After Tony followed Rogers into the room, he made an excuse to step out for a walk. In reality, he was installing some devices, such as surveillance cameras. After all, this guy was an inventor; what couldn't he create?
In this day and age, many not-so-bustling city hotels still hadn't installed surveillance in their elevators, and the place they were staying at was one of them. Therefore, while he was setting up these devices, he went unnoticed.
The reason for his actions was to locate Shasha. He knew that guy was quite mysterious; even staying in a hotel wouldn't guarantee he could find him.
Pulling out his homemade phone, he connected to the surveillance cameras and watched the images displayed on the screen, nodding in satisfaction.
When Shasha returned to the hotel, he didn't take the elevator to avoid running into Tony and the others; instead, he used the emergency exit.
But Tony was clever. He had already prepared for this and had installed surveillance in the emergency exit as well. So when Shasha's figure appeared, he immediately locked onto him, planning to give Shasha a surprise.
Although Shasha didn't think he had been discovered, he remained cautious. However, when Tony tried to tap him on the shoulder from behind, Shasha instinctively turned and attempted to throw him to the ground.
With a thud, Tony hit the floor, but the back armor of his Iron Man Suit absorbed most of the impact. He gasped and then chuckled helplessly. "Are you really that on edge?"
Seeing it was Tony, Shasha looked surprised. "It's you! How did you find me?"
As he spoke, he pulled Tony up. It had been a while since they last met, and he missed his friend despite their different paths; there was no real conflict between them.
"What if I had discovered you before checking in?" Tony teased. But upon seeing Shasha's serious expression, he waved his hand dismissively. "Alright, I did see you; I just wasn't sure where you were, so I set up a few things."
"So only you know I'm here?" Shasha asked, visibly relieved.
Tony nodded and then asked curiously, "How did you end up in Egypt?"
How could Shasha explain? He was almost certain that Rogers, Tony, and Peter were here for Black Queen as well. He shared that same goal; they were all competitors now.
"Buddy, I think you can help me cover up that I was never here," Shasha said, patting Tony on the shoulder and giving him a meaningful look that suggested he should figure it out for himself.
Tony frowned immediately but didn’t press further. He suspected that Shasha might be connected to their current mission, but he wasn’t foolish enough to reveal his encounter with her.
After catching up for a bit, they parted ways. Before leaving, Shasha discreetly swiped Tony's custom-made smartphone and a few miniature surveillance devices. Once back in his room, he warned Anna and Felicia not to wander around carelessly.
Anna and Felicia were not ordinary people; someone like Rogers could spot their unusual nature at a glance.
After giving his instructions, Shasha ran through all the floors, installing surveillance devices everywhere. His purpose was not just to keep an eye on the S.H.I.E.L.D. team; he believed the White Queen and her group would also arrive.
Sure enough, the next day, after wandering aimlessly in the desert, the White Queen checked into the Cairo Hotel with Card King and another handsome man known as the Blonde Man. Their room was on the first floor, while Tony's group was on the ninth floor, and Shasha's team occupied the sixteenth floor.
Shasha was puzzled about who this Blonde Man was; he couldn’t recall anyone fitting that description among the Marvel characters he knew.
In Room 106, the White Queen was filled with complaints and resentment about wasting time here without any results. If it weren't for Tessa's direct words, she would have thought she had been played.
"Where exactly is this place Tessa mentioned? Egypt is so vast; are we supposed to turn it upside down?"
Card King and the Blonde Man both smiled wryly at her words; the information was indeed too vague. After a moment of thought, it was the Blonde Man who spoke up. "We've always assumed that the statue should be in some building above ground. But what if we think outside the box? Could it be underground? In a place we all know but would never expect?"
The White Queen's eyes lit up at this suggestion. "Warren, that's a great point! Perhaps we've been thinking about this all wrong."
At this moment, Card King chimed in unexpectedly, "What if... the statue is inside the Sphinx?"
What started as a joke suddenly caught the attention of both the White Queen and Warren. They exchanged glances and nodded slightly; it was clear they were considering checking it out. If it turned out to be true, that would be fantastic; if not, they would only waste a little time since the statue had yet to be fully sacrificed.
That night, Card King left the hotel mysteriously alone while Shasha instructed Felicia to follow him discreetly.
Card King's destination was naturally the Sphinx. He bypassed the guards at the tourist site and entered inside the statue. At first glance, there seemed to be nothing special about it; however, there was one area rumored to be cursed by pharaohs, which kept most people away. Curious, he decided to investigate further.
At first glance, all that met the eye was a stretch of yellow mud and black soil, with earthen structures inside. The walls were adorned with murals, and there was nothing particularly special about the place. Undeterred, the Card King continued deeper, as if entering a long corridor where the murals would repeat at certain points, making him feel as though he had been walking in circles without finding an exit.
A visual maze!
Though still relatively young, the Card King had traveled far and wide and had seen similar situations before. Thus, it didn't take him long to return to the original entrance.
Yes, the entrance, not the end point.
There was something eerie about this place, enough to raise suspicions. If he had been half-convinced before arriving, now the Card King was seven-tenths sure that this was indeed the location of the sacrificial statue.
Having completed his task, the Card King left, with Felicia trailing behind him. She had remained hidden throughout, a testament to her skills as Black Cat, a master of stealth.
The two returned to the hotel with valuable information, one after the other.
