Chixia chased for a while but did not see Serpent Woman; instead, she discovered a sneaky Fallen One stalking Nalan. One was at the top of the well shaft, while the other was on the ground of the Shipyard. Even if she wanted to rescue him, it would be too late.
Nalan held his gun, moving cautiously. He sensed a malicious gaze following him from behind! Suddenly turning around, he saw nothing.
Just scaring himself, he thought, wiping the cold sweat from his brow.
As he fully exposed himself at the top, a cold wind blew, causing him to shiver. In that instant, the young Fallen One leaped out from the shadows—swinging a metal pipe that pierced Nalan's abdomen before he could react.
Looking down at the pipe that had penetrated his belly, blood gushed forth. Trembling, he wanted to... but the young Fallen One had already opened its mouth to bite his neck.
As Nalan felt the bite on his neck, a burst of bullets fired chaotically from his trembling body. At that moment, he resembled prey caught in a predator's jaws, struggling in vain as the Hunter's sharp teeth sank deep into his carotid artery. He could only helplessly feel his blood being slowly drained away.
In Nalan's eyes, despair flashed briefly, mixed with complex thoughts. He seemed to realize he had made a grave mistake—regretting bringing back the corpse from Blood Glacier and selling those bodies infected by an unknown virus to the Guerrilla Military.
At this moment, fear became meaningless; his consciousness drifted away from his body. He could even glimpse from another perspective as the Young Corruptor kissed his neck...
The way a Fallen One feeds is different from that of a vampire; their process is gentlemanly and savoring, slowly tasting the essence within the blood.
It had been said before that Fallen Ones are very picky about blood. If there are deadly pathogens present in it, they would never consume it. Once high-quality blood enters a Fallen One's body, it merges with their previous blood and assists in their evolution.
However, if blood containing deadly factors accidentally enters a Fallen One’s body, it leads to chronic self-destruction. Not only does it fail to help them achieve their evolutionary goals, but harmful bacteria will also consume their original evolutionary elements. This results in stagnation of their evolutionary functions; once that happens, other cellular functions will fall into chaos, leading to an automatic degeneration of bodily elements—ultimately becoming worse than vampires.
Chixia rushed to save Nalan as quickly as possible but found herself too late upon reaching the top deck. The bloody scene before her revealed Nalan powerless and struggling; upon noticing her arrival, the young Fallen One retreated with a snap—Nalan's lifeless body fell to the ground after being drained of blood.
The Young Corruptor did not have time to wipe away the bloodstains at the corners of its mouth. It feared the invisible aura of brutality emanating from Chixia; such an aura typically manifested only in high-ranking Fallen Ones.
The Young Corruptor's face twitched violently, his blood-red eyes flashing with fear as he attempted to flee. The moment he moved, it triggered the brutal rage deep within Chixia.
Initially, she stood quietly to the side, but as soon as the Fallen One made a move, her eyes narrowed. In an instant, her figure shot forward like a bolt of red lightning. It was as if a delicate red maple leaf had been swept up by the wind, fluttering gracefully yet ominously, bringing with it a chilling breeze that filled the air with murderous intent.
The Young Corruptor, terrified, retreated rapidly. However, he was a moment too slow; he felt a blur before his eyes as the red maple leaf vanished. Suddenly, a cold sensation gripped the back of his head—a sharp, claw-like fingernail had pierced through.
"Stop!" A commanding voice rang out, halting Chixia just as she was about to strike.
It was Xiao Qiang, who had just moments ago rushed away with Jianjian in his arms. He had placed Jianjian on the motorcycle and covered her with his jacket. As he turned back to find Chixia and the Serpent Woman, an unusual sensation surged through his body. It felt as if countless mouths were tearing at his cells from within, biting and writhing.
This was a different kind of latent energy he had yet to understand; two opposing forces—one good and one evil—were clashing violently within him. Despite feeling this turmoil inside, he knew he had to quickly regroup with Nalan and Chixia. Time was running out; the sun was already dipping low in the west, casting its last brilliant rays across the sky before darkness would engulf everything.
Struggling up the iron ladder to the rooftop, Xiao Qiang saw the last thing he wanted to see—the mysterious figure who had hollowed out the Fallen One's skull was none other than Chixia.
In an instant, shadows clouded his clear gaze, filled with doubt and dread.
"What are you doing?" Xiao Qiang demanded.
Chixia's plans were disrupted by Xiao Qiang's sudden appearance. A flicker of hesitation crossed her eyes as she subtly withdrew her hand and swiftly changed her stance. Now, she held the Young Corruptor's head back as if she had no intention of killing him.
While Xiao Qiang scrutinized her closely, the Young Corruptor seized the opportunity to stabilize himself by grabbing onto a nearby iron pole. His blood-red gaze swept across the darkening sky before a cruel expression flashed across his face. "It's time; their world is coming."
Chixia offered no further explanation. The inherent brutality within her seemed to dissipate like wind upon seeing Xiao Qiang. Nevertheless, her attention remained fixed on the Young Corruptor, who had now distanced himself from her grasp.
Xiao Qiang dismissed the threats of the Young Corruptor, his gaze shifting to the already deceased Nalan.
The fellow leaned half-heartedly against an iron pillar, the blood hole in his neck no longer oozing any blood, just torn flesh. His facial expression was a grotesque mix of emotions, with wide-open eyes that seemed to be waiting for someone, appearing somewhat hollow and disappointed. His mouth was agape in an O shape, as if he were in shock.
This sight of death made him feel that this guy had something left unsaid...
Xiao Qiang moved his gaze from Chixia to the Young Corruptor; neither was someone to underestimate. One was a lackey of the Rebellious Fallen One, and the other was a consequence of his own excessive mercy.
From her rapid transformation techniques and performance earlier, it was evident that Chixia was evolving beyond limits. Her level was nearing his own, a result of her draining energy from the Rebellious Fallen One by consuming their brain tissue.
A strong stench of decay wafted in from all directions, startling Xiao Qiang. It seemed the vampires had grown impatient, appearing even before nightfall...
Suddenly, a fast-moving object shot toward them. Chixia reacted quickly, unleashing a barrage of gunfire at the bat-like creature with a series of 'tat tat tat' sounds. The object vanished into thin air mid-flight, causing her to temporarily lose her target.
However, Xiao Qiang had clearly seen the bat-like creature; if he wasn't mistaken, it was indeed a vampire.
Vampires were truly repulsive; this was Xiao Qiang's first encounter with such a grotesque monster. They were covered in blood-red skin that glistened with an oily sheen, completely naked, with sharp white teeth and corners of their mouths dripping with viscous fluid. Their limbs had mutated and evolved to resemble those of apes, with claws that seemed designed for leaping and climbing.
