Xiao Qiang felt as if he were surrounded by endless mountains, or perhaps he was listening to the sounds of insects and beasts that only echoed in the deep of night. Under the cold moonlight, the old trees cast dark shadows, and a pair of flickering eyes peered in through the window, staring at him in a way that sent chills down his spine.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his right shoulder and arm, causing him to instinctively turn to protect the painful area. He touched his chest; the bite wound had already healed. However, something felt off; his blood seemed to roar and rage within him, and he feared...
He had concealed the fact that he was bitten by a werewolf from Matt and Wu Yi. Holding onto a glimmer of hope that nothing would happen, he breathed in the strong scent of blood that made him nauseous while also forcing his consciousness to return to reality.
Xiao Qiang woke up to find the room in disarray, with several dead bodies scattered on the ground. Particularly near the corner lay one corpse that had met a truly gruesome end.
Crouching before this body, he extended his finger to straighten its position. A naked man—one, two, three, four, five, six—had been shot six times, with blood oozing from the wounds.
Xiao Qiang poked his finger into one of the wounds and pulled out a still-smoking bullet. The bullet resembled those found at Dongjiawan Tunnel and was heavily laced with silver.
So last night’s events weren’t just a dream? Where was she? He turned to search the room; she must have intended to leave without leaving a trace.
Someone entered from outside. Wu Yi's loud voice echoed before he even stepped inside: "Hey! Xiao Qiang, look at what you've done."
"I don't think it was him," Matt's voice chimed in as if inspecting the scene. It was clear that things outside were likely worse than inside; Xiao Qiang stood up straight and walked out confidently.
He appeared unscathed before Matt and Wu Yi, who both shook their heads with smiles: "Not bad."
"Weren't you two supposed to be out? Why are you back so soon?"
Wu Yi shrugged: "Looks like someone is worrying for nothing." He leaned against the window with crossed arms, watching Xiao Qiang with amusement. "You seem pretty refreshed after your nap."
"Yeah." Xiao Qiang couldn't feel happy about it; there were still several bodies to deal with. Moreover, he needed to settle accounts with Matt. As he spoke, he walked over and grabbed Matt by the collar, gritting his teeth: "Could you please give me a heads-up next time..."
"Oh come on! If it weren't for this situation, he wouldn't have rushed back," Wu Yi chimed in unexpectedly defending Matt. With a playful gesture, he picked at his nose and added: "You're fine, aren't you? Is there really any need to get angry?"
"Fine? Just go take a look inside and you'll understand."
"Oh?" Wu Yi paused in surprise, quickly putting down his elbows and hurrying inside.
"She has been here."
"Lin Yu?"
"Who else could it be?"
Xiao Qiang whispered, while Matt hurriedly stepped past him into the inner room.
A few minutes later, Matt emerged again, looking serious as he said to Xiao Qiang, "We have to leave here."
"Where to?"
"To a place where no one can find us." Seeing Xiao Qiang hesitate, Matt added, "They are all looking for you." He then walked straight into the kitchen and opened the door leading to the basement. "They came from here; there's a sewer entrance in the basement."
Xiao Qiang was confused and asked, "Why?"
Matt slammed the basement door shut and replied, "For the blood inside you."
Xiao Qiang was stunned. He remembered that in 2080, vampires had not yet discovered that he was the holder of the Rare Serum. If they had already found out, how could he have had a chance to return to the future world?
"I want to find her."
"It's useless; hurry up and pack." Matt urged Wu Yi and Xiao Qiang, saying, "After we leave, set this place on fire."
Xiao Qiang was reluctant to give up on finding Lin Yu.
"Let's go." Although Matt could be reckless, he genuinely cared for him. He continued, "If I’m not mistaken, they need your serum to awaken another vampire elder."
"How do you know?"
"Werewolves aren't truly out to kill you; they're just slaves to vampires. If I think about it, Lin Yu must know something, which is why he came here to save you."
"Lin Yu has been here?" Wu Yi exclaimed in surprise.
Matt did not respond to Wu Yi's question. With a tense expression, he asked briefly, "Are you ready?"
"Almost," Wu Yi replied, glancing at Xiao Qiang, hoping for a response.
"Yes, she has been here." Xiao Qiang picked up the packed bag and, under Wu Yi's astonished gaze, followed Matt out.
The Vampire Elder. Alien Catcher? If it’s him, then Catcher is now a three-thousand-year-old elder with immense power, several times stronger than Han Shaoyu.
Thick smoke billowed as flames consumed the house. Inside the car, Xiao Qiang and Wu Yi both glanced back at the burning building.
Which side does Lin Yu belong to now? They dared not meet her recklessly; they could only choose to retreat and observe the situation. "We can't always be passive and defensive; can we launch an offensive this time?" The car shot forward like a bullet, while Xiao Qiang remained troubled, recalling Dark's haunting gaze.
"If you hadn't told me about Dongjiawan encountering werewolves and seeing Lin Yu, I wouldn't have been so anxious. Maybe the werewolves came because they caught your scent. There were reports of mysterious human deaths before; we never thought it was the work of werewolves," Wu Yi said with a bitter smile, spitting on the ground as he continued, "I'm also part of the Wolf Clan..."
"Don't get sidetracked; stay safe."
Night gradually fell as the car sped down the empty highway. A full moon slowly emerged from behind the clouds. Matt and Wu Yi watched nervously ahead; their car had to pass through a large forest. If all went well, they would cross it in half an hour.
Matt gazed at the increasingly visible full moon in the sky, his heart racing. He thought he could hear heavy breathing and rustling from within the woods—perhaps hundreds of Head Wolves were waiting for their arrival.
"Turn around."
With a sharp screech of brakes, Wu Yi asked in confusion, "What?"
Matt took a deep breath and forced himself to stay calm. "There must be something in the woods."
"When did you become so sensitive?" Wu Yi grumbled, but he turned the car around as requested. As the vehicle made a U-turn on the road, why was Xiao Qiang in the back seat silent?
Both Matt and Wu Yi turned their heads to look.
Xiao Qiang was gripping the front seat tightly, gasping for air, as if he was trying hard to endure something.
"Is he...?"
"Don't worry about it for now." Matt felt a jolt of concern seeing Xiao Qiang like this, unsure of what else he might be hiding.
Xiao Qiang felt his blood surging, his body undergoing an upgrade, accompanied by an overwhelming urge that was about to burst forth. His bones were shifting and deforming; this transformation felt different from the previous ones—it was a terrifying physical change.
"I... got bitten by a werewolf..."
Xiao Qiang's words detonated like a bomb, leaving Matt and Wu Yi stunned in the car.
The full moon became clearer, and Xiao Qiang was howling and struggling. If he didn't control himself, he might have already transformed into a werewolf. Once transformed, he would lose his humanity, putting both Matt and Wu Yi in danger.
