Xiao Qiang was eager to see the sister who could foresee the future, especially since she predicted that she would become a terrifying man. Just how terrifying could this man be? It was truly laughable to think about it.
However, every time she mentioned her sister, Feng would find ways to change the subject. The more he did this, the more it felt like a cat's paw was scratching at his heart, making him want to see her sister even more.
Feng leaned against the car window, under the illusion that the glass was casting a dim light that obscured his view of the outside world. He spat a small amount of saliva and rubbed his palm against the glass. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Wildfire smiling. "What are you laughing at?" he asked.
Wildfire paused for a moment, seemingly at a loss for words. "I wasn't laughing..." Despite clearly having seen him smile, he spoke so nonchalantly. As he replied, there was an almost careless smile at the corner of his lips, imbued with a captivating charm that fascinated her. She found herself enchanted not only by his smile but by every movement and expression he made. Especially those clear eyes that inadvertently revealed a hint of sorrow deeply moved her, leaving her unable to look away.
Xiao Qiang felt the gaze from beside her. "Why are you looking at me?"
Feng felt flustered by the question, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. He tried to appear calm, secretly smiling to himself before hurriedly shifting his gaze away. "You weren't looking at me? How would you know I was looking at you?"
"..." Xiao Qiang had no interest in joking around as the car entered a dark area. She feared those reckless low-level Abnormal Humanoids that might suddenly attack them from the shadows.
The space inside the car was limited, and she couldn't stare directly at him without feeling awkward. Bored, Feng pressed his face against the glass. Although the glass distorted the colors of the sky, she remained focused on it, intently watching as the wheels rolled along and the sky slowly shifted above them. A sigh escaped her lips naturally, drawing Xiao Qiang's attention.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing much. I just miss the sky from before. I really dislike this gloomy urban area in Zone A5." Her current mood was filled with melancholy and a lack of self-regulating energy, akin to not having seen bright sunlight for many days. Suddenly, she began to long for the pure freshness of sunrise and the lonely beauty of sunset... which led her to unconsciously smile wryly.
Xiao Qiang, who had been vigilantly observing their surroundings, failed to notice Feng's emotional shift. As they drove on, their view gradually opened up. The streets were desolate and lifeless. In those doorways and windows where light could not penetrate, something terrifying seemed to lurk in the dark corners, hidden under shadows that flickered with watchful eyes peering at their luxurious vehicle as it cruised alone down the street. Inside that luxury car sat its rare prize: Human Blood itself. They dared not cross any boundaries; if they ventured even slightly into bright light, they would burst into flames in an instant, their frail bodies consumed by fire.
This place resembled a dead city; most Abnormal Humanoids had yet to evolve to withstand light without fear. The car's reflection moved eerily beneath towering buildings; in such silence, even the sound of wheels rolling felt painfully clear to hear. It created a sense of cruel desolation and an unsettling chill that sent shivers down one's spine!
The wind searched quietly for the memories that had once been lost here when a closed door marked with a "Pirate Ship" sign appeared in sight. She suddenly urged Xiao Qiang to stop the car.
He replied, "You can't park here."
Feng was surprised. "Hah, what's wrong with you? No one cares about traffic rules here, right? Why can't we stop?"
"We haven't left the danger zone yet."
"What's there to be afraid of, Grandma's Bear? Let's go in and take a look." Feng rubbed her hands together eagerly.
"Isn't the Karaoke Bar closed? There won't be anyone there anyway," Xiao Qiang tried to reason with her stubbornness as he slowed down the car, hoping to dissuade her from this childish idea of venturing into the Karaoke Bar.
The wheels glided smoothly, coming to a slow stop in front of the Pirate Ship Karaoke Bar. Inside the car, Xiao Qiang noticed a decayed, dark skull hanging above the door. The design and decor of the place indeed resembled that of a pirate ship.
Colorful inks painted fierce and terrifying portraits of the ship's crew on the outer walls, creating an exhilarating visual effect. The inner potential for excitement made even those with a slight musical talent want to burst in and go wild with the popular Rock-A-Hula rock music that combined classic rock and Hawaiian tunes.
"This used to be their platform to showcase their fiery youth," Feng said. "The thunderous music once drew curses from the nearby elderly. They even imposed a curfew: closing at a set time each day, with noise levels that couldn't exceed limits; otherwise, they would have to shut down for good."
Xiao Qiang had been young once too; he understood her feelings at this moment. However, it was indeed not very safe here—perhaps it was his sixth sense! A sense of lurking danger seemed to be stirring, ready to pounce on them at any moment...
"My sister got hurt here... That day, she said she wasn't feeling well and wanted to stay home. But I dragged her out of bed, wanting to take her for some fun. I never expected something terrible would happen." Tears welled up in Feng's eyes as she gently traced her fingers over the three-dimensional images on the wall. Regret filled her voice as she sighed softly.
"I understand. Let's just go!" In the quiet atmosphere, they stood alone in the vast space. The enormous capacity felt like an invisible mouth slowly swallowing two oblivious beings whole.
The atmosphere was charged with emotion as Wind, engulfed in deep self-reproach, stubbornly pushed open the long-sealed door. The hinges creaked ominously, and the door swung open to reveal a dark void, shaking off a cloud of dust that danced in the air, momentarily blinding them.
A barely perceptible cold breeze rushed out as the door opened, causing both of them to shiver involuntarily. Xiao Qiang couldn't understand why Wind insisted on going inside.
Peering through the doorway, the interior remained shrouded in darkness. As they stepped in, Xiao Qiang's keen sense of smell detected an indescribable odor permeating the space. It reminded him of the sour, decayed scent that clung to Skeleton Mutants.
"Danger, retreat!" Before Xiao Qiang could finish his warning, a sharp sound sliced through the air. Wind reacted swiftly, fingers flicking as a dagger was drawn. With a swift motion, he struck down whatever had attacked them. They barely had time to assess the situation when another swift sound rushed toward Xiao Qiang's face.
He sidestepped just in time to avoid a lethal weapon aimed at them from the shadows. The missed projectile turned out to be a bullet; upon hitting the wall, it made a soft thud and created a small crater, releasing a plume of pale smoke.
The acrid smoke spread quickly, and soon they caught a whiff of a corrosive, spicy odor. "Poison gas, cover your mouth!" Wind shouted at Xiao Qiang, who had already dashed into the Karaoke Bar.
