Jin Ming recognized the box; it seemed familiar to him. That's right, he had seen it at the World Invention Expo. Only high-ranking military personnel and commanders were qualified to attend the World Invention Expo, as all the inventions showcased were closely related to military applications. For instance, there were time machines that could be used for espionage or to capture terrorists, and ultimately, some had been used to travel back in time to save animals on the brink of extinction.
There were also the Clone organ inventions and various other high-tech products that were too numerous to count.
He stared at the box, momentarily lost in thought, before agreeing to Xiao Qiang's request to accompany them to retrieve the Quantum System device.
Xiao Qiang handed the box over to Wu Yi, while he and Lin Yu flanked Jin Ming, ensuring his protection as they made their way out the door.
Just as they approached the exit, Jin Ming hesitated. He opened his mouth but hadn’t spoken yet when Xiao Qiang flashed a knowing smile and said, "Don't go. Time is of the essence."
Jin Ming was taken aback. How did this kid know what was on his mind? Reluctantly, he had no choice but to climb into the military jeep that had already been prepared for them, flanked by his protectors.
Wen Kai and Li Hang had been anxiously waiting. When they saw a military jeep approaching, they thought, "Looks like we have a chance."
Sure enough, General Jin Ming stepped out of the vehicle, accompanied by Lin Yu and Xiao Qiang. The last one to emerge was Wu Yi, who was cradling a strange box.
"Wu Yi, when did you become interested in music?" Wen Kai murmured in confusion.
Li Hang spat out his cigarette. "How would I know? Let's go check it out."
With General Jin Ming leading the way, no one dared to obstruct this oddly assembled group. Among them was someone well-known to all Defense Alliance Forces soldiers—Metal Slut, the legendary goddess number 22. Why was she here? The guards watched from a distance with puzzled expressions, giving rise to various speculations.
The safe required fingerprint verification and was opened personally by Jin Ming. He retrieved a tube-like Quantum System Link Device with a top resembling a plug. He stated solemnly, "This is crucial for the safety of humanity worldwide. Jack once mentioned that with this device, all relevant information about Mimetic Organisms will be transmitted into our high-tech monitoring systems."
Xiao Qiang gazed at the device with anticipation and said to the general, "This is my reason; please trust me."
"If I don't trust you, what reasonable explanation could I give for your golden words?" Jin Ming placed the Quantum System Link Device into Xiao Qiang's hands and spoke gravely: "I am entrusting you with the lives of all humanity."
"Thank you," Xiao Qiang replied as he carefully held onto the Quantum System Link Device and stepped back beside Lin Yu.
"What should we do next?"
"I don't know; I've never been through this before. We'll take it one step at a time," he said as he and Lin Yu quickly exited the room while Wu Yi, Wen Kai, and Li Hang waited outside.
Everything seemed to proceed smoothly without any major disturbances. Xiao Qiang's anxious heart finally began to calm down a bit. Even if Jin Ming changed his mind later on, they wouldn't be afraid because Wen Kai and Li Hang were waiting at the entrance.
Whether it was expected or just carelessness, as he and Lin Yu descended the stairs, an alarm blared behind them. Immediately, Wen Kai and his team rushed over in their vehicle to assist them.
Wu Yi remained inside the car without getting out. Seeing Jin Ming hesitate made his blood boil with rage; he kicked open the car door as if ready to charge out after Jin Ming.
At that moment, they couldn't afford any distractions. Wen Kai and Li Hang restrained Wu Yi, who was roaring like a wild beast. Meanwhile, Xiao Qiang and Lin Yu sprinted towards the car at breakneck speed amidst a hail of gunfire from guards.
"Quick! Quick!"
The sharp sound of tires screeching filled the air as Li Hang demonstrated his unparalleled driving skills. He drifted, dodged, and rolled sideways, leaving the pursuing vehicles disoriented.
Xiao Qiang held the Quantum System Link Device tightly, swaying with the movement of the car. He muttered, "Jack said, how do you operate this thing?"
"Insert it into your body part."
The car continued to speed ahead, with more pursuers closing in. It seemed Jin Ming was determined to keep the chase going.
"Insert it into my body part?" Xiao Qiang froze in shock. The thought of inserting this device into his body made him hesitate. Trembling, he moved the Quantum System Device cautiously.
Lin Yu glanced at him, then suddenly pressed down on the top of the Quantum System Link Device and forcefully inserted it into Xiao Qiang's leg. The latter felt a vision wash over him again; everything around him—the scenery and people—became ethereal. His consciousness began to drift away, floating like a wisp of gauze carried far off by the wind.
His awareness crossed mountains and gorges, reflecting in the dark waters below. He saw a bridge, flowing water, and a strangely familiar yet foreign structure—the Water Cube. Above it loomed a massive sports advertisement featuring the five-ring logo. The Bird's Nest! Yes, it was the Bird's Nest! Beyond it, he spotted a pyramid-like building that seemed to be labeled as a museum upon closer inspection. Inside the museum, he encountered images of shells that had once appeared on Jack's sensing monitor.
It felt surreal as he heard Wu Yi and Li Hang talking nearby, along with Lin Yu seemingly asking him questions.
"What do you see? Hurry up and tell us!"
"The Bird's Nest, a bridge, the five-ring logo, a museum... flowing water..."
"What a mess," Li Hang grumbled while still skillfully evading their pursuers.
Wen Kai was burning with anxiety, itching to rush out and confront Jin Ming's sent soldiers.
Wu Yi was panicking too; he clawed at the car door, leaving deep scratches on its surface.
"I found it..." Xiao Qiang came to his senses just as Li Hang suddenly exclaimed.
About fifty meters ahead stood a giant robot blocking the road—a deadly weapon from Jin Ming. He had resorted to using military robots against five War Orphans; it seemed he was serious about eliminating them.
What should they do? Turn back? There were enemies behind them. Charge forward? That Giant Robot had completely blocked their path. Li Hang was at a loss for a moment.
"Open the door; I'll go..." Wu Yi suddenly blurted out.
Wen Kai glanced at the battered car door and resolutely said, "Let him go." At that moment, Wu Yi felt a surge of anger within him; wasn't this robot's obstruction an opportunity for him to unleash that fury?
Xiao Qiang pulled out the Quantum System Device as his wounds slowly healed. Wu Yi got out of the car; he wanted to follow suit.
However, Li Yu stopped him. Wu Yi intended to draw the Robot away so they could slip away from the side and quickly find the route he had just seen to locate and eliminate the core energy source of the Mimetic Organism.
