In the future world, the moon appeared as a dim silhouette, its contours indistinguishable. In ancient times, under an unpolluted sky, the moon was so clear and bright. He clung to the wooden window frame, gazing intently, as if trapped within a black picture frame, observing the serene cold moon suspended in the dark canvas of the night. Its surroundings shimmered with a watery white light, creating a hazy visual effect, as if it were wrapped in a veil of mist.
A flash of lightning streaked across the night sky, racing swiftly toward the northwest. The chirping of tiny creatures seemed to sense that something was about to happen beneath the night sky. After a series of urgent calls, their sounds gradually subsided, leaving the night eerily quiet and desolate.
Xiao Qiang clutched a blanket that had an odd smell, staring blankly at the pitch-black space outside the wooden window. After a moment, he sighed softly and turned to lie down. Seeing that everyone inside had fallen asleep, a shadow lurking in the corner outside curled its lips into a strange smile and calmly departed under the cover of darkness.
The Dragon Gate Mountain Forbidden Area remained as silent and desolate as ever, devoid of human presence. The mountain wind gently swayed the branches, producing eerie creaking sounds. Lightning flickered in the sky as three flickering flames danced upward from below the mountain. Suddenly, there was a sound of stones being kicked over from somewhere, rolling down the slope and colliding with tree stumps with a crisp crack. Someone cursed in a foreign language; the flames flickered but did not hinder their advance.
The three men arrived at the entrance of Dragon Gate Cave, arms outstretched as if trying to cast all the light from their torches into the cave. The torches crackled and popped, their flames casting eerie shadows that leaped on the cave walls like phantoms.
They cautiously moved deeper into the cave. Their nerves made their steps unsteady, and their breathing grew heavy. Perhaps catching a glimpse of their own shadows made them instinctively flinch to the side several times, drenched in cold sweat.
"People scare people to death," one muttered in a foreign language.
What were they doing here in the dead of night? I couldn't say for sure, but judging by their behavior, it seemed they weren't here to enjoy the moonlight.
As they entered the cave, they hesitated at the sight of scattered bones on the ground. However, they couldn't resist the wise words from one among them and reluctantly continued forward.
Just then, as they walked in step together, an inexplicable cold wind blew from deep within the cave, extinguishing one of their torches. Startled! The three froze; one torch went out, and suddenly both light and warmth plummeted.
Two of them shivered uncontrollably and wanted to retreat from the cave. Just as they were about to back out, a shadow rushed out from deep within the cave. The three panicked before they could even comprehend what was happening; one among them had already vanished.
"Heavens... you said it wouldn't harm us!" one of the Sons of the Sun exclaimed as he turned and ran back, his tongue tripping over itself as he spoke to another who was also fleeing.
The other person did not respond but grabbed his fleeing companion and shouted into the cave: "Come on! I've got him!"
"What do you want?" His partner was shocked and terrified, trembling all over. His eyes bulged exaggeratedly in disbelief as he stared at his traitorous kin.
At that moment, a deafening roar echoed as the man-eating monster attacked once more. After a flurry of chaos, it swiftly swept away one of the Sons of the Sun who was still struggling with his companions, trying to escape.
A piercing scream shattered the silence, and then everything fell quiet. The remaining member of the Sun Tribe, holding a flickering torch, showed no intention of leaving; instead, he nervously stared into the depths of the dark cave.
The monster did not reappear, yet this Brother did not retreat to save his own life. Without hesitation, he pressed forward. The cave twisted and turned, littered with the bones of the dead, crushed remnants scattered everywhere.
Stepping on the remains of his ancestors, this Sun Tribe member felt no guilt; rather, he walked deeper inside with an air of calm confidence.
A chilling voice seemed to drift through the air. "Aren't you afraid of death?"
"How could I be afraid of death now that I've come this far?"
"No one dares to approach me, yet you deliberately betray your kin's lives and blood for the sake of immortality."
"I wish to strengthen the bloodline of the Sun Tribe; sacrifices must be made."
"Do you truly desire immortality?"
"Of course."
"Do you know what kind of suffering you will endure before achieving immortality?"
"Suffering does not exist for me." Despite his words, when he saw two corpses on the ground, drained of blood, his brow furrowed slightly, and his heart skipped a beat. His steps became somewhat frantic.
"Are you really not afraid that I might devour you as well?"
"You are the Holy Messenger. When you manifested in my perception, we reached an understanding. I have given you everything you need, and now you must fulfill your promise of granting me the hope of eternal life." He spoke as he slowly rotated in place, desperately waving the torch to locate the Bloodsucker that was speaking.
Suddenly, with a flick of his finger, the torch extinguished, and an endless darkness swallowed all light. He felt an overwhelming sense of panic as he sensed the creature's presence closing in from all directions.
Instinctively, he clenched his fists, his earlier confidence shattered by the sudden darkness. Doubt crept into his mind, and he began to regret his choices; how could a cold-blooded creature be trusted?
Fortunately, he had a weapon on him—a heavy iron hammer. Just as he pulled it out, a chilling presence appeared behind him, a shadowy figure materializing out of thin air. The shadow took form in the dark, revealing a grotesque humanoid monster.
As soon as the monster appeared, an indescribable allure ensnared his limbs. The creature moved closer, its icy breath palpable within arm's reach.
The monster opened its wide mouth, revealing rows of sharp teeth that glinted ominously as it lunged for his neck... Suddenly, it halted and said, "Since ancient times, all humans have feared me. They are paralyzed by terror and see me as a monster."
The one who yearned for eternal life from the Sun Tribe smiled seductively and replied, "They fear you; I do not. They keep their distance; I choose to draw near." With thoughts of imminent immortality flooding his mind, his fear dissipated, replaced by anticipation and an uncontrollable excitement.
The monster picked up an uncrushed skull from the ground and sliced open its wrist, letting dark liquid drip into the skull. "When you drink this, you will faint. If you can resist blood for a week while maintaining your current diet, then you will successfully gain my gift of eternal life. But if you succumb to your bloodthirsty instincts, your future will be spent in darkness."
He stared at the swirling liquid emitting a foul odor, hesitating as he contemplated whether to take the plunge for eternal life.
