Chapter 97: Werewolf
Matt sensed that something was happening between Lin Yu and Wu Yi. He gazed at her pale face, trembling uncontrollably. Feeling that the situation was serious, he stepped closer and asked in a concerned tone, "Lin Yu, are you okay?"
Lin Yu stared blankly at Matt, but her mind was filled with the image of those sharp, blade-like nails resting on the Mirror. Those were Wu Yi's hands; his nails were as sharp as knives, a full inch long...
Startled by Lin Yu's quiet approach, Wu Yi turned to look at her. Two sharp teeth, glinting like nails, were visible at the corners of his mouth... The sight left a deep impression in her mind, and her heart raced as she wondered how he had changed so much. She quickly backed away in a panic.
Matt's eyes widened in shock. "Are you saying Wu Yi has evolved?"
Lin Yu fought against her fear and nodded vigorously. "Yes, it seems so. He looks like a Werewolf..."
"That can't be! I’ve heard from Professor R that Wu Yi has some beastman genes. Are you saying he’s become a Werewolf? That seems far-fetched."
"...It's not just his body that's changed; his gaze has also become complex and filled with beastly instincts."
"Wait a minute, are you sure you didn't see it wrong? How did I miss this? This is bad..." Matt rubbed his hands anxiously. If Wu Yi really was a Werewolf and started craving blood, it would be uncontrollable.
An evolving Werewolf is vastly different from the traditional concept of one. Traditionally, Werewolves can only be active at night. During the day, they appear in human form, polite and humble to the point of being impeccable; one would never suspect they were a Werewolf based on their demeanor.
However, on a full moon night, the Werewolf's primal instincts take over, losing all rationality and needing blood to survive.
Lin Yu claimed that Wu Yi was an evolving Werewolf, which was an acquired trait. He had developed a strong immunity to daylight; even under the blazing sun, he was unharmed.
Matt felt increasingly uneasy.
Amy rolled her wheels alongside Lin Yu as they walked outside.
Outside, young saplings were thriving. According to estimates, in two or three years, they would grow into a dense canopy. Lin Yu loved these plants; after discussing Wu Yi with Matt, her internal pressure eased considerably.
Seeing the little saplings swaying in the wind was adorable. It instantly chased away the gloom in her heart. She smiled and squatted in front of a small tree, saying to Amy, "Did you know? They have vitality and can understand human language but cannot resist the harm humans do to them."
Amy seemed to listen intently to her words, maintaining a balanced posture that made it hard to tell if she was happy or feeling something else entirely.
"Plants have defensive abilities. When they sense danger approaching, the trunk automatically secretes a kind of liquid..." Sigh! Talking to oneself, what's the difference from being crazy? Lin Yu sighed, his gaze lingering on the leaves. He thought to himself, perhaps if this tree grew another meter, Xiao Qiang would come back.
Amy rolled her wheels and waved her arms, unable to understand what Lin Yu was saying. However, it was clear she loved these little saplings. Her round head swayed as she emitted a series of electromagnetic hums before saying to Lin Yu, "Amy needs love; Amy pursues Lin Yu."
"Whoa! Amy, is that something that bastard Matt programmed into you?" Lin Yu playfully tapped Amy's head and joked, "Unless you turn into that Xiao Qiang kid, I won't marry you."
As he stood up, he inadvertently caught sight of a sleek RSQ model car speeding toward them on the bare road without any shade.
Matt's friend? Lin Yu shaded his eyes with his hand and looked at the car...
Matt had recently been working on a sensor device project. This type of sensing equipment had limitless power. Once put into use, its success rate reached 85%. The device could expand its energy and emit subtle electromagnetic signals, allowing it to detect the locations and information of mutants from all over the country and around the world.
Deeply engrossed in his research project, Matt heard the electronic simulation female voice announce: "Visitor detected!"
This electronic simulation voice notifier was highly sensitive; it could sense incoming biological and human information from fifty meters away from their research lab.
This was the first sensor officially put into use by Matt after the World Rescue Team had left.
The project he was working on remained an unknown secret that couldn't be leaked. Even Lin Yu didn't know what type of project Matt was currently involved in. He hurriedly turned off all light sources, dressed neatly, and walked out.
Lin Yu scanned the newcomers warily... To his surprise, the leader among them was someone he knew all too well—Professor R! Upon closer inspection behind him, weren't Wen Kai and Li Hang there too?
The reason Lin Yu didn't recognize the bald Professor R immediately was that he had recently had hair implanted. At that moment, he wore a pair of wide Frog Glasses that covered half his face. Although he appeared spirited, it couldn't hide the marks left by time.
As he approached Lin Yu, he took off his glasses. Lin Yu glanced at him and was taken aback; Professor R's frightening visage resembled an ancient piece of bark with deep grooves and mottled patches.
"Professor R, hello." Out of politeness, Lin Yu smiled modestly and stepped forward respectfully to greet him.
With sunglasses on, Professor R didn't seem as aged as he truly was; upon removing them and hearing Lin Yu's greeting, he slightly trembled before bursting into laughter. "Oh my, isn't this my daughter Lin Yu?"
Great! Listen to him say that—truly Han Xuan. Lin Yu forced a wry smile and nodded. "Professor, what brings you here today?"
"This is a matter for us adults; children should not meddle," Professor R said with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. A chilling glint flashed in the depths of his gaze as he shrugged his shoulders and walked directly in front of Matt. The two exchanged insincere pleasantries, embraced briefly, and then entered the house.
Following the professor were two others, Wen Kai and Li Hang, who ignored Lin Yu and Amy completely. They strutted past the two of them, standing at the door with their hands behind their backs like bodyguards.
What is going on? Lin Yu wondered as she approached Wen Kai. Look at this guy; does he not recognize me just because he's wearing sunglasses?
"Hey! Wen Kai?"
To her surprise, not only did he ignore her, but he also pulled out a weapon and pointed it threateningly at her, barking, "Get lost."
"You... you don't recognize me anymore?" Lin Yu trembled with anger as she shouted back.
The two remained silent, their fierce gazes fixed on her.
Amy swung her mechanical arm, producing a series of electronic interference sounds, but she too dared not step forward.
How is this possible? Lin Yu stepped back, her mind racing. What is Professor R's true intention? Why are Wen Kai and Li Hang refusing to acknowledge me?
