“Master, do you want to call him over?” The goddess lowered her voice, feeling that the man's earlier rudeness was out of line. But why did she keep giving him chances to get closer? Seeing Jack still staring at that person, she whispered, “He is a mutant.”
“I know. Just now, when you two were together, I accidentally saw the monitor screen showing the magnetic attraction between you.”
“What does that mean?”
“His presence is a good thing; it benefits you.”
“So what?”
“Don’t worry; he will continue to come.” Jack finally withdrew his gaze and patted the goddess on the shoulder as they prepared to leave together.
“Hey, aren’t you curious about my background?” Looking at the silhouette of the goddess from the side, Xiao Qiang felt a vague sense of loss rising within him.
“What does he want?” The goddess didn’t turn back and continued walking forward.
Jack turned his head and shot a cold glance at the smiling Xiao Qiang, saying in a voice too low for outsiders to hear, “He is confessing his feelings for you; it’s just that his approach is all wrong.”
“Boring.” The goddess couldn’t be bothered to look back and walked straight into the room, extinguishing Xiao Qiang’s hopes with one last glance.
Xiao Qiang felt extremely frustrated; this effort had once again failed. Who was the man with her? Seeing their ambiguous interaction, could it be…? With various speculations swirling in his mind, his emotions surged, making it hard to remain calm. The wounds on his body slowly healed without him noticing as he turned away from the training ground. Outside, a light rain had already begun to fall, enveloping him in a misty gloom that tugged at his heartstrings.
Though they were close in distance, it couldn’t compare to the tender feelings experienced in dreams. The drizzle soaked his hair and heart alike while the cold wind relentlessly seeped into his collar. He wandered aimlessly, tightening his collar yet still feeling cold.
The camp appeared hazy and unreal under the rain and mist. A gust of wind carried laughter and chatter. Xiao Qiang steadied himself and searched for the source of the sound, confidently walking toward it.
In Club L K 22, the goddess leaned against the counter, quietly discussing the outcome of Tomorrow's Battle. Mentioning Tomorrow's Battle caused her expression to darken slightly; a hint of coldness flickered in her eyes as she tilted her head back and drained her drink. Shaking her empty glass at K, she said, “It’s your turn.”
Suddenly, a loud crash announced someone bursting through the door, bringing a gust of wind that drew all eyes in the club toward the newcomer.
The goddess cast a cold glance at Visitor but remained silent.
Seeing Wildfire enter, L Captain turned aside and ignored him.
K swept a playful gaze over the newcomer and teased, “Goddess, he’s here to challenge you.” News about rookie Wildfire’s reckless challenge against Vanguard Joint Defense Force’s tough woman Metal Slut spread quickly among everyone in Vanguard Joint Defense Force within minutes.
As soon as he entered, what caught Xiao Qiang's eye was their three familiar yet strange old friends. Knowing they wouldn’t remember who he was after last time’s lesson, he refrained from greeting them this time. Instead, he leaned over the counter and scanned their drinks before calling out to the busy bartender, “Whisky coke.”
L Captain had heard rumors about Wildfire and the goddess, worrying that one drink might lead to reckless behavior and tarnish the collective honor of Second Squad. He subtly hinted to the bartender to serve this new recruit a glass of water instead.
This time, Xiao Qiang had learned his lesson. He took the glass handed to him by the server but didn’t drink from it. Instead, he toyed with it between his fingers, turning his body to fix a fierce gaze on the server.
The server felt uncomfortable under Xiao Qiang's piercing stare and slowly averted his eyes, looking elsewhere.
Under the watchful eyes of the three goddesses, Xiao Qiang took a few steps forward, keeping his gaze locked on the server's back. "Hey, get me a different drink."
Soldiers came to the club to unwind and relieve stress. As L Captain, he had no authority to question or restrict their freedom and benefits.
Thus, under Xiao Qiang's intense scrutiny, the server dared not delay. He reached out to take the glass and replace it.
"Wait a minute. This drink is on me," Xiao Qiang said, not loosening his grip on the glass. Ignoring all distractions around him, he focused intently on the server and said seriously, "Please."
The server knew there was water in the glass. Without hesitation, he nodded and took it, gulping it down.
"How does it taste?" Xiao Qiang asked in a teasing tone, his mocking gaze fixed on the server while addressing the three beside him.
L Captain felt puzzled; it seemed this guy knew there was water in the glass. Otherwise, why would he have passed it to the server?
The server exaggeratedly raised a finger and puffed out his cheeks, trying hard to hold in a mouthful of water. Smacking his lips, he said, "Not bad... ba..." The word 'ba' was still caught in his throat when Xiao Qiang threw a punch, causing the server to spit out the water he had been holding in and cover his face from the blow. "W-Why did you hit me?"
"I'm hitting you because you served me water instead of alcohol. What does that mean? Are you implying something or just messing with me on purpose?"
Confronted so bluntly by Xiao Qiang, the server felt guilty and dared not argue further; he could only swallow his pride.
It was unprecedented for someone to cause trouble in the club. L Captain's face twisted with anger as he shouted, "Wildfire, I still have old scores to settle with you! I order you to return to Campsite immediately!" Xiao Qiang understood what old scores L Captain referred to—it was about him sneaking away during training.
"Okay, I accept my punishment. But before you penalize me, I need to tell you something."
With a smile at the corner of his mouth, Xiao Qiang stepped back a few paces and faced the goddesses along with l and k.
Seeing that he was trying to stir up trouble, L Captain raised his hand and pointed at him urgently, shouting, "I order you to return to Campsite now!"
Xiao Qiang raised his hand, a smile that was neither here nor there on his face as he stared at Captain L. He gently pushed aside the finger pointing at him and said, "Captain, please don't point at me like that." Then he shifted his gaze to Lin Yu, who wore an indifferent expression, and added, "She is my fiancée..."
Beside them, K clenched his fists, wishing he could smash this guy who spoke so recklessly.
The Goddess No. 22 quietly pulled K aside. "K, let's go," she said, avoiding Xiao Qiang's piercing gaze. She linked her arm with K's and brushed past him, only to be grabbed by Xiao Qiang.
The Goddess No. 22 froze. "You..." In front of so many people, she had to maintain her composure. However, Xiao Qiang's words caused an uproar; it had been a long time since the club had seen such excitement, and everyone was eager to see what thrilling scene would unfold.
Xiao Qiang swiftly pulled a chain from around the Goddess's neck with a move that caught everyone off guard. "Look, this is my engagement token."
"You’re being ridiculous," the Goddess said, her face turning crimson. For a moment, she couldn't figure out what was happening. The origin of the chain was indeed suspicious, but how could it possibly be related to this person in front of her?
K's fists were clenched so tightly that they were dripping with sweat. If the Goddess hadn't stopped him, he might have already thrown a punch at Xiao Qiang. Gritting his teeth, he shouted, "Kid, you’re just a brat with no experience! Where do you get off claiming to have a fiancée?" As he cursed and felt the urge to resort to violence, he was dissuaded by L and the Goddess and stormed out of the club in anger.
