The beautiful woman said that their small group of humans consisted of over twenty people. They had just settled in Area A5, believing that their long-cherished dream of seeing the sunlight again had finally come true. However, with the invasion of the Abnormal Humanoids and the indifference of the relevant authorities, the remaining human group in Area A5 completely collapsed in that instant... utterly despairing!
Xiao Qiang explained that it wasn't that the authorities had abandoned Area A5; rather, among the Abnormal Humanoids, many were also humans. Ever since the Nuclear War broke out and devastated the land, the human population had drastically decreased. With radiation diminishing and nature recovering, this was the first opportunity for them to re-enter Ground in Area A5. The invasion by the Abnormal Humanoids was not a coincidence but part of a conspiracy whose truth had yet to be uncovered.
Xiao Qiang took out the personal information sheet given to him by Yuan Qi and showed it to Invasive Beauty, who claimed not to recognize the girl. This indicated that besides Invasive Beauty's small group of humans, there was another group of humans hidden somewhere else.
As the two whispered and discussed, they forgot about Little Skeleton standing nearby. Suddenly, the beautiful woman pointed at Little Skeleton and questioned Xiao Qiang, "What is that thing?"
"It's not a thing; it's Little Skeleton, who has been tamed and has a basic understanding of human civilization," Xiao Qiang replied. He was quite pleased with Little Skeleton's earlier behavior; at least after drinking Human Blood, it hadn't undergone further mutation or evolution and hadn't attacked Invasive Beauty.
Little Skeleton seemed to sense that they were talking about it and rolled its eyes around. Suddenly, it grabbed Xiao Qiang's hand, urging him to look at something.
With confusion, Xiao Qiang and Invasive Beauty followed Little Skeleton.
Little Skeleton led them to the bathroom—
Xiao Qiang was puzzled as he lifted the toilet lid—inside was a pool of blood-red liquid. In an instant, he understood one thing: Little Skeleton hadn't swallowed the Human Blood but had held it in its mouth, suppressing the urge to spray it out until they reached the apartment where it could expel everything into the toilet.
Xiao Qiang was thrilled; Little Skeleton had successfully shed its bloodthirsty nature. He hugged it joyfully but suddenly noticed that its eyes had changed from blood-red to a duller shade, deeper in color—almost resembling human pupils.
Little Skeleton squeaked and struggled out of Xiao Qiang's excessive embrace but unexpectedly walked over to Invasive Beauty. It extended its slender arm, wanting her to hold it—
"This?" Invasive Beauty hesitated, reluctant to touch what she perceived as a monster.
"Alright, don't go too far; she's mine..." Xiao Qiang said as he flicked Little Skeleton's pointed forehead with his finger. He then led Invasive Beauty out of the bathroom, leaving Little Skeleton staring blankly at the blood-red toilet.
Xiao Qiang had a question in mind but before he could ask it, she beat him to it: "Do you know me?"
"(⊙o⊙)..."
The beautiful woman continued to be puzzled, "You don't know me, so how do you know my name?" A hint of embarrassment flushed her already stunning face, making her even more enchanting. She slightly curled her lips, but her sharp, cold eyes inadvertently softened the fierce smile. Judging her from a man's perspective, it was clear that a woman's heart is as elusive as a needle in the ocean—her expression changed in an instant, and there was not a trace of warmth left on her face.
"Lin Yu is my lover..." Xiao Qiang thought to himself, feeling overwhelmed. Could this be a trap set by Matt, deliberately creating such a romantic interlude to test his character? He couldn't help but shiver at the thought of the laser tracker that had fallen from the suicide victim.
The girl named Lin Yu stared at Xiao Qiang with wide eyes when he murmured about Lin Yu being his lover. "You, when did we meet?"
Xiao Qiang was confused. "What?"
Lin Yu furrowed her brows in contemplation and then looked at him. "I feel like I know you very well—" Seeing the strange look he gave her, she emphasized, "Don't think I'm an easy woman."
"Don't worry; I didn't think that at all. You're just overthinking."
"Intruder alert! Intruder alert!" The alarm blared again, and Xiao Qiang cursed under his breath: Damn, is this ever going to end? Just as he finished cursing, he suddenly heard a piercing scream that made his heart drop—Little Skeleton's voice. He quickly sprang into action, searching for the source of the sound.
A cold wind rushed in, and the stench made him frown. He hurriedly shouted to Lin Yu, who was still looking around inside the room, "Abnormal Humanoid—" Steadying himself, he barely had time to focus when something lunged at him.
The force of the attack nearly knocked him down—damn! Xiao Qiang swung his fist with all his might; it landed solidly on a cold creature that possessed immense strength.
The creature recoiled from the blow and crashed against the wall with a loud bang. Only then did Xiao Qiang realize that the attacking creature was a mutated Abnormal Humanoid. It resembled a bat but had a human face with deep-set eyes and a pair of rotating eyeballs that exuded an incredibly fierce glare.
Lin Yu rushed out and was pulled behind Xiao Qiang. He whispered urgently, "Don't move; it's a mutated Abnormal Humanoid—"
"No, this is due to long-term deprivation of Human Blood causing bodily mutation..." Lin Yu quietly explained from behind him.
Xiao Qiang was taken aback but didn't have time to say much before the Mutant Humanoid lunged at them again—
"Come on! You filthy bug!" Xiao Qiang swiftly drew his dagger, gritting his teeth in anger. He didn't flinch despite the Mutant's attack... Whoosh! He brandished the dagger at the Mutant, creating a fierce blade shadow infused with lethal intent as he channeled all his strength into his arm. Thud! The dagger plunged deep into the Mutant's chest; with a slight pull, it sliced through its body cleanly in half. Blood splattered everywhere, drenching him in filth.
"Ugh!" "Damn!"
"Are you okay?" Lin Yu glanced at the remains of the Mutant, which had been brutally sliced in half, and exhaled with concern.
Xiao Qiang wiped the blood splatters from his face and forced a smile. "I'm fine, just need to wash up."
In truth, Lin Yu was worried about more than just that; she feared whether the blood of the Abnormal Humanoid would cause him a second contamination.
Xiao Qiang ignored her concerns and directly picked up the Little Skeleton, which had been torn apart by the Abnormal Humanoid. A tiny tear rolled down his cheek. "It's you; it came because of you."
"What?"
Xiao Qiang turned around, his sharp gaze locking onto her. "You compromised my defense system, allowing this Mutant Humanoid to slip in."
Lin Yu fell silent, feeling guilty and at a loss for words. She had thought that a strange creature could not form emotional bonds with anyone. Yet she had just witnessed him crying for it…
Xiao Qiang disposed of the remains of the Abnormal Humanoid and Little Skeleton in the incinerator, closed the iron gate, and carefully checked the defense system once more.
He turned back to see Lin Yu standing there, lost in thought. He walked over to the wine cabinet and picked up a bottle, casually introducing it. "The history of Lafite Fourth Generation Wine states that Lafite Estate was once one of the producers of French Bordeaux wines, renowned worldwide. Unfortunately, it ranks lower among other wines, but in China, Lafite is highly revered." Without caring about her reaction, he poured two glasses—one for her, still pondering his words, and one for himself. He raised his glass and said, "A toast."
