Xiao Qiang infiltrated the Dragon Gate Mountain Forbidden Area. With the passing of the Saint Mother, Amayi and Jill had to return to Waji Mountain. The ancient Waji Mountain held an unwritten legend: the flesh and bones of a departed sage would be used to usher in the birth of a new generation of sages.
On this night, the Waji Mountain People summoned all their kin to the site, where they would disassemble and consume the body of the Wise Saintess. From this act, a new sage would emerge. Long ago, during a sweltering summer, a sage had unfortunately passed away, leading to the body decomposing and attracting maggots. The Waji Mountain People gathered around the sage's remains, weeping, "In such hot weather, how can we possibly finish this?"
Over time, this mourning ritual evolved into a traditional way of honoring the deceased. However, the practice of sharing the sage's body in hopes of gaining extraordinary wisdom had been abolished by Amayi's father’s generation. Little did they expect that the Saint Mother would reinstate this custom.
Amayi believed that Jill was destined to be the new sage; rules were made by people and could be changed by them as well. That night, while the tribespeople lit bonfires, they did not divide the Saint Mother's body but instead held a grand farewell ceremony. All members of the Sun Tribe gathered at the site, dancing and crying around the body of the Saint Mother, recounting her spirit of contribution.
The mournful wails continued late into the night.
Meanwhile, in the Sun Tribe Forbidden Area at Dragon Gate Mountain, another event was unfolding. Stay calm! Xiao Qiang told himself. He recalled the earlier scene; that set of coded data from a future world was a form of information transmission? Had they deliberately left it behind to hint that Lin Yu was in their grasp? Then...
Who were they? Lin Yu possessed abilities after all; although she had become somewhat delicate since her pregnancy, she would surely unleash her inner strength when faced with danger. Noticing no signs of struggle here, could it mean she left willingly? No! What was that damp tissue doing here?
His foot crunched on fragments of bone, producing a faint yet crisp sound. Xiao Qiang felt he was nearing something—an indistinct presence that felt cold and unhuman. At the same time, he sensed he was being watched; it was an intense feeling emanating from deeper within the cave. Instinctively, he felt that if he raised his head or moved closer, he would meet eyes with whoever was observing him.
In that moment, Xiao Qiang seemed to hear screams echoing from hell itself—screams filled with resentment, curses, and cold laughter. The voices came from all directions—not just from deep within the cave but also from its entrance as if someone truly was speaking.
He barely had time to evade as several Sons of the Sun burst into the cave with colorful feathers sticking out from their heads. They were sent by the sage’s urging to check on the status of those who had undergone exorcism.
Xiao Qiang remained hidden in the shadows while they were out in plain sight; thus they did not notice anyone else inside. However, upon entering the cave, they realized that the woman they had brought earlier was missing.
A flurry of panicked cries erupted. With no sign of life or death present, they faced a difficult situation explaining their failure. The woman belonged to a saint; if anything went wrong, Vapsin would surely snap their necks.
Xiao Qiang couldn't understand their language but observed their actions as if they intended to search further inside. The Sun Tribe approached openly while he stealthily aimed to protect Lin Yu.
As he entered the cave and saw the set of coded data that belonged to the future world, he understood about seventy to eighty percent of what was happening. Lin Yu had been taken away by someone from the future, just like the first time he was taken, but this situation was different. He had fallen into an artificially created vortex, where two latent energies within him clashed, causing him to lose consciousness and nearly faint before being forcibly returned to the future world.
It was highly likely that Lin Yu had been ambushed. To put it bluntly, the person who came to take her away must have been someone she knew. Caught off guard, she was unwilling to leave him behind, which led to an attack from those in the future world. They took her away and left behind the coded message as a form of coercion, compelling him to go to 2080 to complete a mission to eradicate vampires.
Lost in thought, several members of the Sun Tribe were already approaching him.
Xiao Qiang hid in the shadows beneath a protruding rock, watching coldly as the Sun Tribe cautiously passed by.
Someone discovered bones underground and screamed in fear. Suddenly, a shadow struck with a swift ferocity, grabbing one person and vanishing without a trace.
The remaining members of the Sun Tribe noticed their companion had abruptly disappeared. Shocked and hesitant to move forward, they likely believed this was their territory and felt compelled to find the Wife of the Saint, so they had no intention of leaving immediately.
They steadied themselves, and at Xiao Qiang's distance, he could clearly hear their throats gulping nervously. They were tense and scared but had no choice but to continue searching.
The earlier attack had come too quickly; even Xiao Qiang hadn’t seen what had attacked the Sun Tribe. How could a few ordinary humans see it clearly?
Not knowing who their attacker was allowed for wild speculation. It could have been that figure from the Exorcism before—namely, the Wife of the Saint.
As the Sun Tribe pressed on, they muttered Exorcism incantations while instinctively extending their arms. The palms gripping their weapons were slick with sweat, and they dared not move an inch.
For Xiao Qiang, who remained hidden in the shadows, suppressing his presence and observing quietly, the Sun Tribe served as bait. As soon as that attacking creature reappeared, his dagger would thirst for blood.
In an instant, Xiao Qiang keenly observed a shadow moving swiftly along the cave wall above. Just as he registered it, the shadow dove down with claws extended; his dagger shot out in response.
The dagger struck true, stained with dark blood. However, after a piercing scream echoed through the cave, aside from Xiao Qiang catching a glimpse of a terrifying face, those few members of the Sun Tribe who were scared out of their wits saw no trace of any tangible creature.
The Sun Tribe began chattering again, but unfortunately, Xiao Qiang couldn't understand a word.
There were vampires in the cave! If his guess was correct, the vampires had been brought here by Lin Yu. The thought of vampires worried Xiao Qiang; he wondered if she had been bitten.
When several members of the Sun Tribe saw Saint, their expressions changed drastically, and they bowed low, preparing to exit. Xiao Qiang followed them to the cave entrance and noticed the bloodstains on the dagger. Suddenly, the blood seemed to come alive, peeling away in layers and vanishing into thin air.
This scene was too bizarre, leaving the Sun Tribe dumbfounded. Despite their loud voices and frantic gestures, Xiao Qiang couldn't grasp what they were trying to convey.
The language barrier prevented normal communication. As the Sun Tribe gestured to leave the cave, Xiao Qiang was fully focused on trying to deduce what they meant when a whirlwind suddenly rose from the ground and swept toward them.
Realizing something was wrong, Xiao Qiang shouted, "Run!" He fearlessly raised his dagger and lunged at the monster.
The whirlwind abruptly dispersed like dust in the wind, transforming into flying skeletons that targeted one of the individuals in the center. They pierced through his chest and morphed into a creature with fangs and red eyes typical of a vampire.
Xiao Qiang gasped in shock; it was indeed a vampire, though its face resembled that of an ape. As he charged forward with a shout, the creature roared back fiercely, shaking the ground! It extended its massive furry arms and swatted him down to the ground.
A ray of dawn appeared at the cave entrance. Lying on the ground, Xiao Qiang stared intently at the monster that recoiled from the light and vanished into thin air—this creature was afraid of light!
