Xiao Qiang followed the ugly figure in front of him with a mix of skepticism and curiosity as they left the hospital and arrived at a secluded spot. He crouched down, hiding in a dense thicket, yet his gaze remained fixed on the entrance of the hospital. 0

This place was a graveyard, and those buried within were heartless. They lacked humanity, using their professional positions to eliminate countless of their own kind without a second thought. 0

Xiao Qiang refrained from commenting on Mr. Ghost Face's words for the moment. However, it was clear from his tone that he harbored deep hatred for this hospital, which suggested that his disfigurement was somehow linked to it. 0

"Gui Ye..." Gui Ye forced a sinister smile and introduced himself to Xiao Qiang, who was watching him intently. 0

True to his name, he was indeed unsettling. Xiao Qiang stared at him, reluctantly extending his hand. The imposing aura surrounding Gui Ye revealed his extraordinary nature; his handsome face showed no emotion, resembling an unyielding block of ice that had endured for millennia. His gaze sharpened as he pondered, "Wildfire, may I ask what you have in mind? I have other matters to attend to." 0

"If I tell you something, will you agree to join forces with me?" 0

"That depends on what it is." Xiao Qiang had no intention of lingering; he needed to clarify the situation regarding Xiao Wu Yi as soon as possible. 0

"Do you want to know the secret beneath this hospital?" 0

"What secret?" 0

"What happened to the child you brought earlier?" 0

"He's dead." 0

"No," Gui Ye replied with a chilling smile, raising his finger and shaking it side to side. "He didn't die; instead, he was taken somewhere else to become their test subject." 0

Xiao Qiang was taken aback and leaned closer, whispering, "Is that true?" This was precisely what he had been suspicious about. How could someone who had lost an arm possibly be dead? He had sensed something was off earlier, and now hearing Gui Ye's words confirmed his suspicions. "Do you have a way to investigate?" 0

"I need someone to cooperate with me." 0

"No problem, as long as it's not something illegal or immoral." 0

"Okay! It's a deal." Gui Ye readily agreed but then frowned as if recalling something else. "You need to come with me to a certain place first." 0

"What for?" 0

"Kid, you won't regret listening to me." Gui Ye's expression turned mysterious as he lowered his voice. "What’s down there will haunt your nightmares for a lifetime." Upon hearing this, Xiao Qiang felt a chill run down his spine. Could it be that he was referring to the monster mentioned by Xiao Wu Yi? 0

Seeing that he had successfully startled the other party, Gui Ye continued, "We can't just go barehanded against those monsters, can we?" 0

The two of them moved stealthily like shadows through a relatively quiet yet eerie path, leading to a secluded little house far from the hospital. 0

The house was nestled in a small Peach Tree Grove. The bare branches of the peach trees, in the darkness, looked almost like ghostly claws ready to pounce, making Xiao Qiang break into a cold sweat several times. 0

"Don't worry, no one dares to come here. Ever since the war, countless humans have died, and those who remain are too scared to stir up trouble." 0

"I'm curious. If, as you say, the hospital is Kabo Corporation, then why are there no guards outside?" 0

"What time do you think it is? The Nuclear War is over. The ravaged earth is licking its wounds. Do you know how powerful nature's energy is? If the hospital had guards, what do you think would happen?" 0

"It would raise a lot of suspicions." 0

"Exactly. You're here at the wrong time; it's very lively during the day. The people nearby rely solely on this unique hospital for treatment. From what I've observed, many humans who don't want to stay in Stratum are like stowaways, risking exposure to Ground Nuclear Radiation that hasn't fully dissipated, sneaking out of Ground..." Gui Ye paused here, casting a suspicious glance up and down at Xiao Qiang. 0

"Are you suspecting that I'm one of them?" 0

"Not suspecting; I believe you are." Gui Ye smiled oddly and led the way into the little house, muttering words that sounded almost like a curse: "Welcome to the Gathering Place of Ghosts." 0

Xiao Qiang disliked Gui Ye for this very reason; he felt an indescribable eeriness about him. Especially in his mannerisms and speech, everything seemed so ghostly. 0

"Why call it the Gathering Place of Ghosts?" As Xiao Qiang entered, he nearly collided with the doorframe. He quickly ducked and asked this question as soon as he got inside. 0

Gui Ye shot him a glance. "I might as well tell you, but don’t be afraid." 0

"What’s there to be afraid of?" He casually surveyed the surroundings under the glow of his Glow Stick. The green light cast an eerie atmosphere around them. His gaze swept across the empty space inside; apart from some scattered bricks and debris, it was hard to tell that anyone had ever lived there. 0

"This used to be a place for storing dead bodies. During the war—there were dismembered corpses everywhere, some with broken necks and various other gruesome states... They were temporarily piled here for up to half a month." 0

"And then what happened?" 0

"The place was filled with a stench but had no flesh-eating flies because there was slight radiation here—" 0

Xiao Qiang focused intently on Gui Ye. On the surface, this person looked old enough to be his father. He seemed to know everything about the occurrences surrounding the Nuclear War. "Where did the bodies go?" 0

"Kabo Corporation collected them." 0

"What?" Thinking about the already decaying corpses and their level of rot—'ugh'—Xiao Qiang felt a wave of nausea wash over him, wanting to vomit. He turned away, tears welling in his eyes, but still couldn't help but ask curiously, "What are they doing with those bodies?" 0

Gui Ye pulled out what appeared to be a dark object resembling a snuff bottle and brought it to his nose to sniff—huff! He seemed to enjoy it, tilting his head back and squinting his eyes. After a moment, he slowly opened them and said word by word, "For experiments." 0

Xiao Qiang felt deceived. This place was desolate and devoid of life. There wasn't a single hair in the house; how could there possibly be any weapons? Sensing the eerie atmosphere around him, he fixed his gaze on Gui Ye, who was once again squinting in enjoyment of the peaceful ambiance. Step by step, he approached, fingers clenched—thinking to himself: strike first or suffer later! 0

Gui Ye suddenly opened his eyes and stared directly at Xiao Qiang, who was now just inches away. "Do you want to kill me?" 0

"Who exactly are you? How do you know so many secrets?" Xiao Qiang suspected that Gui Ye might be one of Professor R's people due to his cunning, capricious nature, and mysterious demeanor. 0

"Haha, you’re so naive; you still don’t believe me. Let me tell you, I’m the trash and scum of high society, a Living Dead who crawled out from a pile of corpses. Look at how anxious you are! Alright, I’ll take you to get some gear." With that, Gui Ye flipped over and got up, striding over to a pile of rubble. He began rummaging through it, creating a cacophony of sounds! Underneath appeared a square wooden board. 0

The board turned out to be the cover leading to a basement; beneath it were stairs. Following Gui Ye's lead, Xiao Qiang descended step by step. 0
