In 2050, Wu Yi brought a man back to Matt's Mutant Base School. At the entrance, the children greeted them with cheerful faces, calling out to their Uncle Wu Yi and Uncle Xiao Qiang.
Matt was in his office, and Wu Yi went in, asking Xiao Qiang to wait outside for a few minutes.
"How's it going? Did you make it on time?" Matt asked, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
Wu Yi looked awkward, his tone strained as if he were speaking with a hand around his throat. "Professor, I must admit I didn't show you enough respect before. But after this incident, I have to admire your wisdom and predictive accuracy."
Matt smiled and nodded. "It's normal for you not to respect me; I've always been working for others. In your eyes, I'm just a lackey, right? The predictions were made by my wife Yun; she accurately calculated the timing of Wildfire's emergence thanks to the Nano Tracker monitoring device."
"What about the fake Xiao Qiang outside?"
"Yun will handle it."
"Uh," Wu Yi raised his eyes and quickly scanned Matt before cautiously asking, "Did you prepare more clones that look exactly like us? Ready for emergencies?"
"Not exactly. You see, the World Rescue Team is an International Talent Agency; we can't afford to offend them. If they specifically request someone, what can I do? I can only turn to R; he provided this clone. However, R is indeed skilled—the clone is indistinguishable from the real person, possessing the same abilities and sharp intellect. Otherwise, how could it successfully play the role of a War Correspondent?"
"That's true. How will Yun deal with him?" Wu Yi referred to the clone of Xiao Qiang outside.
"Once the real person appears, the clone cannot continue to exist; otherwise, it could lead to serious trouble. Yun will inject him with a sedative to let him rest."
"Oh, I see." Wu Yi pondered for a moment. "Professor, can I meet Xiao Qiang?"
"Not yet. On the battlefield, Lin Yu along with Wen Kai and Li Hang are all present, plus Wildfire; that's already quite enough. Besides, if you go, you'll need Jin Ming's approval."
"General Jin Ming?"
"Yes, Jin Ming Tie Mian is selfless, and Wildfire must be having a tough time under his hands," Matt said with a playful smile, his gaze shifting away from Wu Yi. "Alright, you go teach the kids now!"
"See you later."
"Go ahead."
Wu Yi walked out of the office, but Clone Shi Qiang was nowhere to be found.
Instead, he saw Yun rushing over.
"Hey," Yun greeted him. "Have you seen Xiao Qiang?"
"Which one are you talking about?"
Yun pulled Wu Yi aside and said, "Of course, I'm talking about Clone Shi Qiang."
Wu Yi paused for a moment. "I thought you had already taken him away. He was just outside when I went into the office."
"Matt called me over, but I didn't see him anywhere!"
"Don't worry, let's look for him."
On the small playground, Clone Shi Qiang was happily playing with the children. He had been waiting outside the office when one of the kids dragged him over to play hide and seek.
With a dark cloth blindfold over his eyes, Clone Shi Qiang could hear the laughter of children all around him. He knew exactly where they were hiding but pretended to be clumsy, lunging this way and that, always missing them by a hair's breadth.
However, some clever children noticed the issue and shouted, "This is so boring! I'm not playing anymore. Uncle Xiao Qiang is deliberately not catching us."
"He has a deep bond with the kids," Wu Yi said, leaning against the corridor, resting his chin on his hand as he gazed at Clone Shi Qiang.
"Yeah."
"Isn't it too cruel to put him into hibernation?"
"You wouldn't really prefer Clone Shi Qiang over the real one, would you?"
"No, we are emotional beings. We might have some inexplicable feelings about these things," Wu Yi explained, gesturing. "The fact that Xiao Qiang can return safely to 2050 is my greatest comfort and something I've been looking forward to for a long time."
"Yeah, actually, I also feel reluctant to put someone into hibernation. You know what I mean."
"I understand. Come on, let's go play with him and make sure he has a good time before he leaves us."
"Don't let the kids know."
"Got it."
"Hey, Xiao Qiang!"
"Wu Yi, want to join us?"
"Sure! I'll be the eagle and catch you all." Wu Yi extended his claws and made a fierce pouncing gesture, letting out a loud "rawr!" that startled the children into exaggerated screams as they scattered in all directions.
“Xiao Qiang, let the kids play. Let's take a walk.”
Clone Shi Qiang lifted the curtain and handed it to a larger child nearby, saying, “Sure, let's go.” He then looked at Yun, who was smiling silently, and asked, “Yun, are you leaving Matt behind to join us?”
“Of course. It’s been a while since we last met; I specifically came to accompany you.”
Clone Shi Qiang gazed at Wu Yi and Yun, his eyes deep as if he were trying to decipher something. Suddenly, as if he understood something, he wore a mysterious expression and said, “No, something must be going on. How could you two just come to walk with me for no reason?”
Wu Yi's eyes flickered in panic as she hurriedly shifted her gaze to watch the children continue their game of hide and seek.
Under Clone Shi Qiang's scrutiny, Yun remained calm and steady. “We do need to walk with you. Who knows when you might receive orders from the military and leave us again? Besides, your vacation isn’t long—only three days.”
“Three days is enough. I’d rather return immediately to continue my unfinished work.” Clone Shi Qiang looked up at the solitary figure soaring high in the sky with longing in his eyes. “I want to see Metal Slut soon.”
“Metal Slut??”
“Metal Slut is her.”
“Lin Yu?”
“Yeah, her heroic demeanor makes my blood boil; she’s the indomitable man Lin Yu.”
“Um, you know that once you step onto the battlefield, there has to be a major cleanup first. Lin Yu is no longer Lin Yu, and you won’t be you either?”
“I know, but there’s an understanding between us that electronic skills cannot erase.”
Yun nodded, unable to help but marvel at R's exquisite cloning technology. The clones he handled possessed their own thoughts, emotions, and various intricate details; in short, they had everything that the original had. The more alike they were, the less they could face each other.
"Xiao Qiang, you need to undergo a standardized physical examination."
"Sure."
"Then follow me." Yun nodded to Wu Yi, who also nodded in response.
"I'll just stay here and watch the kids play while you go," Wu Yi declined to witness Clone Shi Qiang's hibernation process.
In Yun's Medical Room, a portrait hung on the wall. The subject of the portrait was a young scholar, with the signature in the lower right corner: Han Ming.
Clone Shi Qiang gazed at Han Ming's portrait and walked over. "Yun, I once told you this person looks very familiar, but I just can't remember where I've seen him."
"That? He's the world's youngest high-tech invention prodigy, Big Shot. How could you possibly know him?"
Clone Shi Qiang let out a wistful sound of realization.
