been thinking. Why had it unexpectedly let him go when Little Skeleton intervened? However, he seemed to have no time to analyze what had just happened. Ahead, in a dark corner where sunlight did not reach, a group of people was gathered, shouting about something. From a distance, the loud angry roars were unintelligible, but there was an unmistakable scent of blood wafting through the air.
The advantage of having a night driving system was that it blocked out the sunlight's rays from harming Little Skeleton, who had yet to fully experience exposure to the blazing sun. Inside the vehicle, everything was concealed in darkness. It was impossible to see inside from outside, but looking out from within felt as clear as seeing oneself in a mirror.
As the vehicle slowed down, everything before him came into sharper focus. The previously chaotic scene resembled a suddenly disturbed hornet's nest; someone wielding a machete had cut through the encirclement. Blood and chaos erupted as the sounds of hacking filled the air, leaving Xiao Qiang dumbfounded.
It was as if a fierce demon had appeared out of nowhere. The sharp blade splattered blood everywhere; amidst the flashing knives and swords, time seemed to freeze until it resumed with a terrifying scream that pierced the eardrums.
It was broad daylight! Xiao Qiang felt his blood boiling with an instinctive urge to rush out and join the fray of dancing blades. Just then, an unexpected and bizarre scene unfolded.
The humans trying to break free were surrounded by Abnormal Humanoids with blood-red eyes and glinting sharp teeth. In plain view, they were tearing into those helpless individuals, blood spraying everywhere...
Xiao Qiang slammed on the brakes and opened the car door in slow motion. Yet he felt something pulling at him; turning his head, he saw Little Skeleton reaching out with its slender arm, its pleading gaze looking up at him pitifully.
Standing by the car door, a cold wind carrying a metallic scent rushed past him. Looking closely at the site of the recent massacre, another group of Abnormal Humanoids arrived. They crawled on all fours like dogs, greedily licking up the bloodstains on the ground.
Several human corpses lay sprawled on the ground as Abnormal Humanoids tugged at their bloody remains. One Abnormal Humanoid was tearing at intestines while another approached to fight for them; with a slurping sound, long intestines were pulled from the deceased's body.
Xiao Qiang felt his stomach churn violently; he wanted to vomit! If Little Skeleton hadn't stopped him just now, he might have already engaged in battle with these devilish Abnormal Humanoids. What would have been the outcome? He dared not imagine! His purpose for being here was to locate the lair of the Abnormal Humanoids and report reliable information back to Matt, who was thousands of miles away.
If he had rashly intervened earlier, it would have undoubtedly sparked chaos. After that... there would be no after; outnumbered and overwhelmed, he could very well end up like those before him—food for the Abnormal Humanoids.
A heavy sigh escaped as he hunched back into the car, one foot still on the ground. A blood-soaked Abnormal Humanoid seemed to catch his scent, slowly turning its head to look at him.
At that moment, a dramatic scene unfolded as a group of imposing Patrol Officers approached. Without hesitation, they brandished their batons and began striking at the Abnormal Humanoids that were looting human corpses and blood.
Government officials? Xiao Qiang paused in confusion, wanting to get a clearer view of who these people were. The annoying Little Skeleton beside him was chirping incessantly.
"Shut up." The sharp command not only startled the Little Skeleton but also drew the attention of the Patrol Officers. The Little Skeleton appeared frightened, scuttling into the corner of the car.
To Xiao Qiang, it seemed that the Little Skeleton was afraid of the patrolling humans, as it was a descendant of Bloodthirsty Skeletons. This was his superficial thought, not fully formed; at least a few seconds later, the unfolding reality forced him to reconsider this stubborn misjudgment.
The Patrol Team drove away the looting Abnormal Humanoids, and one of them, possibly in charge, walked straight towards Xiao Qiang, who remained seated in the car and watched them closely.
The man's complexion was pale, with dark shadows around his eyes. As he slightly raised his gaze, Xiao Qiang couldn't help but gasp. Was he also an Abnormal Humanoid? His eyes were blood-red, deeply sunken in their sockets.
Xiao Qiang suddenly understood why the Little Skeleton had been chirping earlier. It was warning him, but his foolishness had blinded him to this fact. It seemed there was no escaping; he would have to confront this situation head-on.
Sitting upright with a serious demeanor, Xiao Qiang forced himself to remain calm. He discreetly activated his weapon while leaning back, his sunglasses concealing his distinctly human eyes.
The man outside politely tapped on the car window, appearing humble as he slightly bent forward, trying to see inside the vehicle.
Xiao Qiang rolled down the window; at that moment, the last rays of sunlight were fading from the sky. The lonely dusk crept in as pedestrians began to appear on the street in small groups.
"Sir, do you need assistance?" The Patrol Leader glanced at the Little Skeleton inside the car and addressed Xiao Qiang with a tone that mirrored that of the checkpoint's Abnormal Humanoid—very humble and respectful.
"Thank you, but I don't need anything for now. I just saw something earlier, you know." As he spoke, he caught sight of the Little Skeleton that had slipped away to hide earlier. He didn't know when it had crawled back to the front, but there it was, casually sitting in the passenger seat and playing with its fingers.
"It is indeed quite violent, but please rest assured, sir, this kind of violence will not occur again. You are taxpayers and also the Supreme Beings; we should eliminate this trash."
Xiao Qiang frowned slightly, forcing a smile as he scrutinized the person behind his sunglasses. The individual was tall and robust, yet unfortunately had become a Puppet of the Abnormal Humanoid.
"Thank you for your hard work, but I have things to attend to and must be on my way."
"Safe travels, sir..." The patrol leader's blood-red eyes flickered with a hint of confusion as he interacted with Xiao Qiang.
As the car slowly pulled away, Xiao Qiang felt a pang of frustration—he realized he had to thank that bastard Matt. It was absurd that he was sent alone to face death in such a dire situation in Area A5.
