Nalan sniffed like a dog, taking a deep breath before releasing his grip on the trigger. He looked at Xiao Qiang, whose calm demeanor revealed no cracks, and asked, "Did Ding Baoshan tell you his story?"
"Not yet," Xiao Qiang replied. Perhaps it was overthinking, but he didn't reveal the story Ding Baoshan had shared with him. Instead, he casually extended his finger to weigh a miniature infrared night vision scope, placing it in front of his eyes and moving it—looking at Nalan, Chixia, and Redemption of the Fallen. The subtle movements of Redemption of the Fallen were visible through the scope; it was indeed a remarkable tool.
Redemption of the Fallen's movements were actually a sign of its thirst for blood.
"Do you have any blood for sale here?" Xiao Qiang asked, not wanting anyone to know he was feeding these two Fallen Ones.
"I knew your brother wasn't human. However, I actually have what you need," Nalan said, squinting and nodding before walking straight inside.
Nalan retrieved a bottle of blood from an insulated box.
Xiao Qiang reached out, but Nalan pulled back the blood he was about to hand over and teased, "Kid, didn't Ding Baoshan tell you to come prepared?" With that, he suddenly drew his gun, approaching menacingly as if about to fire.
Sweat poured down! What game was Nalan playing? Xiao Qiang thought rapidly in his mind while maintaining an outward appearance of calmness.
With a cold snort, Xiao Qiang deftly pushed aside the gun aimed at his temple. Maintaining his composure, he replied, "Haven't you already made your demands? Do we really need to sign a contract?"
Nalan did not back down; his probing gaze remained fixed on Xiao Qiang without wavering. He continued with a tone of further inquiry, "What’s going on with those two Fallen Ones outside?"
From Nalan's scrutinizing look and probing tone, it was clear he still didn’t trust him. It seemed bringing them along had stirred up some trouble; understanding Nalan's identity and stance would take time.
However, Nalan began to question his own identity. Experience taught him that there were always greater forces at play; this moment perfectly illustrated that saying.
As an old hand in the game, Nalan could hardly miss the youthful yet spirited face before him. There was a hint of indifference mixed with contemplation, alongside an aura forged through countless battles—a fierce presence that echoed Ding Baoshan's words.
There was actually another feeling that Nalan couldn't quite articulate. This sensation emerged when he was alone with Xiao Qiang, a deep chill that penetrated to the bone, as if it came from the depths of hell, pricking at him like needles.
To be able to subdue two Fallen Ones simultaneously indicated extraordinary abilities. He speculated that the other party's true identity must be connected to some mysterious organization.
Xiao Qiang quietly observed him, subtly perceiving that Nalan's mind seemed to be filled with many questions. He couldn't help but chuckle softly; simple thoughts, when subjected to others' speculation and imagination, took on an air of mystery, imbued with implications of conspiracy and intent.
"Let’s put it this way: I’m going to save someone," Xiao Qiang hoped this explanation would ease Nalan's wariness towards him.
"Who are you saving?"
"A girl."
"How did you get here?" Nalan had noticed when he opened the door that the three of them appeared to have come from far away, looking weary.
"Must I answer?" Xiao Qiang replied, exasperated; it was clear Nalan was stalling for time. "We hitched a ride." As he spoke, a strange question arose in his mind: why was Nalan so concerned about how they arrived? Suddenly realizing something, he forced a smile and said, "You know that old car from Dingbao Mountain."
At the mention of Dingbao Mountain, Nalan's tense expression seemed to relax slightly. "Did you leave him behind?"
"He was fixing the car; we came ahead."
"You didn’t encounter anything on the way?"
"What could we encounter?"
"Let him fend for himself!" Nalan refused to answer Xiao Qiang's question. Ultimately, he handed over a vial of blood to Xiao Qiang and then opened the thermos again to take out another vial. "They both need this, right?"
"Thank you." Xiao Qiang said, holding a bottle in each hand as he walked out of the inner room.
Chixia and Redemption of the Fallen remained frozen in place, their eyes lighting up at the sight of the blood he brought out. They eagerly took it from him and began to drink ravenously.
Xiao Qiang watched them with a cold gaze, pondering whether he had truly redeemed them or merely led them to their doom.
"Taking a different path is what makes it interesting," Nalan said, clapping his hands slowly with a sly smile directed at Xiao Qiang. "You want to use their strength to rescue the girl, but you didn't consider that you might be adding to your burdens."
Xiao Qiang nodded heavily, giving a thumbs up. "You're absolutely right."
"Then it's settled. Count me in for the Lair of the Fallen," Nalan finally stated his demand.
"You?" Xiao Qiang was taken aback. These people were truly insane. The Lair of the Fallen was not a place just anyone could enter. He thought about it; this trip would not only involve facing the ruthless Fallen One but also contending with the mutated vampires.
Nalan flexed his muscular arms, resembling garlic cloves, and thumped his chest. "What? Don't believe in my abilities?"
"I do," Xiao Qiang replied with a slight nod, reminding himself to stay calm and not get anxious before acquiring any weapons.
The sounds of Chixia and Redemption of the Fallen drinking were unpleasant, causing Xiao Qiang to frown, yet he felt unable to stop them.
Nalan returned to his previous indifference and suddenly winked at Xiao Qiang. "Follow me."
Xiao Qiang followed Nalan into the inner chamber, watching as he felt along the wall for a moment before it slid open with a creaking sound. It revealed a secret room, and they entered one after the other.
Inside was everything one could imagine: assault rifles, M4 automatic rifles, C-90 90mm Rocket Launchers, armor-piercing rounds, submachine guns... If Gui Ye's place was a small arms depot, then this was undoubtedly a reserve of high-quality weaponry.
Nalan picked up the Rocket Launcher and suddenly proposed an additional condition to Xiao Qiang.
"Trade those two Fallen Ones as a bargaining chip for these weapons."
This condition was too unreasonable, and Xiao Qiang firmly refused.
Nalan sneered, "You wouldn't be interested in that bitch anymore, would you?"
Xiao Qiang's sharp gaze pierced through Nalan like a sword. "She is not a bitch."
The friendly atmosphere shattered once again as both held their ground, igniting a fierce conflict between them. The insult of calling her a bitch led to a physical struggle, with the two of them grappling closely.
Inside, chaos erupted while outside, Chixia and Redeemer remained oblivious. Without Xiao Qiang's orders, they could not approach to investigate. They stood frozen in place, seemingly content to wait.
Suddenly, urgent knocking and shouting came from outside the door. Chixia cast a silent, cold glance at Redemption of the Fallen and stepped forward with her dagger to open the door. Upon seeing a familiar face, the alert Chixia took a step back, clearing the way for entry.
The one knocking was Ding Baoshan, covered in blood with one eye dangling precariously from its socket. As he burst through the door, he shouted, "Nalan, save me!"
