The goddess awoke, her eyes filled with sorrow and restrained tears. In a fleeting moment, like a swallow diving recklessly, she plunged into Xiao Qiang's embrace. He held her tightly, enveloping her in warmth and the familiar scent of a long-awaited tender moment.
After leaving Han Ming, Lin Yu informed Xiao Qiang that Jack and Han Ming were a perfect match. One was a Particle Physics Advanced Microbiologist, while the other was a Doctor of Mechanical and Life Sciences. Both were rare talents sought after by the World Rescue Team.
Xiao Qiang felt a strange connection with Jack. Their first meeting had been so easygoing and harmonious.
"He saw your background before I did; no one understands aliens better than him."
"Oh, where are we going now?"
"To find Jack; he must be getting impatient."
"How did you meet Han Ming?" Xiao Qiang asked as she settled into the car, still puzzled about why Han Ming pretended to be insane.
Lin Yu activated the autopilot system, biting her lip as she said, "What would you think if I told you that I came here long ago seeking answers but was obstructed and detained by them?"
Xiao Qiang silently took her hand, gazing at her with deep affection as he nodded, "I understand. You were all alone here, terrified by malicious lies."
Tears welled up in Lin Yu's eyes, spilling over like glistening pearls. Once again, she found herself nestled in Xiao Qiang's arms. Through gentle sobs, she said intermittently, "That woman told me you were dead... killed by aliens... I vowed to take revenge. The first time I saw you, it felt so strange."
"Alright," Xiao Qiang reassured her. "You promised Han Ming not to expose your emotions easily. We must survive; as long as we defeat the Mimetic Alien Monster, we can return home." He awkwardly wiped the tears from Lin Yu's face and joked, "Keep pretending to be cool; I like it when you’re fierce with me."
She chuckled softly. "You're really something else," Lin Yu smiled faintly, quickly gathering her emotions.
"Do you know L and K?"
"L and K?" Lin Yu pondered for a moment. "They wouldn't be Li Hang and Wen Kai, would they?"
"That should be it. I remember what they looked like," Xiao Qiang said with certainty. "Back in District 2050a, I fought alongside Clone Wen Kai..."
Lin Yu felt a surge of tension. "What happened afterward?"
"He died. It was a drug-induced death," Xiao Qiang sighed heavily. "He completely dissolved into a pool of blood plasma."
"(⊙o⊙)…"
"What does Jack mainly do?"
"He is my mentor, primarily assisting me in gathering information about the bionic monsters. However, this is our secret, just like my relationship with Han Ming—no one knows."
"Oh, right. What do you think about Tomorrow's Battle?"
"I believe what you said about Tomorrow's Battle is a conspiracy, but no one will believe you or me. They will either think we are crazy or possibly revoke your qualification to continue on the battlefield."
"Alright then, what do we do next?"
"The Mimetic Bionic Alien has multiple tentacles, which make them very agile. Their body structure is complex, resembling a mass of burning lava. The lava that erupts from within them can incinerate an entire unit of humans."
"Yeah, I've seen it."
The vehicle sped along, and Xiao Qiang spotted Jack waiting at the training ground's back entrance. She had informed him that her place was well-connected.
Every exit here was equipped with a fingerprint verification system; only Jack and her fingerprints could grant access. This was her privilege granted by the Defense Headquarters.
Jack seemed accustomed to Lin Yu's habits and routines. He didn't inquire about their whereabouts but merely nodded slightly at Xiao Qiang before retreating into the dark room.
"Can we start now?" Jack asked, seeking Lin Yu's opinion. Previously, he had been unaware of Xiao Qiang's background and didn't know much about his situation, so Jack's words couldn't convey everything.
Lin Yu maintained an indifferent expression. "We can begin."
Jack seemed to have guessed their secret, a hint of an uncontainable smile on his face as he pressed the button...
With a whoosh, a blue glow suddenly revealed the image of the bionic monster seen in Tomorrow's Battle. He instinctively took a step back, surprised, and exclaimed, "What is this?"
"This isn't the battlefield, and don't be afraid of it. You need to think of it as a creature with a jaw full of sharp teeth," Jack's smile faded, his expression turning serious and focused. "Look, these are the monsters you killed during your numerous deaths."
What does that unconscious killing of monsters have to do with this? Xiao Qiang thought to himself, staring at the simulation of the Mimetic Organism and asked, "Is there a difference between them?"
Lin Yu stepped forward and nodded earnestly. "Yes. Look at their antennae; they can fire flame projectiles. This one, the creature you accidentally killed, is like the human central nervous system and more akin to emitting signals like electromagnetic waves. It is also the backbone of a group organism, easily obtaining human signals from various channels. These creatures come from another planet and belong to an intelligent collective."
"Then what distinguishes these creatures?"
"Let me put it this way," Jack said as he turned off the holographic projector displaying the biological images and activated another set of projection systems. From its original position, a mass resembling seaweed suddenly protruded—a water crystal-like substance. The water crystal had antennae similar to those of the Mimetic Organism, unevenly spaced yet forming an arc-shell shape that emitted dazzling beams of light from its center. He continued explaining to Xiao Qiang, "This is the focal point of the Mimic Alien—the core area."
"I understand now; you want me to find this core area and eliminate it in one fell swoop."
Lin Yu nodded approvingly and smiled modestly. "Yes."
Jack looked at Lin Yu and then at Xiao Qiang. "You two really complement each other well."
"Master, you're mistaken; 'complement each other' isn't quite how you should phrase it," Lin Yu teased with a smile. "You got it wrong before and now again; you deserve a punishment."
Jack grinned widely, scratching his head in a feigned manner. "Chinese characters are profound and rich in meaning; just one word can represent many meanings. My oversight—sorry about that."
"Indeed," Xiao Qiang pointed at the simulated image. "Let's continue."
"Continuing," Jack cleared his throat and gave Xiao Qiang an apologetic smile. "Behind this shell image, there is a big fellow hidden. He is the Ruler of the Mimetic Alien Creature. He can control time. For example, if the central nervous system dies, a new plan will be immediately devised, and he will set the time to reverse, just like how you keep waking up from death."
Xiao Qiang seemed to understand yet not understand; he couldn't grasp how he possessed such strange energy.
"You must be curious or surprised about your own energy," Jack said, showcasing his expertise as a Biologist with his keen observation of Xiao Qiang's psychological state.
Being seen through felt like layers of clothing being stripped away, leaving Xiao Qiang feeling uncomfortable. He sighed helplessly and said, "It's strange; you might want to know other things about me."
"But feel free to speak," Jack occasionally threw in a classic phrase, causing Lin Yu to chuckle quietly beside him.
Xiao Qiang was not swayed by Lin Yu's laughter. He squinted at her, signaling her to be discreet, then turned to Jack, who pretended not to notice anything. "I think what happened this time is related to accidentally falling into a Blood Pool."
