Gui Ye declared that these two individuals had essentially become Living Dead and needed to be dealt with immediately. In times of chaos, one could encounter all sorts of bizarre occurrences. Death had become a commonplace affair, something they were all too familiar with.
However, these two were not like the usual dead; they were mutated beings that craved human flesh.
The question arose: how should they handle these two howling Living Dead? This truly posed a challenge for them.
Some suggested a clean shot to the head.
Gui Ye pointed out that there might still be soldiers in the hospital who had not yet evacuated, and firing a weapon could attract unwanted attention, which would be detrimental to everyone.
Another suggestion was to sever their heads and bury them in Peach Tree Grove.
Gui Ye sought Xiao Qiang's opinion, and the latter admitted that aside from that option, there seemed to be no other alternatives.
While decapitating them was a viable solution, executing it would present difficulties. After all, they had once been human. One of them had even been a foreign worker; this was an undeniable fact. Who would be willing to carry out such an act?
Xiao Qiang and Wu Yi exchanged glances at the pair of howling creatures, momentarily at a loss for what to do. Meanwhile, Gui Ye couldn't help but smirk quietly…
The scene before them was starkly different from the chaos at the hospital entrance. When Gui Ye and Wu Yi arrived at the hospital's entrance, they were met with a gruesome sight.
The vehicle truly was transporting corpses, as the experiments in the basement had resulted in numerous fatalities.
Most of these individuals had suffered severe brain cell degeneration and physical mutilation. Even if they were artificially revived, they could only move awkwardly and lacked any significant function. Thus, they became classified as waste. The hospital lacked an incinerator and needed to transport them to an ancient Incineration Facility located over a hundred kilometers away for disposal.
Unbeknownst to them, these corpses, heavily sedated with large doses of anesthetics, would awaken midway through their journey. They would rise unsteadily and kill the driver. The driver would then transform into a new Living Dead, instinctively reversing direction and driving back to the hospital.
Inside the hospital, the on-duty guard rushed out without understanding the situation, his mind short-circuiting. He failed to assess carefully and carelessly positioned himself at the vehicle's door, allowing the Living Dead inside to bite him and devour his Brain Essence alive.
What Gui Ye and Wu Yi witnessed was a horrifying scene: countless Living Dead tearing into struggling humans on the ground. The sight was utterly gruesome… The air was thick with the stench of death; some were remnants of Living Dead while others were newly transformed victims just bitten.
In short, witnessing all this made it impossible not to feel fear.
Gui Ye raised his gun and began firing ‘tat tat tat’! He shot at those howling Living Dead craving Brain Essence, riddling their bodies with holes like a honeycomb. Yet they did not fall; instead, they continued to advance toward him and Wu Yi with relentless determination.
Wu Yi was taken aback; this creature seemed somewhat similar to the Skeleton Mutant. The difference was that the Living Dead were not as brutal, agile, or intelligent as the Skeleton Mutant; they merely exhibited abnormal behavior due to a virus parasitizing their bodies.
Gui Ye noticed Wu Yi's eagerness to engage in a barehanded fight and quickly warned him, "Be careful, their blood is infectious." As he spoke, he tossed a gun from his back to Wu Yi. "Catch."
Wu Yi caught the gun Gui Ye threw him and began firing at the approaching Living Dead with a rapid 'rat-a-tat-tat.' Several of the Living Dead that were shot in the forehead struggled for a moment before collapsing to the ground, never to rise again.
A headshot guarantees death! There’s a chance. "Damn it, Gui Ye, aim for the head..." Wu Yi shouted, adrenaline pumping as he played with the gun, shooting with fervor. In no time, the number of Living Dead surrounding them had decreased by more than half.
Gui Ye followed suit, and indeed it proved effective. Just as they were caught up in their intense battle, a group of people burst out from inside, led by security personnel who seemed to be protecting someone as they retreated.
Gui Ye and Wu Yi, fighting off the Living Dead at the entrance, completely ignored them...
Helplessly, Gui Ye and Wu Yi could not break free to question this group about their sins. They could only watch as they got into vehicles and drove away.
Once this group retreated, another wave of Living Dead surged out from the hospital. Gui Ye and Wu Yi had no idea that these were corpses awakened by toxic gas from the morgue.
"Wait, I feel like we might have missed some details?" Xiao Qiang interrupted Gui Ye.
Gui Ye scratched his head. "Details?" He looked thoughtful as he picked up a shovel from the corner. Under Xiao Qiang and the others' watchful eyes, he approached two Living Dead that were still howling.
With all his strength, he raised the shovel high and shouted before bringing it down forcefully! The shovel wasn’t as nimble or sharp as a knife. It sank deeply into the skull of one Living Dead; as Gui Ye lifted the shovel, the Living Dead moved in response to his actions.
Gui Ye's companions laughed and whispered among themselves. Someone mimicked his actions and picked up another shovel to strike at a foreign Living Dead.
Xiao Qiang stared at Gui Ye torturing the Living Dead, his brain racing as he pushed his thinking to its limits. Suddenly slapping his leg, he exclaimed, "I just remembered! Shouldn't we search through the basement one by one?"
Gui Ye seemed disapproving of Xiao Qiang's suggestion; he yanked on the shovel hard. Thud... (⊙o⊙)… Everyone was left speechless in shock as they witnessed Dick Qiang's face being brutally torn apart by the shovel, revealing a blood-red skeletal visage still dripping blood.
The Living Dead convulsed violently before finally dying completely without a sound. Another person torturing a Living Dead hesitated to go as hard as Gui Ye did; they couldn’t handle the erratic thrashing and howling of the Living Dead for long without feeling fear creeping in.
"Go on, Gui Ye; you should deal with this quickly! Is this really fun?" Xiao Qiang said angrily.
Gui Ye shrugged and replied nonchalantly, "What’s there to be afraid of? In this world, it’s either you die or I die." As he spoke, he shot a glance at his subordinate and demonstrated, "Watch me."
Xiao Qiang noticed Gui Ye deliberately avoiding the topic of the basement and subtly hinted for Wu Yi to step aside for a moment.
Outside, a light drizzle began to fall, though no one knew exactly when it started. Gui Ye and the others decided to bury the split-skinned Living Dead right there. His cold eyes occasionally glanced over at Xiao Qiang and Wu Yi.
Xiao Qiang's intentions were clear to Wu Yi; there must be something hidden in the basement. Of course, Xiao Qiang didn't mention that this was something Xiao Wu Yi had brought up. The faceless monster, with an innate weapon concealed somewhere in the basement, was definitely a concern.
Suddenly, someone outside screamed that the rain was acidic. Xiao Qiang and Wu Yi thought it was just another joke from Gui Ye's group and didn't take it seriously.
Gui Ye and his crew came inside, planning to retreat back to the warehouse, and asked Xiao Qiang and Wu Yi if they were going along.
Xiao Qiang hesitated before replying, "I will go, but I need to check on something first." His determined gaze fixed on Gui Ye, his attitude firm with no hint of concession.
Gui Ye understood where Xiao Qiang intended to go; his expression darkened as he took out a cigar and placed it between his lips. Immediately, one of his subordinates stepped forward to light it for him.
He shot a cold glance at Xiao Qiang and said, "Whatever you’re going to do is none of my business."
Xiao Qiang stared at the cigar for a few seconds before slowly shifting his gaze away. With a hint of meaning in his words, he replied, "Don't worry; I won't get into trouble. But you have to take me to see the child later."
