The connection between Zhou Yihai and Zhong Xuan originated from a woman. It's a long story that requires revisiting old accounts. In short, for that woman, the former would stop at nothing, while the latter endured again and again.
Zhong Xuan always believed he could touch Zhou Yihai's cold heart with sincerity. Unfortunately, he was naive and ended up reaching out to the wrong person.
One day, while on patrol, he saw a woman crouched under a tree, her face twisted in pain. This woman turned out to be Zhou Yihai's lover...
The woman was in labor and needed to get to the hospital immediately. Zhong Xuan was on duty—what could he do? He called Zhou Yihai, but the latter ignored him. With no other choice, he took the woman to the hospital, but she died during a difficult delivery.
As a result, Zhou Yihai gained a notorious reputation and missed out on the captaincy, which ultimately went to Zhong Xuan.
Thus, hatred was inexplicably formed. Zhou Yihai accused Zhong Xuan of doing it on purpose to secure the captain position. He claimed Zhong Xuan would go to any lengths to maliciously harm lives and that it was a two-for-one scheme to seize what rightfully belonged to him.
After that, no matter how Zhong Xuan explained himself, it would be pointless. Zhou Yihai genuinely hated him and had longed for an opportunity for revenge, which finally arrived—how could he let it slip away?
When Zhong Xuan saw Zhou Yihai, he was naturally overjoyed. He braced himself against the rock wall in preparation, only to see Zhou Yihai approaching with a murderous look.
Did Zhou Yihai have a weapon?
Zhong Xuan had nothing and was physically exhausted; he was no match for him.
Nair sensed something was off when he saw Zhou Yihai aiming his gun at Zhong Xuan. He twisted his neck and calmly said, "Sir, stop! You're threatening someone's life."
"Get lost, you worthless robot," Zhou Yihai sneered, stepping closer to Zhong Xuan with the gun pressed against his temple. In a mocking tone, he said, "Old buddy, keep being arrogant."
"Zhou Yihai, haven't we settled our issues already? Why are you still dragging this out?"
"Pah! You think you deserve anything?" Zhou Yihai looked around; aside from a few robots twisting their necks without any combat capabilities, there was hardly anyone else present. He grew more confident as he declared, "As long as I pull this trigger, you'll meet your end without any conditions."
"What do you want?"
"I want to kill you..." Just as Zhou Yihai's murderous intent surged and he prepared to pull the trigger, Zhong Xuan reacted swiftly. He hurled a heated rock at Zhou Yihai's face and rolled away to dodge the incoming bullet. The bullet veered off course and struck the rock wall where Zhong Xuan had been standing moments before.
Nair and several other robots shouted in unison: "Sir! Stop! You're threatening someone's life!"
Zhou Yihai clutched his face where the rock had struck him and furiously aimed his gun at Zhong Xuan.
In desperation, Zhong Xuan could only roll away to escape.
Due to the injuries sustained by Zhou Yihai's face, the rock not only hurt his nose but also affected the soft tissue around his eyes. The pain intensified and spread.
The robot could not stop Zhou Yihai's malicious actions, nor could it assist the unarmed Zhong Xuan.
Zhong Xuan had to rely on self-rescue. Taking advantage of Zhou Yihai's moment of pain as he covered his nose, Zhong Xuan quickly grabbed a handful of dust from the ground and threw it at him, using the wind to carry it.
The dust got into Zhou Yihai's eyes, causing immense pain, even worse than the injury to his nose. Forgetting about his nose, Zhou Yihai hurriedly rubbed his eyes, both of which were now filled with dust.
Tears could not wash away the dust that had settled in his eye sockets, leaving him no choice but to fire his weapon randomly.
Zhou Yihai shot aimlessly like a blind man.
Zhong Xuan rolled on the ground and stealthily approached Zhou Yihai. He seized the opportunity to snatch away his handgun. With the gun in hand, he felt fearless.
What did losing the gun mean? Zhou Yihai understood better than anyone. The pain in his eyes was excruciating; he knew that he was at a disadvantage. The only way to save himself was to quickly appease Zhong Xuan, hoping for a moment of safety, knowing there would be future opportunities for revenge.
“Zhong Xuan, it's all my fault for being foolish. Please forgive me for offending you; I ask for your understanding.”
Zhong Xuan sighed, “What is there left to argue about? Surviving is what matters most right now. Does your eye hurt?”
Seeing that Zhong Xuan had indeed fallen for his act, Zhou Yihai felt a surge of joy inside but pretended to be in great discomfort as he replied, “Yes, that handful of dust was quite ruthless.”
“Alright, I acted in self-defense. You didn’t dodge either,” Zhong Xuan sighed and shook his head before turning to Nair. “Bring me some water.”
Nair mechanically twisted its neck and brought over a plastic bottle.
Zhong Xuan took the water and habitually tucked the gun into the small of his back. “You blink your eyes; I’ll rinse them out for you.”
“Okay, okay,” Zhou Yihai nodded.
Half a bottle of water was used to rinse Zhou Yihai's eyes clean. Zhong Xuan discarded the plastic bottle and helped Zhou Yihai up. “Are you alright now?”
Zhou Yihai blinked and replied, “Much better.”
“Then let’s get in the car; you can ride with me back home.”
“Sure,” Zhou Yihai agreed as he got into the car with Zhong Xuan's assistance.
Zhong Xuan waved goodbye to Nair, saying, "I'm going home now; my wife is waiting for me. Sorry, I can't go with you to that safe zone."
Just as Zhong Xuan was bidding farewell to the Nair robot, the damn Zhou Yihai suddenly drove away from the spot. The sudden turn of events left him stunned.
Zhong Xuan desperately chased after Zhou Yihai's car, shouting, "Hey, take me home!" Caught off guard while pursuing the vehicle, he never expected Zhou Yihai to make a sharp turn.
Zhou Yihai drove straight towards Zhong Xuan, who stood there dazed and staring. The car came crashing towards him—one meter, two meters, three meters—its wheels kicked up clouds of dust as it barreled forward with murderous intent, ready to crush his enemy.
Zhong Xuan stood frozen in shock, murmuring to himself, "Lao Zhonghuan became captain not just through cunning but through strength. Don't forget I'm a sharpshooter." He raised his hand and fired a shot; the bullet whizzed through the air and aimed straight at the approaching car's windshield.
Zhou Yihai had no time to brake; his eyes barely blinked before the bullet struck him squarely in the forehead. The car jolted violently before veering off course and crashing into a rock wall, crumpling its front end.
Oh no! The car was wrecked. Zhong Xuan's hopes of returning to the city were dashed once again. It seemed that Nair and the others were witnessing a scene of humans turning against each other.
Though they continuously shouted, "Sir, you are threatening a person's life," they belonged to the Old Version Robots. They understood fear and had grown increasingly adept at mimicking human behavior over time.
Robots remained robots; regardless of how well they imitated, they could not feel the sense of loss emanating from Zhong Xuan's heart. The conflict with Zhou Yihai remained unresolved, and he collapsed beside Zhou Yihai's car, tears of remorse filling his eyes.
