The city lord was nowhere to be found, and time was running out. Xiao Qiang had no choice but to take a gamble. He turned to the man who had handed him the crumpled paper and said, "Hey, you need to hurry and inform the others to hide. Don't run around aimlessly; the best option is to take cover in the basement where it's less likely to be discovered."
"What for?" The man showed a skeptical expression, as if he didn't quite believe Xiao Qiang's words. "You should go save your companions!" With that, he turned and walked away.
Xiao Qiang looked up at the setting sun and called after him, "Hey, you really need to notify them; otherwise, it will be too late to regret it." He couldn't tell if the man heard him, as he hurried away like he was being chased by a ghost, disappearing around a corner.
There weren't many pedestrians on the street. Xiao Qiang approached anyone he saw, urging them to find a place to hide before nightfall, or else disaster would strike. At first, some people stopped to listen. But soon enough, they dismissed him as a madman and ignored him.
Eventually, when people saw him coming, they avoided him like he was a plague. Xiao Qiang felt a deep sense of despair as he looked around, letting out a heavy sigh and shaking his head in resignation.
Was the city lord truly ambushed? Xiao Qiang furrowed his brow in thought. Suddenly recalling what that person had given him, he moved to a secluded spot and cautiously opened his palm to examine it. It turned out to be an ordinary piece of crumpled paper.
Seeing the paper left him puzzled. As he smoothed it out, he noticed something strange: it was completely blank. He shook the paper slightly, and with a gust of wind, a cloud of powder rose into the air. What was this? Just as he was surprised, he caught a whiff of a pungent fragrance that made his head spin; everything around him began to swirl.
Oh no! Xiao Qiang sensed something was wrong. He realized he had fallen into a trap; that guy was clearly in cahoots with those scoundrels... Unfortunately, he understood this too late. Everything went dark before him as he collapsed onto the ground.
Xiao Qiang felt as if he were dreaming. The environment around him was complex and pitch black. A chilling wind blew from all directions, creating an unusually eerie atmosphere that enveloped him in darkness.
Standing on solid ground, he could feel it was damp and uneven, almost like there were puddles of water. The faint light of night reflected off these puddles, shimmering brightly. Thanks to the dim light and his special night vision, he spotted two unmoving figures at the alley's entrance.
The two figures stood back-to-back in the darkness; their penetrating gazes pierced through the night like sharp blades—familiar yet unsettling.
Every cell in Xiao Qiang's body felt hyper-aware and ready for action. He stepped closer; the more he approached, the warmer and more familiar that feeling became, prompting him to picture two very familiar faces in his mind.
Wen Kai! Li Hang? He whispered their names softly. When they didn't respond, an uneasy feeling crept over him, making him want to retreat. However, his legs wouldn't cooperate—no turning back now! A man must not hesitate! Besides, what was there to fear? With this thought in mind, Xiao Qiang pressed forward swiftly toward the two shadows—
Just as he got close enough to reach them, both figures suddenly lifted their heads. Beneath their disheveled hair were faces as pale as zombies that startled Xiao Qiang.
"Li Hang! Wen Kai! What happened to you?" As soon as he spoke, two clawed hands burst forth from their chests.
Vampires!!!
Fury surged within Xiao Qiang as he threw himself forward with all his might—
But the vampires vanished. In his daze, he saw a humanoid figure crouched motionless blocking his path.
The humanoid figure had long hair cascading down, crouched with its arms wrapped around its knees. Xiao Qiang caught a glimpse through the disheveled strands, revealing a pair of hands—fingers unusually long, translucent white with stark black nails, creating a striking contrast. Was she Super Descent? Xiao Qiang cautiously moved closer, sensing a hidden aura of murderous intent in the air.
As he approached Super Descent, the strands covering the Fallen One's face suddenly flew apart, revealing a familiar visage beneath.
Upon seeing that face, an inexplicable pain surged within Xiao Qiang, a chill enveloping him. How could it be her? The trembling doubt made him instinctively take a step back, as the heavy worry that had weighed on his heart finally materialized into reality.
Super Descent abruptly stood up, letting out a sharp scream as her razor-sharp black nails lunged toward him with lethal intent. Around her, a fierce wind whipped up like blades, overwhelming and relentless.
Xiao Qiang's head spun in shock; instinctively, he stepped back and raised his hands to shield his face.
As he protected himself, he took another step back and swiftly drew his dagger—
Just as he had seen moments ago, Super Descent vanished without a trace. Darkness surrounded him; there were no vampires—no Li Hang, no Wen Kai, no Super Descent. It felt as if this world contained only him, empty and desolate, filling his heart with an unbearable loneliness.
While Xiao Qiang struggled between the nightmare and reality, a soft voice pierced through his ears.
“Xiao Qiang.”
“Lin Yu.”
Xiao Qiang opened his eyes in surprise to find Lin Yu right beside him. Her bare shoulders were alluringly exposed as she leaned in for a kiss—
“Aren't you supposed to be at the Cosmic War?”
“Yeah.” Lin Yu seemed off; tears shimmered in her eyes. She hesitated before responding to Xiao Qiang's affection and whispered softly in his ear, “I’m scared; the heavy machinery terrifies me.”
Xiao Qiang gently brushed her delicate nose and kissed her reassuringly. “Don’t be afraid; conquer the Mechanical Tentacles and merge with them. You are strong and will become an incredible Metal Slut.”
“I’ll wait for you—” Lin Yu appeared to drift away from Xiao Qiang, turning back with a smile and blowing him a kiss.
“Wait, don’t go, Yu…” Xiao Qiang shouted—
“Hey buddy, wake up.” He was confused; it had clearly been Lin Yu just moments ago, but now it was a man's voice.
Xiao Qiang's head still felt foggy as he slowly opened his eyes—(⊙o⊙)…! What?! “How could it be you?”
The city lord, with a dirty face, forced a smile and said, "It's not me. Who do you think it is? In this kind of environment, you can't possibly dream of beautiful women, right?"
As his consciousness cleared, this time Xiao Qiang truly woke up from the dream. He looked around the dark space in disbelief; it resembled a dungeon. It was pitch black and filled with a damp smell. "Where is this?"
"A dungeon, I suppose! We're not the only ones here," the city lord raised an eyebrow and shrugged. Under Xiao Qiang's puzzled gaze, he casually joked, "There are cockroaches, rats, and..." He glanced toward a dark corner. "And spider webs."
Xiao Qiang was speechless, remnants of the last dream still lingering in his mind. The images were so vivid, so real that they felt within reach; he could even sense Lin Yu's body temperature. Instinctively, he touched his lips. Suddenly, he felt empty inside. What just happened? Was that the effect of a spiritual connection?
Noticing Xiao Qiang's unusual demeanor, the city lord grew anxious.
"Hey, brother, you’re not going to be dumbfounded, are you?" The city lord was nervous; he sought joy amidst suffering. Being trapped in this unknown dungeon left him with all his hopes pinned on Xiao Qiang.
When he had been thrown in here alone, despair had consumed him. He thought he would die alone in this place, but unexpectedly, someone had thrown Xiao Qiang in shortly after.
Having him as company seemed to balance the city lord's spirits a bit. Always an optimist, he had thought of many ways to wake the unconscious Xiao Qiang. Now seeing him look so lost made him anxious; he feared his hopes might be dashed.
"Brother, talk to me! Don't think about anything else; just clear your head for now—everything else is unimportant."
