"I never expected that you, Magneto's right-hand assistant, would come to find me, the one who personally sent him to prison," Shasha said, a teasing glint in his eyes as he looked at the blonde woman before him. He knew she must have come with a request.
The blonde woman's identity was instantly revealed as her form shifted, her alluring blue skin adorned with intricate patterns signaling her true nature.
"It is precisely because you sent him to prison that you have the means to rescue him," Mystique replied, a faint smile on her lips as she subtly flattered Shasha while revealing her own intentions.
"You want me to rescue Magneto? Do you think I'm foolish enough to let a tiger return to the mountain and then let that guy come back to trouble me?" Shasha scoffed. "You must be assuming too much."
Mystique remained unfazed by his sarcasm and calmly continued, "There are no absolute enemies, only eternal interests. Even enemies can find opportunities for cooperation, can't they? I can guarantee that once this is done, Eric will not come looking for trouble again. In fact, he could even help you deal with Jin Bing."
Shasha raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Alright, how do you propose we cooperate?"
"If you want to replace Jin Bing, you'll need evidence of his collusion with the government. With that, you can pressure his connections within the government to turn against him. Without their support, replacing him by force would likely go unchallenged."
Mystique was undeniably clever; she had articulated part of Shasha's plan.
Disappointing the government was just the beginning; stripping away his connections until he was utterly isolated was the ultimate goal.
Truly a talent for espionage.
Shasha reflected on this and smiled faintly. "I'll consider this cooperation for now. If I decide, I'll let you know."
"Then I look forward to your good news," Mystique said without pressing further and turned to leave.
To be honest, even if he didn't rescue Magneto himself, it was likely that someone else would eventually do so. It might be better to do her a favor in passing. However, directly helping her seemed too cheap for such a transaction.
For now, he would keep her appetite whetted and wait for the right moment to engage in this deal.
For instance, waiting until Anna returned from her studies to infiltrate Jin Bing's organization and gather evidence of his crimes.
With that thought in mind, a subtle smile appeared on Shasha's face.
Since the Brotherhood's power had waned significantly, the Warriors had become dominant among mutants.
Yet Charles could not find joy in this situation. He felt the weight of being targeted and could hear and sense the city's views on mutants all around him.
The situation was dire; this was the current plight of mutants.
Knock, knock, knock.
Qin pushed the door open and entered, looking at Charles, who was frowning in thought. She couldn't help but sigh. "Professor, recently many young mutants have been coming here."
Snapping back to reality, Charles replied, "I understand. We must do our best to accept them."
"I know that, but our academy's funding..." Qin said with a bitter smile. They had no other sources of income; most of their expenses were covered by those compatriots working outside.
However, ever since Magneto caused that uproar, the situation for mutants had worsened. Many of their kind began returning home, afraid to go outside for fear of being discovered and captured by radical humans.
Charles had never anticipated facing a funding crisis. Hearing her words, he couldn't help but smile wryly. "I hadn't thought of that. What do you suggest, Qin?"
A hint of discomfort crossed Qin's face as she replied, "The only viable option is to find a suitable benefactor."
Seeing her expression, Charles understood she had someone in mind, but knowing her relationship with that person made him chuckle. "You're thinking of Samal, aren't you?"
Qin turned her head away and awkwardly nodded.
Charles, amused by the situation, said playfully, "Why don’t you go talk to him?"
"Me?" Qin exclaimed in surprise, pointing at herself.
Watching Qin's frustrated expression, Shasha found it quite amusing but showed some impatience on her face. "Charles called you here to discuss matters, not to give me attitude."
Qin gritted her teeth; for some reason, every time she saw Shasha, she was reminded of that door and felt an anger rising within her.
"Mr. Samar, I assume you've already spoken with the professor before I arrived?"
Shasha nodded. "I hear your academy is facing funding issues?"
"Yes," Qin replied stiffly. "So what do you mean by that?"
"Since Professor Charles has reached out, I will certainly help," Shasha said slowly. "However..."
"What's the matter?" Qin frowned. "Do you want to propose any more conditions?"
"Shouldn't I be allowed to propose conditions?" Shasha replied, looking surprised. "You don't think I'm just going to give you money for nothing, do you?"
"You..." Qin couldn't help but want to curse, but she managed to suppress her anger with her self-restraint.
Shasha smiled brightly. "Before you arrived, Professor Charles already discussed with me about using your research and development technology in exchange for funding."
Qin laughed in frustration. "That's what the professor agreed to, not me."
Shasha shot back directly, "But the professor entrusted you to sign the contract."
Qin fell silent, coldly staring at Shasha. She realized that her self-restraint was almost being pushed to its limits by this man in front of her.
