Regarding Yilan Shan, it seems rather arbitrary. How can the opposite sex appear so unworthy in her eyes? It's a sweeping generalization that is unfair to many.
Ye Liu Yun has a certain charm; his methods are extreme, and his disposition is somewhat flawed, yet he is not an irredeemable person. When I first met him, my impression was quite good, until he began to meddle in my personal affairs, which changed my perception of him.
Being his girlfriend is exhausting.
First, aside from him, I am not allowed to have any interactions with other males. Even if I encounter familiar classmates or friends, I must maintain distance.
Second, my phone must always be accessible; if something comes up, I need to contact him immediately.
Third, his family is wealthy, and with money comes power. He can surround my desk with female classmates or even spend a little to hire someone to keep tabs on me and report my whereabouts. He would go as far as using GPS tracking devices.
After six months, I am so tired! If this continues, I will surely end up as one of the Four Hospitals' members, and the youngest one at that. Before I truly become his girlfriend, cutting ties swiftly is my only wish.
He has the means to obtain the address for my internship; unless I find a hidden place on my own, even if it means enduring some hardship at work, it would be worth it to escape his relentless pursuit.
Having finished my chores inside, I stepped outside for some fresh air. To my surprise, I noticed a delicate Bagua Mirror hanging on Yilan Shan's porch.
I had seen such Bagua Mirrors in temples and books before, so when I saw one in person, I couldn't help but reach out and play with it.
Yilan Shan walks quietly; when she saw me handling the Bagua Mirror, she suddenly asked, "Do you know what this is?"
Her tone was probing, but I genuinely didn't know what significance the Bagua Mirror held in terms of feng shui. "I know this is a Bagua Mirror, but I'm not sure what it's used for."
Yilan Shan seemed to be in a good mood today. She smiled as she approached me and took the Bagua Mirror from my hands. With a complex look in her eyes, she explained, "The Bagua Mirror protects the safety of those living inside the house; it is used to ward off evil."
"Oh." Her knowledge about the Bagua Mirror made her seem quite remarkable.
"Are your clothes all ironed?"
"Yes."
"Good. You are a diligent child; keep up the good work." As she spoke, she turned to leave.
I hesitated for a moment before asking, "Sister Yi, why do you burn Hell Money every day? I remember that we only do that on the 14th and 15th of Ghost Month."
Yilan Shan didn't get angry at my odd question; instead, she nodded with a smile and said, "Ghost Month is the time when Yama King grants amnesty to the spirits in the underworld. We have to take good care of those homeless wandering souls until Ghost Month is over."
"Oh." She is a good person! It seems that Yang Gang has misunderstood her. Regardless of whether such things exist in this world, her open-mindedness and thoughtful actions could not possibly belong to a Witch.
Today, Yilan Shan was going out with Mute Aunt, and before leaving, she naturally gave me another round of instructions. She repeated herself tirelessly while I listened respectfully; only then would she feel at ease to go shopping.
I just couldn't help but wonder why two-thirds of the items they brought back were Hell Money.
What kind of person is Yilan Shan? She hardly had any neighbors. The villas here are quite spread out, with only one family far away. The construction and layout of this area mostly mimic the style of Western estates.
As long as you have money, you can buy land and houses here to become your private property. Yilan Shan had no neighbors; the entire large house was just her and Mute Aunt.
If they went shopping, I wouldn't dare stay alone in this house that gave me an indescribable feeling. But I had to make good use of this hard-won freedom and first say a few words to Zhu Zhu.
Zhu Zhu is a lawyer by profession, and she has recently been learning to drive. Her father is a wealthy businessman, and her mother is an executive at a company; overall, their family conditions are quite good.
I wondered what news she would bring me this time. As soon as I connected the call, I was surprised when she immediately turned into a veritable roaring lion!
Zhu Zhu said, "Ye Liu Yun has been looking for you everywhere; he won't let up even in windy or rainy weather. I'm worried he might go crazy."
I was speechless! "..." What is foolish persistence? It's stupidity!
"He came here demanding your address. I told him I didn't know where you were, but he seemed not to believe me." I could sense Zhu Zhu's anxious state of mind.
However, I truly disliked hearing Ye Liu Yun's name for a long time now. Whatever he wanted to do was his business; it had nothing to do with me. "Dear, our time is precious; let's not talk about him, okay?"
"Alright then, are you getting used to it there?" She asked delicately, fearing I might get angry.
"It's alright! They keep acting all mysterious." I glanced around the room and lowered my voice. "But there's this strange feeling that something exists in this house."
Upon hearing this, Zhu Zhu must have exaggeratedly opened her alluring mouth wide and exclaimed, "You can't be influenced by your employer, can you? What era are we living in? You really believe in those things?"
"No, it's just a feeling." I wanted to say more when a knock echoed through the air. "Someone's at the door," I murmured, barely audible.
Zhu Zhu, with her keen ears, picked it up. "Doesn't such a wealthy employer have a doorbell?"
Yilan Shan mentioned that there was no doorbell at home because she felt it was unnecessary. However, I noticed that their front door had once had a doorbell installed, but it had been deliberately removed.
"That's strange," Zhu Zhu finally sensed the odd atmosphere from my words.
I stared at the persistently knocking door, wondering who would come knocking at this hour. It couldn't be Yilan Shan and the others; even if it were them, they had keys and wouldn't need to knock.
Zhu Zhu continued to chatter on the phone, and I covered the receiver, lowering my voice. "Alright, I need to get to work."
Reluctantly, she replied, "Fine, bye!"
Preparing for the worst, I thought that the person knocking must be an unwelcome visitor. Could it be Ye Liu Yun? No way. He wouldn't have any way of knowing my secret workplace unless he got real information from Zhu Zhu.
I opened the door and froze, surprised as I said, "What are you doing here?"
