Robot Mei was taken away, and the situation remained unresolved. Fang Shanshan prepared to once again negotiate with Kabo Corporation using the voice of the people. She secretly resolved that if one attempt failed, she would try a second time, until Choke compromised and recalled all the robots in use.
However, the difficulty lay in Xiao Qiang's desire to see Robot Mei one more time. When Robot Mei was taken away, he felt a deep gaze from her that seemed to convey many unspoken words.
Due to this incident, Zhong Xuan was dismissed early by his superior. His badge and accompanying firearms were confiscated.
After having close encounters with the abnormal robots alongside Xiao Qiang, Zhong Xuan felt an invisible pressure building within him. A strong sense of insecurity took root deep inside him, and upon returning home, he insisted that his family move away, claiming that the city was in danger.
Zhong Xuan's home also had robotic services. Upon arriving home, he canceled the service order for the robot, leaving the seemingly restless metal figure in a corner of the kitchen.
However, being forced into early retirement seemed to be a blessing for Lao Zhonghuan. He began to interact more frequently with Xiao Qiang and Fang Shanshan, enjoying a newfound freedom.
Robot Mei mentioned that J had developed suicidal thoughts out of fear. Perhaps J sensed that an uncontrollable event would occur one day, which is why he designed a different model from NS-3, one with strong mimicking abilities and closer to human-like characteristics.
J wanted to use the bionic robot to warn someone about the impending horror.
Xiao Qiang's thoughts were stuck at a bottleneck; he couldn't find a way around it for the moment. They went to Kabo Corporation, but Xiao Qiang and Zhong Xuan did not step forward; instead, Fang Shanshan took the lead in communicating with Choke.
In front of a beautiful woman, one must maintain their composure, especially since Choke was among the richest individuals in the world. The robots certainly needed to be dealt with; however, before addressing that issue, it wouldn’t hurt to do him a favor and fulfill their wish for a few more minutes together.
Thus, Xiao Qiang met with Robot Mei once again.
Robot Mei brought up J's various abnormal behaviors during his lifetime. J had privately recorded an oral transcript that Robot Mei had inadvertently overheard.
J said: "There are always some unclear elements within machines; when did perceptual diagrams become the consciousness of robots? Random code segments can combine into unexpected commands. The internal free factors generated by the system within robots store data fragments in their brains' memory. These data fragments can randomly combine and unexpectedly create new rules. Eventually, robots will naturally evolve; one day their mental tendencies will combine and subsequently dismantle the Three Laws set by humanity."
J's words were worth studying and held profound meaning. When the time came, they were forced to part ways with Robot Mei.
The one tasked with executing Robot Mei's destruction was Fei Ren. He arrived at Choke's office and stated, "Robot Mei resists the Three Laws; she can mimic human will and emotional changes..."
Choke swept his gaze coldly and said, "This is the problem. Any non-compliant products must be strictly destroyed."
"Alright," Fei Ren replied as he exited Choke's office. Passing by Xiao Qiang and the others, he shook his head sadly, expressing his helplessness regarding Robot Mei's situation.
Fei Ren entered the control room, and soon after, Newborn NS arrived. Robot Mei was escorted in by the NS-3 robot.
"NS-3, you can leave now," he instructed the escorting robot.
The two NS-3 robots obediently exited and walked into the elevator.
As Robot Mei approached the main control room entrance, Fei Ren said to Rock, "Deactivate the alert system."
Rock responded in clear Mandarin, "Deactivating the alert system."
Fei Ren turned to Robot Mei and said, "Alright, you can come in."
Robot Mei glanced around and stared blankly at several lifeless robots in the corner of the control room that looked just like him. "They are very similar to me," he remarked.
Fei Ren took out a syringe and installed a vial filled with Nanobots. He turned back and said, "Yes, you are very similar."
Robot Mei glanced at Fei Ren again before looking at the reclining mechanical single bed. "Do I sleep here?"
"Yes."
"If something goes wrong with me, you will fix it, right?"
Fei Ren nodded silently. He activated the reclining bed, and Robot Mei slowly lay back down.
The projection monitor of Choke suddenly appeared. He nodded in agreement, quickly glancing at the nearly obsolete Robot Mei before shutting off the observation device.
Robot Mei seemed to sense something and suddenly asked, "Will I feel pain?"
"No, Micro Robot. This is to eliminate artificial neural synapses. You'll be fine soon."
Fei Ren understood clearly: Nanobots were the backup solution for eliminating faults in the artificial brain. After the Nanobot Dissolution Liquid was injected into the Robot Brain, it could effortlessly destroy the artificial electronic main control simulation brain.
Fang Shanshan had finally reached an agreement with Choke regarding compensation for those affected users; he could provide a reasonable amount of financial restitution. At the same time, he would unconditionally replace them with Newborn NS, the third robot model.
On their way back, all three felt particularly heavy-hearted. Robot Mei was likely already reduced to a pile of scrap metal, and Xiao Qiang had sensed this outcome long before.
"How is Han Ming doing now?" Fang Shanshan deliberately avoided any discussion about Robot Mei.
"I don't know; maybe he's already been found," Xiao Qiang replied, puzzled by Zhong Xuan's silence. He turned to look at him and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
"I want to leave this city."
"Where to?"
"To a place without robots."
"That's impossible; there are robots everywhere in the world now. Do you plan to hide underground?" Xiao Qiang joked. However, reflecting on J's words did indeed provoke some thought.
Fang Shanshan made a point to drop Zhong Xuan off at home first. The detour back would require navigating through a long stretch of tunnel before returning to their original route.
Xiao Qiang was particularly sensitive to tunnels. As they drove into one, he pulled out Nair's drawing from his pocket, which he probably hadn't had time to look at yet.
Suddenly, a Giant Sweeping Robot came driving from the opposite direction, its massive broom spinning and scraping against the ground, producing a swishing sound.
As the Robotic Sweeper passed by Fang Shanshan and Xiao Qiang, it abruptly tilted, seemingly trying to tip over and crush their car.
Fang Shanshan was so startled that she didn't know what to do, repeatedly asking, "What’s happening?"
"Damn it, here we go again," Xiao Qiang sensed trouble and quickly shoved his drawings under the seat cushion. He urgently told Fang Shanshan, "Switch places with me."
Xiao Qiang grabbed Fang Shanshan and moved her from his lap. He took control of the car, attempting to escape from beneath the giant broom of the Robotic Sweeper. Just then, the rear compartment lid of the Robotic Sweeper opened automatically, and several Newborn NS robots emerged from underneath. They were Model 3 robots.
Fang Shanshan screamed, "What do they want?"
"They want us to crash," Xiao Qiang replied just as one of the robots leaped forward and smashed a fist through the car window.
Xiao Qiang cursed under his breath, "Son of a bitch..." The spiral blades at the front of the car whirled around, flinging off the robot that had been crouching on the hood and trying to reach for them.
The thrown robot was instantly caught in the massive broom of the rolling Robotic Sweeper, which crunched it into a pile of scrap metal with sparks flying everywhere.
More robots continued to pour out from the compartment lid. Xiao Qiang silently lamented, unsure if they could escape from this sudden onslaught of attacking robots.
