A heavy thud echoed as something fell to the ground. Robert and Damon, drained of their energy, had collapsed. Tessa, after a moment of dizziness, steadied herself and looked around.
They were underground, in the place where the statue was located. Letting out a sigh of relief, her gaze became casual. But as she swept her eyes across the room, they widened in shock—suspended above the statue by ropes were none other than the three members of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"How could this happen? How could they be captured so easily?"
"This is the statue?!" The surprised voice of the White Queen interrupted Tessa's thoughts. The woman, who never hid her emotions, stepped forward toward the statue that exuded an eerie aura.
Just as she was about to reach the statue, a massive axe fell from above, blocking her path.
The attention of both the White Queen and Tessa was finally drawn to the Jackal-headed Man who had appeared before them.
Having never seen the Jackal-headed Man before, Tessa couldn't suppress her astonishment. It dawned on her that the Black Queen had never truly trusted them. If she had genuinely trusted them, why would she have sent them in as cannon fodder while relying on this monster as a last resort?
"Come out, Selene! I know you're here!" At the sight of the Jackal-headed Man, the White Queen finally regained her composure. Although she acted rather straightforwardly and seemed lacking in cunning, it didn't mean she wasn't intelligent. She couldn't help but sigh internally, realizing that she had fallen into Selene's trap due to her own greed.
A mocking laugh accompanied by the sound of high heels clicking against the floor announced the arrival of the Black Queen. Her tall and graceful figure appeared before the White Queen, a smirk playing on her lips as she looked at her. "This game is quite simple, isn't it? Dealing with someone as rigid as you is easy. You have the ability to change your circumstances but refuse to use those means. So victory was never yours from the start."
The Black Queen's words made the White Queen's expression darken further, yet she couldn't refute them because it was true. Insisting on a straightforward approach led to failure; having strength without strategy was futile. After all, when she and the Black Queen had worked together to oust Sebastian Shaw and jointly control Hellfire, she had thought it was solely due to her efforts. Little did she realize that without the Black Queen's cunning tactics, things would not have progressed so smoothly.
Regret came too late!
Well then, even if failure was inevitable, she would shine in her own way—brilliant like a diamond!
Looking at the diamond-like White Queen before her, the Black Queen sighed regretfully. "Emma, I will miss what we once had."
Before she could finish speaking, the Jackal-headed Man standing silently behind her began to step forward.
As the Jackal-headed Man approached, it raised its massive axe and then slowly brought it down.
Boom!
The ground shook violently, as if the earth itself was collapsing within a five-mile radius. Shasha, rushing forward, halted in her tracks as she gazed at the dust cloud surrounding the Sphinx. This commotion signaled a significant change regarding the statue; which side had emerged victorious?
Her expression shifted as she resumed her sprint, closing the distance to the Sphinx—one kilometer, one hundred meters, ten meters—she charged in.
Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!
The sound of black chains being pulled echoed eerily in the silent pit. Standing there, apart from the Black Queen, was only Tessa. Hanging from the statue were not only three members of S.H.I.E.L.D. but also two from the White Queen's side and three from their own Black Queen's faction.
At that moment, Tessa's face turned pale; she had already guessed what the Black Queen intended to do next.
“Tessa, I have always admired you. I believed you would be my most capable assistant,” the Black Queen said with a somber tone. “I always thought I could control everything, but I never expected that you were a traitor from the very beginning!”
Biting her lip and suppressing her fear, Tessa replied coldly, “We all serve our own masters.”
“Indeed, you shouldn't be blamed by me; I’m just feeling a bit sentimental,” the Black Queen waved her hand dismissively, her expression one of regret.
Allowing herself to be captured and hung up without resistance, Tessa knew fighting back was futile. The only woman still standing had plotted against everyone, including those loyal to her.
“I didn’t expect that at this moment of my success, you would be the only one here to witness it.” The Black Queen smiled as she looked toward the only passage leading to this place.
Shasha slowly emerged, narrowing her eyes behind her helmet.
“If your starting point hadn’t been so low, perhaps you could have competed with me. In my eyes, you are smarter than Emma. Given more time, you could grow stronger than me. But unfortunately, you don’t have that time anymore.”
Coldly gazing at the smiling visage of the Black Queen, Shasha remained silent, for she had already begun to act.
Eight individuals hung in the air, forming an octagonal Star Array, enveloped by the energy sigils drawn by the Black Queen.
Shasha clearly saw a certain energy being extracted from the bodies of those eight and injected into the statue. This scene made it impossible for him to stand idly by; perhaps Rogers and Tony would survive, but he couldn't take that risk!
If these key figures, who influenced the fate of the future, were to die, then the will of this universe would likely collapse.
He couldn't afford to gamble; he had to destroy the statue!
Taking a step forward, with a giant axe looming over him, Shasha stepped back to evade the blade, looking at the Jackal-headed Man, who resembled an Egyptian god of death, and couldn't help but smirk coldly. "You are Set's consciousness?"
The Jackal-headed Man paused his swing, leaning on his axe as he gazed at Shasha's crimson eyes. "I didn't expect anyone would remember my god's name after a thousand years."
"Do you think your reputation is impressive?" Shasha retorted coldly, his hands vibrating under the influence of the Destroyer Armor.
The Jackal-headed Man raised his axe to block, astonished as he looked at Shasha. "I never thought humanity could still produce a powerhouse like you. But it's a pity—humans are destined to never overcome the gods!"
After that regretful tone came a flurry of strikes from the giant axe.
The Destroyer Armor played a decisive role; that giant axe couldn't harm Shasha in the slightest.
"What kind of armor is this?!" The Jackal-headed Man shouted in frustration, his movements not slowing down in the least.
Shasha naturally wouldn't answer him. With the Destroyer Armor as his support, he quickly gained the upper hand against the Jackal-headed Man in close combat.
Bang!
As the punch sent the Jackal-headed Man crashing into the wall several dozen meters away, Shasha turned her gaze towards the statue. The eight figures atop it were growing weaker by the moment; there was no time to waste!
Channeling Vibration, she gathered a dense, brilliant white energy in her hand, shining as brightly as the sun.
With all her strength, Shasha unleashed that punch!
“No!” Selene, who was maintaining the magic circle, screamed in despair.
The white light spread, corroding everything inch by inch, as tremors began to ripple outwards like a magnitude nine earthquake.
The ground collapsed, rocks flew everywhere, continuously burying everything in sight.
'Chain Side Quest completed, branch choice achieved, Selene dead.'
The series of System notifications rang out, bringing a faint smile of relief to Shasha's face as she felt her energy depleting from Vibration and her eyelids growing heavy.
