Under the threat of the gun, Han Ming could only obediently answer Zhong Neng's question, "Han Ming." After responding, he noticed the other person's skeptical expression and added unnecessarily, "I wanted to tell you earlier, but you didn't give me the chance."
"Cut the crap. What are you doing here?" Seeing Han Ming behaving properly, he didn't resemble the vicious characters he had encountered before. Although there was disdain in his eyes, the murderous intent had noticeably diminished.
"I came to help a friend find something... Actually... I'm not with the military," Han Ming said, thinking that he was bound to die anyway. If he was going to die, he might as well do it clearly and honestly. He wanted to see what this person intended to do next. Besides, in this unfamiliar environment, it wouldn't be surprising if he ended up dead. In a chaotic world, who would care about anyone else's life or death?
Upon hearing Han Ming's words, Zhong Neng not only did not get angry but instead smiled broadly, revealing a set of white teeth. "I could tell you weren't with the military long ago." He kept the gun pointed at Han Ming but slowly retracted his finger from the trigger. "What are you looking for?"
"Something. You wouldn't understand if I told you," Han Ming frowned and glanced at Nair with concern, deliberately changing the subject. "You might have hurt her." As he spoke, his attention was drawn to a moth fluttering above Zhong Neng's head.
"A moth? How could a worthless thing have any feeling?" Zhong Neng swatted at the moth circling above him with one hand. "You have money; I have everything here."
"Having it doesn't mean it's what I need," Han Ming thought to himself as he sensed that Zhong Neng seemed to have no intention of killing him. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief. The tension from moments ago had left him drenched in cold sweat, making him feel particularly chilly.
Zhong Neng still had some doubts about Han Ming's words. To be safe, he maintained his stance with the gun and reached out as if intending to search him.
Han Ming became alert. "What are you trying to do?"
"Routine check," Zhong Neng said with an air of an old hand in the game, disregarding any objections as he reached out to pat down Han Ming.
Seeing this, Nair stepped forward and addressed Zhong Neng, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Zhong Neng's hand paused for a moment as he shouted dismissively, "Get lost; what do you want?" His hand was already resting on Han Ming's body.
Nair focused intently on his movements and suddenly reached out to grab Zhong Neng—this happened so quickly that neither Han Ming nor the subdued Zhong Neng had time to react.
It seemed that both Han Ming and Zhong Neng had underestimated Nair's patience and intent to mimic.
Just moments ago, Zhong Neng had been flaunting his arrogance like a street thug, but in an instant, he became a prisoner.
Han Ming tied Zhong Neng's hands with a thin rope and then headed to the kitchen in search of food. To be honest, he was so hungry that his stomach felt like it was touching his back, and he didn't even want to talk.
In the outer room were Nair and Zhong Neng.
"Hey, you piece of junk, loosen these ropes for me," Zhong Neng demanded.
Nair mechanically turned his neck to look at Zhong Neng and replied slowly, "Sir, you need to calm down."
"Great." The impressive robot was actually talking back! Zhong Neng felt frustrated as his mind raced to come up with a countermeasure.
Han Ming hurriedly filled his stomach with some simple food and regained some strength. He casually walked out and found Zhong Neng looking dejected, which made him chuckle.
He brought over a stool and sat down facing Zhong Neng. "I'm here to tell you about the purpose of my visit."
Zhong Neng glared resentfully, his face darkened as he stubbornly lifted his chin. His gaze swept aimlessly over the fluorescent light, deliberately ignoring Han Ming.
"I'm here to help a friend who comes from the future. The robot..." Han Ming seemed to hesitate, aware of Nair's strong mimicking ability. Given what had just happened, he knew her cognitive skills were not inferior to those of humans. "Nair, could you step back for a moment?"
Nair remained silent, mechanically twisting its neck as it slowly walked out.
"Newborn NS-3 robot has encountered anomalies, and the old NS-2 robot is also malfunctioning. My friend here is trying to reverse this abnormal situation. He wants to find the cause and evidence of the robot's issues, attempting to persuade Kabo Corporation to recall all robots scattered around the world."
"Hahaha, I love that part! Because I've never had a good opinion of robots; what a joke. You say your friend comes from the future? Are you trying to fool a three-year-old? Or do you think I'm an idiot?"
Han Ming slightly lowered his head, then raised it again, looking earnestly and sincerely at Zhong Neng. "Believe it or not, that's why I'm here." With that, he stood up and went to the kitchen, returning with a kitchen knife in hand.
Zhong Neng twisted his body, eyes filled with fear as he nervously stared at the knife in Han Ming's hand. "What are you planning to do?"
"Don't be afraid; I'm going to cut your ropes."
Zhong Neng was taken aback. "You really want to let me go? Aren't you afraid I'll retaliate?" He put on a fierce expression, licking his lips as he said, "Are you going to stew me and eat me?"
"Haha, sure, go ahead and kill me. Just wait until my future friend comes for you. He's not an ordinary person..."
"What is he?"
"A mutant."
Zhong Neng's eyes lit up with excitement. "A mutant? Interesting." He looked down as Han Ming cut through the ropes and moved his arms. "If you had mentioned your friend was a mutant earlier, I wouldn't have resorted to violence against you."
"What? Do you know much about mutants?"
"I was saved by a mutant." Zhong Neng's expression grew serious. "It's a long story, but let's get down to business!" He looked himself over and casually glanced at Han Ming. "Do you smoke?"
"Yes."
Zhong Neng pulled out a cigarette box from his pocket. "Low quality."
"Having something to smoke is better than nothing."
A puff of light blue smoke slowly escaped his lips, curling above their heads before dissipating. The two men set aside their previous grievances and shifted the conversation back to the matter at hand. Zhong Neng crushed the cigarette butt underfoot and said to Han Ming, "So, how can I help you?"
"I'm looking for a Reincarnation Device..." Han Ming thought for a moment and gestured to Zhong Neng. "It's semi-circular and can be assembled onto a rotating pedestal."
Upon hearing this, Zhong Neng suddenly interjected, "I have a treasure. I don't know if you'll like it."
"What is it?"
Without answering, Zhong Neng turned and led the way. He approached a small door and pushed it open, causing it to creak ominously. Below was a staircase leading into darkness...
Han Ming followed closely behind, feeling uneasy in the dim light. He had to reach out and steady himself against the wall to keep up with Zhong Neng, who flicked on the light switch on the wall of the staircase.
It turned out to be a basement, resembling an exhibition hall. Various items were displayed everywhere, but what caught Han Ming's attention was a semi-circular pedestal placed in the corner.
