Indeed, it was a phosphorescent male Mimetic Organism that lunged at Lin Yu in the first moment. She nimbly dodged to the side and rolled away from the fiery projectiles it spewed.
Faced with the ferocious alien creature amidst the desolate ruins, she seemed to hear a sorrowful sigh. After running for a while, she realized that the pit was like the bottom of a circular well, with no way to escape. The sheer cliffs surrounded her, leaving her with no option but to fly.
What Lin Yu had to do was attract the Mimic Monster without leading it toward Xiao Qiang. This was why she had only a small portion of space to maneuver. She attempted to unleash her telekinetic waves, but due to the confined space, she couldn't summon the external force needed to counteract the creature's attacks. Thus, she couldn't be certain of killing this monster that was always poised to pounce.
After a chase, she noticed something: the monster hadn't actively shot fire projectiles at her. Why was that? She stared at its spiny phosphorescent antennae, standing erect like a porcupine, perplexed.
As she sprinted along one side of the cliff, each time she was blocked by the cunning creature and could only retreat. With each back-and-forth encounter, the distance she could run grew narrower.
Xiao Qiang was worried about Lin Yu's safety. He knew that even if he used a tied-up Grenade to kill the head of the Mimic Monster, both he and Lin Yu would still face death. The shockwave from the Grenade's explosion would topple all the structures in this ruin.
They were mere flesh and blood; how could they withstand such devastation? He leaped into the water, relying on his memory to find the flickering Beck light.
Sure enough, in the deep water, a shimmering azure light appeared before him. The light spread out like Beck, but at its base resembled a moving Bud.
The appearance of the Phosphorescent Mimic Monster behind him meant something he didn't want to think about. He swam desperately forward, striving to get closer to Bud. The rolling Mimetic Organism became increasingly aggressive in the water, charging at him fiercely.
Xiao Qiang's target was Bud. In his hand was a string of tied-up GK Super Grenades.
This was what Jack referred to as the colossal head of the Mimetic Organism. Upon closer inspection, Bud indeed resembled a human brain. The moving Bud breathed and spawned, containing numerous transparent eggs that housed monster embryos.
Bud seemed to sense Xiao Qiang's presence and moved more frequently. As it contracted and expanded at its apex, the pursuing Mimic Monster was already closing in. Sensing danger for its leader, it began firing at him.
Xiao Qiang was hit; the Grenade accurately fell into the writhing Bud.
The Mimic Monster let out a furious scream as Xiao Qiang turned back and shot it a cold smile.
Bud consumed the Grenade Xiao Qiang had thrown in while he grappled with the creature in close quarters underwater. This dominant Mimicry behind him indicated one thing: Lin Yu had already suffered its wrath.
As Bud writhed, there was a tremendous explosion. A powerful shockwave reverberated through the ground where Wen Kai and others were hiding from collapsing buildings under the impact of water waves.
"I have an affinity for water," was Xiao Qiang's last fleeting thought as a glimmer faded from his peripheral vision; his body sank deeper and deeper.
He felt a black aquatic organism invading through every pore of his body, gradually consuming him. A vague voice said, "You are mine; I will help you fulfill your wishes. Next, you should repay my kindness."
I died, didn't I? My consciousness is still here. Right, don't forget, I can restart time.
As the black floating creature devoured Xiao Qiang, he suddenly woke up.
Upon waking, he hugged a Time Machine Box while dozing off on a stool. A beautiful female officer resembling a secretary appeared before him. She smiled and said, "Sir, please come in. The General has been waiting for you for quite some time."
Xiao Qiang knew that restarting time had advanced him forward; he was about to see the formidable and imposing General Jin Ming.
Entering the office, General Jin Ming greeted him with a broad smile and waved his hand, saying, "Please have a seat." He then walked to the window, clasped his hands behind his back, and laughed heartily, "That damned Mimic Monster has finally been eliminated!" Suddenly turning to Xiao Qiang, he added, "You should go to the military camp and interview that remarkable heroine, Number 22, Metal Slut."
Xiao Qiang smiled silently.
"Surprised? Humanity is invincible. Those brazen creatures that sought to invade Earth will face devastating blows. Right now, the elite alliance forces of our country and the USA are hunting down the remnants of Mimicry, completely driving them off the planet."
"Indeed surprising," Xiao Qiang nodded in agreement, pretending to take notes with a miniature recorder to remember Jin Ming's words. "I could write a book about this war; it would surely achieve record-breaking sales."
Xiao Qiang spotted Lin Yu; a faint pain surged within him. Victory was victory, but after restarting time, she had once again lost her memories—memories of Li Hang and now of L Captain who was accompanying him on a tour of the military camp.
Xiao Qiang was a War Correspondent, holding a higher position than Li Hang.
"This is Liu Yi, the leader of the N Elite Team, along with his team members," Li Hang introduced seriously before clapping to welcome Wildfire Commander for an on-site interview.
Number 22, Metal Slut, accepted Xiao Qiang's exclusive interview.
He handed her a blue translucent container filled with her memory data.
"What is this?"
"This is a story—a love story between a woman and a man."
"What use does it have? It will bring you endless joy and happiness."
"How do I use it?"
"You silly girl, just implant the chip into your computer."
Xiao Qiang's name was officially recorded in the International Talent Agency's database. He received a new mission: to use a time machine to travel to the Post-Century era and save humanity from extinction.
In that Post-Century, he would face demons that had evolved into powerful werewolves over the years, as well as the vampire descendants known as Flying Bat, who aided in their tyranny.
Before departing, Matt revealed a secret to him: during this mission, he would encounter an unexpected beauty.
Who this beauty was remained a mystery; only Yun and Matt knew.
The werewolves, the vampires Flying Bat, and the beauty all shared a close connection. Xiao Qiang could not resist the call of fate; he had to resolutely go to that century to resolve their enmities and grievances.
As Xiao Qiang cleared all memories of the military camp from his mind under the watchful eyes of Matt and the International Talent Agency, that alluring and eerie ancient voice echoed in his ears once more: "You are mine, you are mine."
