“MctcH Mech Suit, combined with new armor technology, gives Metal Slut a chance to make a name for itself.”
Forced back to his original position, Xiao Qiang stood mechanically in front of the general. He had no idea what the other party's words had to do with him. Perhaps it was due to Han Ming's time machine, which had certain drawbacks during its leaps through time. These drawbacks were certainly not as simple as he described; they had a significant impact on the human brain.
It affected memory. Xiao Qiang felt that the name Metal Slut was familiar, yet he just couldn't recall where he had heard it or if he had mentioned it before.
At the entrance stood more than ten armed men, blocking the exit so tightly that not even a breeze could pass through. Even if he could use his Ability to break out, he might end up as a wrecked body, destroyed by the KGC's explosive submachine guns.
Yes, those guys were all holding KGC explosive submachine guns. It seemed they had been plotting this for a long time; otherwise, how could they have appeared right when he tried to leave?
Xiao Qiang had many questions in his mind. This was his first time here and his first encounter with such an arrogant general. Although he had previously felt some admiration for him, that tiny bit of goodwill vanished in the face of the current situation.
“Young man, are you thinking about how to break out? Or are you pondering how to deal with Tomorrow's Battle?”
“Tomorrow's Battle? I haven't prepared anything! Am I just supposed to go like this?” Xiao Qiang exclaimed angrily. “Isn't that just sending me to my death?”
The general ignored his anger and casually walked over to the military map, pointing at it as he spoke. “The plan for Tomorrow's Battle is as follows: the entire world’s Joint Defense Force, gathering our elite troops from MDV Country, will enter the New Far Sea Zone Bohai, passing through Liaoning, Hebei, and Shandong, directly attacking the enemy's stronghold. This will relieve pressure on the western front, allowing KOR Country and USA to drive the enemy out while our forces regroup in the central-southern region and eliminate all ‘Mimicry’ aliens.”
Xiao Qiang listened in confusion, his mind still stuck in the 2040s.
The general paused his gestures, his gaze complex with a hint of barely visible sadness as he fixed his eyes on him and continued, “In Tomorrow's Battle, many of our excellent soldiers will die. After the smoke clears, their bodies will be returned in body bags. Therefore, there must be someone to bear witness—like me—because the families of fallen soldiers will blame my cruelty and lack of humanity. So I hope you can take my place and bear witness to this war, speaking a word of justice for me.”
Xiao Qiang speculated about the general's intentions. His current identity was that of a War Correspondent. The general had just asked for someone to speak fairly about him. Did he want him to promote his merits in realistic reports?
Thinking this way, Xiao Qiang smugly said, “Ahem, I understand now. I can write in my report that you started from scratch but rose rapidly to become an outstanding leader. Everyone loves hearing such topics.” He finished with satisfaction, waiting for the general’s praise.
The general snorted coldly and replied, “You misunderstood my point. I didn’t tell you all this so you could promote me; I want you to emphasize the significance of this war. I want you to understand the meaning of human existence.”
So this guy still wanted to send him to the battlefield? He still didn't even know what era he was in. With a sigh, Xiao Qiang said, “General, you…”
The general’s stern demeanor silenced him immediately. He didn’t dare ask what era it was; after all, if he did ask, would this unfamiliar general think he was insane?
“I am Jin Ming. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them all at once.”
"I want to know where Tomorrow's Battle is?" Xiao Qiang's tongue twisted, turning his question about the era into a query about the battlefield. He silently cursed Han Ming for putting him in this awkward time frame.
"Bohai."
"So, Tomorrow's Battle is on Bohai Beach?"
"Yes, our Alien System has detected a small group of enemies lurking beyond the beach. This small group is struggling for survival, and even so, we cannot let our guard down; they are vicious Giant Creatures. However, the more intense the situation, the more thrilling the battlefield will be. You can boast about your achievements to your descendants later."
"No thanks, I don't need that kind of bragging rights," Xiao Qiang felt this was no joke; something seemed off. Perhaps there was someone out there who resembled him closely, and by some twist of fate, he had been tricked by Han Ming into crossing over to this place, taking the place of that unfortunate fellow. With that thought, he forced a wry smile and said, "Thank you for your confidence in me, General. I'm not afraid of death; I just fear dying for no good reason."
The general's expression changed slightly as a cold glint flashed in his eyes when he glanced at Xiao Qiang.
"Actually, you must have made a mistake; I am not the person you are looking for. Before this... I don't belong to this era; I'm from 2038."
"That's right; we are looking for you," the general showed no interest in Xiao Qiang's words and gestured for him to continue.
"I traveled from the 2050s to 2038 and then mistakenly looped back to 2040." As he spoke, he held up the box to explain to the general: "This box brought me here." He glanced at Han Ming's designated year of 2050. Under the general's gaze, he mustered his courage and asked, "So may I ask what year it is now?"
"You've rambled on for so long; only that last part is useful. Are you asking what year it is now?"
"Thank you, yes."
"Then let me tell you: it is March 14th, 2050. Look at the time..."
Xiao Qiang turned his head just in time to see it was 35 minutes past the hour; his mind momentarily short-circuited before he seemed to grasp something: "You mean it's 2050 during the Cosmic War?"
"Cosmic War has brought forth a Metal Slut who has caught our attention. Right now, we are dealing with the invading bionic Mimicry aliens; they are grotesque mutated creatures invading Earth, with FRA and USA's capital NY having fallen. Currently, we need to form a Joint Defense Force to eliminate these Mimicry creatures one by one across various countries. We are just a detachment of the Joint Defense Force; the main force is still in other countries."
"However, I've never been in the military; aside from killing Zombies and Mutants, I haven't participated in any war against Mimicry creatures."
"Wildfire, are you shirking responsibility?"
"Not at all." Xiao Qiang gritted his teeth, his determined gaze fixed on General Jin Ming. "What do you want me to do?"
"I know you haven't been a soldier, but once you're with hundreds of thousands of troops, you'll learn a lot."
"However, I have one condition."
Seeing Xiao Qiang relent and agree to go to the battlefield, General Jin Ming asked, "What is this condition? Wildfire, you don't have the leverage to negotiate with me." A general's word is as good as gold.
"This condition must be accepted by you; otherwise, I..."
Jin Ming stared at him. "Otherwise what?"
"I won't agree to go." Xiao Qiang stood up angrily, pushed his chair aside, and strode out of the office.
Jin Ming clasped his hands behind his back and followed him silently. Suddenly, he issued an order to the soldiers waiting outside, "Capture him."
Xiao Qiang gritted his teeth in hatred, shoving aside the soldiers who lunged at him. As he ran, the moment he realized he had safely returned to 2050, a wave of surprise washed over him. But soon after came the urgent desire to see her, whom he had missed dearly. He needed to find Matt and ask about Lin Yu's whereabouts. The longing to see her gnawed at him like a worm eating away at his insides, driving him nearly mad with impatience and agitation.
