Xiao Qiang gasped inwardly, "Heavens!"
The people bound above appeared so helpless and strange. The wheel turned endlessly, and as it rotated, each person's feet rested in a groove at the bottom. Hot blood flowed through these grooves, a deep crimson trickling down into specially designed vessels. These vessels were placed on a tray resembling a balance scale, rising and falling in sync with the rotating wheel. The evenness of the vessel's weight determined whether it was balanced, and then a blood-red inscription of "Human Blood" would automatically appear.
They treated humans as products, exploiting their blood—the essence of life—turning it into a delicacy for their table.
Xiao Qiang's eyes blazed with fury as he pressed against the window, pounding with all his might. The window frame echoed with loud clattering sounds. Suddenly, he heard murmurs behind him and turned in shock to see Little Skeleton had appeared beside him without him noticing. He focused intently, trying to recall the events that had transpired: the prison cell, the electric shock device, the lewd Abnormal Humanoids! They had moved him to another location—what did they want?
Lost in thought, Little Skeleton kept chattering and gesturing at him. Just then, footsteps and voices approached the door. "Shh!" He quickly silenced Little Skeleton's gestures and moved close to the door, his knuckles cracking ominously. If an Abnormal Humanoid poked its head inside, he would swiftly snap its neck.
The moment was tense; time seemed to slow down. His breathing became labored as he felt the veins in his neck throbbing. The more anxious he became, the more agitated Little Skeleton seemed, tugging at his pants. Its pair of rolling eyes blinked rapidly, seemingly trying to convey something.
The footsteps grew closer, and Little Skeleton squeaked insistently. Suddenly, Xiao Qiang realized that Little Skeleton was warning him not to act impulsively. This must be the lair of the Abnormal Humanoids; reflecting on his earlier actions, he recognized they lacked consideration.
Deep breath! He exhaled a breath of pent-up frustration from his chest. Pretending to be asleep again, he lay back on the wooden board, struggling to suppress the hatred brewing within him while closing his eyes in feigned slumber.
The footsteps reached the door and halted; then came the faint sound of a lock sliding open. It fell silent instantly; the Abnormal Humanoid outside did not enter. Inside, Xiao Qiang remained in his pretense of sleep while Little Skeleton continued to play with its fingers.
In this quiet atmosphere, his mind was clear yet he had to maintain an appearance of cowardice—a task that made Xiao Qiang very uncomfortable but necessary. He pondered why the Abnormal Humanoids hadn’t harmed him yet; could it be related to Little Skeleton’s presence? As he mused, he sensed footsteps approaching closer.
Images of the first Abnormal Humanoid he had seen flashed through his mind as Xiao Qiang concentrated—
An Abnormal Humanoid was handing something to Little Skeleton. Xiao Qiang feigned sleepiness and slowly opened his eyes. To his surprise, an Abnormal Humanoid was indeed offering Little Skeleton a can of Human Blood.
Little Skeleton mischievously blinked its eyes once before taking the can and peering inside. It then grinned at those Abnormal Humanoids with a smile more grotesque than a grimace.
"Get up." The Little Skeleton squeaked as it saw the Abnormal Humanoid being aggressive towards Xiao Qiang.
The one who had scolded hurriedly stepped back. Another man, looking quite kind and dressed in a white coat, approached. He seemed to be a doctor. He first extended his neatly trimmed fingers and lightly pressed them against Xiao Qiang's wrist, as if testing his pulse—
"Strange, his blood doesn't belong to a human." A tall and burly Abnormal Humanoid man entered alongside the doctor, puzzled as he spoke to the other Abnormal Humanoids, perhaps questioning the doctor.
The doctor, ignoring the changes in the other's expression due to restraint, carelessly flipped open Xiao Qiang's eyelids—then suddenly exclaimed, "Look."
The other Abnormal Humanoids gathered closer. Indeed, this was clearly one of their kind, with the same blood-red eyes.
To confirm his assessment, the doctor stared intently at Xiao Qiang and said, "Open your mouth."
Xiao Qiang took a deep breath; as soon as he parted his lips, two sharp fangs emerged.
An Abnormal Humanoid member of the Patrol Team who had witnessed him harm other Abnormal Humanoid companions still refused to believe that Xiao Qiang was one of them. It grabbed hold of a very authoritative Abnormal Humanoid leader and chattered away for a long time.
Xiao Qiang couldn't hear clearly; if Wu Yi were here, he would have caught every word.
The Little Skeleton turned its back to the Abnormal Humanoids and quietly gave Xiao Qiang a thumbs-up; a compliment! The latter cursed under his breath: this damn thing has learned a lot from Matt!
It was unclear how the Humanoid Creature Leader communicated with them, but when they turned back around, they seemed surprisingly friendly towards Xiao Qiang.
Being among these beastly Abnormal Humanoids with their sharp teeth made Xiao Qiang feel uneasy. If he disregarded the consequences, he could easily turn this place upside down all by himself and then just walk away. But things often don't go according to time or thought or reasoning. He had to endure and gain the trust of the Abnormal Humanoids first before looking for Wen Kai. He wondered how that guy would be treated.
There were indeed quite a few members of the Humanoid Association, engaging in pleasantries, subtle exchanges, and formal introductions. In no time, Xiao Qiang learned that the small leader was named Yuan Qi, and the doctor was called Lin Fan.
They were going to take him somewhere, but he still didn't know what for. The situation seemed to be getting complicated; it was likely not just about utilizing his Ability. Their ultimate goal appeared to be confirming whether he belonged among them.
Surrounded as he was, Xiao Qiang stepped out of the confinement room, glancing around. Little Skeleton had bloodstains at the corners of its mouth from its earlier feast. Xiao Qiang regretted not having killed this Abnormal Humanoid's relative on the way here. It had just drunk blood; who knew what kind of devil it would evolve into in the future?
As he walked down the corridor, his gaze fell upon those humans bound in the center of a large room. Xiao Qiang's heart ached as if it were bleeding! He genuinely wanted to destroy this place without a second thought, but then he remembered Matt's advice: always prioritize the bigger picture and avoid impulsive mistakes.
Thinking of Wen Kai, Xiao Qiang realized that the test he faced was none other than him—
Wen Kai, battered and bruised, seemed to have shrunk into a corner. His limbs were shackled, leaving him in a semi-conscious state…
The Abnormal Humanoid wanted him to drink Wen Kai's blood? Xiao Qiang was taken aback. He hesitated for a moment, feeling as if his movements had slowed down when suddenly an external force pushed him hard from behind. He stumbled forward and crashed right in front of Wen Kai. The heavy sound of the door slamming shut echoed behind him, and everything fell silent once more!
Inside the room were just the two of them, with a pinhole camera silently recording their every move. Time ticked away; if Xiao Qiang continued to remain in this stalemate, things would turn dire.
He moved his lips, “Are you Wen Kai?” but no sound came out. This was his usual method of silent communication with Wen Kai. If this truly was Wen Kai, then he should remember how they had fought side by side against those Skeleton Mutants in that dark Subterranean Spaceship.
