Outside the basement, the ground was littered with corpses, which didn’t seem unusual given the circumstances. However, placing a body in such a confined space was far from ideal. 0

As the climate changed, the bodies would rot and attract flies, emitting a foul stench. They needed to find a way to dispose of the corpses. Some were reluctant to simply throw them away and preferred to bury them respectfully. 0

A battered shortwave radio incessantly played warning reports, urging citizens to take refuge in basements, pits, or cellars. 0

The body lay quietly; it belonged to a soldier. Soldiers are often decisive and resolute, and he was the first to volunteer to bury the old man. 0

There were nine of them in total, four of whom went to bury the old man beneath a cluster of withered flowering trees at the entrance of the building. They were attacked by zombies and had no choice but to abandon the corpse and flee back into the basement, but the zombies followed. They fought for over an hour on the ground. 0

The basement had lighting as well. After a fierce battle with the zombies, they were all injured to varying degrees. Each person felt despondent, exhausted, and increasingly restless. 0

The doctor found a nuclear radiation detector that had some minor issues. After he repaired it, it functioned normally again, emitting a distressing clicking sound as its needle pointed directly to the highest level. 0

While only the doctor understood how serious the situation was, the others believed it was nothing they couldn't handle. As long as government forces arrived, they would be saved. 0

Among the two women, one was pregnant and the other was a nurse. The nurse had been listening to an MP4 player since entering the basement. She admired the doctor and watched his every move intently, offering him her headphones during breaks. 0

Inside the headphones, a voice said: "The river is about to run dry; the world is on the brink of destruction." At noon, the doctor looked out through a window into what should have been daylight but saw only darkness. “This is bad!” he whispered. 0

The athlete was startled. “What’s going on?” 0

“It’s noon, and it’s completely dark outside,” the doctor replied with a complex expression, shrugging helplessly. 0

“That’s impossible! How could this happen?” The athlete didn’t believe it either and moved to look out where the doctor was gazing; indeed, it was pitch black. He froze in shock and suddenly shouted in despair: “No way! I just stepped off the field and now this? Is the world really ending?” He muttered to himself before contradicting his earlier statement: “No, we still have the government. Didn’t the radio say help was on the way?” 0

“The government is gone; they can’t even save themselves. These nuclear bombs have thrown everything into chaos,” said the nurse as she took off her headphones and spoke seriously to the athlete. 0

The knocking on the door startled everyone, leaving them frozen in place, staring at the doctor. 0

The homeowner was the Dead Elder, and the person knocking on the wooden door was calling out his name. The doctor and the athlete stood on either side, while a nurse opened the door. 0

In an instant, the athlete swung a Softball Bat and struck the knocker on the head. The man crumpled to the ground, screaming. The doctor stopped the athlete from delivering a second blow and crouched down to check on the injured man. 0

The injured man was male, an Amateur Painter. He said it was chaotic outside, with killings, riots, and arson everywhere. Terrified, he had sought refuge with an old friend, only to be met with violence here. 0

"You came here without our knowledge. Besides, there are mutated individuals outside due to Nuclear Radiation, so I’m sorry," the doctor said as he helped the painter up and bandaged his arm. 0

"Did you see any government evacuation shelters outside?" 0

The painter shook his head. "It's over for them too. After the explosion, the entire world has turned upside down. Criminals have taken over the government, becoming increasingly rampant—burning, killing, looting. Crime is everywhere; death hangs in the air." 0

Hearing this from the painter shattered everyone's hopes. Their mental state crumbled; some even decided to break through the sealed door with their hammers and confront those mutated lunatics outside. 0

Each of them held a weapon—a hammer—ready at all times. There were many such hammers in a wooden toolbox in the basement. 0

In such dire circumstances, women became as tough as men. They wielded Softball Bats with exceptional skill, striking down any Zombies that attempted to invade the basement. 0

They charged several times but could not break through the encirclement of the rioters and mutants. Eventually, they had no choice but to retreat back into the basement and hold their ground. Their skin began to rot and fester; some started coughing violently and bleeding from their noses. 0

Lin Yu and M displayed shocked expressions as Luo Wei narrated the unfolding events, their faces shifting with each detail. 0

Xiao Qiang silently smoked a cigarette, feeling that Luo Wei's story was grim and had once again darkened the atmosphere that had just begun to feel lively. 0

"I'm afraid we shouldn't listen to the story that follows; the people in the basement are probably all dead." His words were not without reason; in such circumstances, no one could escape the threats of radiation and dust. 0

Luo Wei sighed and said, "Yes, not a single person survived. They all died; three of them couldn't bear to see their own deteriorating condition. Their hair fell out, their skin rotted away, and there was a pregnant woman who was only five months along—she miscarried and bled to death." 0

He continued, "This story is truly grim, but it serves as a reminder for us to cherish life. Nothing is better than being alive." 0

A silence fell over the room as Luo Wei's gaze fixed on Xiao Qiang. "I've finished my story; now it's your turn." 0

"Me?" Xiao Qiang looked at Lin Yu, who encouraged him, "Just tell a recent story; those distant tales are too heavy." 0

"Alright, I'll share the story that took place at the DBL6 research base. Lin Yu was there too; she can verify how much truth and exaggeration there is in my tale." 0

At that time, we were quite arrogant, dismissing those stubborn Skeleton Mutants. When fighting against them, I didn't think much of it, and as a result, I might have been infected by a strain of the Zombie Virus called V2. 0

Xiao Qiang's story was rather simple, but the fact that he was a carrier of the V2 Zombie Virus surprised both Luo Wei and M. They exchanged glances, and Luo Wei opened his mouth as if about to say something. 0

Suddenly, the defense alarm in the room blared. Lin Yu knew that unidentified individuals outside had triggered the alarm. The atmosphere inside became tense; they all understood that aside from M and Luo Wei, no one else had come here. Who could be outside? 0
