On the way to the Southern Plains, the three of them traveled together. The Sword Demon Ato was currently rampaging in the south, and the lord of the southern city-state, Annie Cid, had sent multiple requests for help. However, due to the devastation in the north, they were unable to provide any assistance.
"Once we cross this ice field, we'll be close to the northernmost part of Dessa Province. I wonder if it has already fallen to Sword Demon Ato," Snuff sighed, worry etched on his face.
Shasha thought this was completely pointless. Since Sword Demon Ato had already destroyed the north, it was inevitable that he would first conquer the border cities before advancing south. It was only natural that Dessa Province would be occupied; Snuff must still be holding onto some hope.
Yan glanced at him with a hint of pity. The confidence of this once-mighty warrior from Feleze had been shattered, and he couldn't even think through such a simple deduction. "Let's take a detour. Charging in recklessly might lead us into a trap."
At these words, Snuff fell silent, a flicker of sorrow crossing his eyes—whether for the people of Dessa Province or for himself, it was hard to tell.
Changing their route would undoubtedly take double the time. Even though they were racing against time, caution was still necessary.
However, despite all their calculations, Yan had not anticipated that by the time she and Shasha arrived in Feleze, Sword Demon Ato would already be aware of their presence.
"Ever since we were repelled during the last strategic missile raid, those guys have been relentless in pursuing us. Now that you have reached Feleze, Kesha's pursuers will arrive in no time. You must prepare everything before they get here."
Recalling Her Majesty's instructions before her departure, a glint of brilliance flashed in the eyes of the fearsome Sword Demon who instilled dread in Feleze. "Her Majesty is truly insightful. Even though I knew you would come to Feleze, it's a pity you were still one step too late. Feleze is now entirely under my control—except for that rather troublesome woman of mine."
Seated upon his throne, he struck the Sword of Command against the ground with a deep thud. Moments later, several Primordial Demons crawled into the hall and awaited his orders at his feet.
"Take your men and continuously harass them; I don't care how many subordinates we lose!"
The Primordial Demons nodded and dissipated into black smoke within the hall.
"Thousands of years of warfare wisdom tell me that waiting for the enemy while conserving strength is the best choice. Hahaha!"
His sharp and piercing laughter echoed throughout the hall as Sword Demon Ato gradually faded into nothingness.
The detour around Dessa Province took half as long as expected, and along the way, they hardly saw a living soul; only bloodthirsty and malevolent Primal Demons roamed about in search of prey.
"It seems the south has fallen as well," Snuff said with increasing pessimism.
Shasha remained noncommittal, glancing at the surroundings as darkness gradually enveloped them. Not far away lay a village, its smoke long since faded into history. "Let's rest in the village ahead tonight," she suggested.
Yan nodded, noticing Snuff hesitating to speak. He remarked lightly, "Since there are Primal Demons wandering here, it proves that the south hasn't completely fallen under Sword Demon Ato's control. Delaying a bit won't hurt."
It was somewhat amusing; before Sword Demon Ato's arrival, Feleze had been divided into northern and southern factions, perpetually at war. This time, however, it was external forces that had brought the two sides to a truce. If it were in the past, she would have likely wished for the south's downfall.
As they entered the village, they found it just as they had expected—devoid of any living souls. Even on the parched land, there were bloodstains that even the wind and sand could not erode.
The only good news was that the villagers who had turned into demons did not consume human food, so there was plenty of sustenance available for their journey south.
"Demons are rushing here!" Yan's expression changed slightly as he prepared to sleep.
Snuff quickly grabbed his weapon and charged out of the house.
As Shasha and Yan stepped outside, they heard Snuff shouting loudly, "Come on! Come over here! Sword Demon Ato, I know you're watching! If you have the guts, come out and kill me!"
Shasha and Yan exchanged glances and sighed; this northern overlord was too repressed and desperately needed an outlet for his frustrations.
Just then, a swarm of Primal Demons approached from the south, their gargoyle-like forms swarming in a way that sent chills down one's spine.
As they dove down from the sky, Snuff roared and swung his great sword. The blood of the Primal Demons splattered everywhere, dyeing him crimson. He seemed to transform into a demon harvesting machine, effortlessly tearing several demons apart with each swing.
Suddenly, Shasha sensed something had changed in Snuff. Yan activated his quantum analysis eye and looked astonished. "It seems that some gene has awakened within Snuff's body; his anger grants him immense strength and makes him impervious to pain—just like a Berserker. This must be a natural awakening."
"Could it be that he once possessed Divine River Gene?" Shasha speculated.
Yan shook his head. "If that were the case, I would be able to tell. Just like back on Earth, I could see where the three major projects of Divine River Gene were located. This is a genetic engineering project that Shenhe has been brewing for thousands of years; it possesses incredible power."
Shasha's heart stirred as she suddenly recalled Glen, Liu Chuang, and Reina's nicknames—Galactic Power, Nox Star Warlord, and Sunlight. There had always been names miscalled but never wrong nicknames.
If Solar Power can manipulate stellar energy, then what about Galactic Power?
Lost in thought for a moment, Shasha was interrupted by a furious roar. Her gaze swept over to Snuff, who was now drenched in blood and howling like a frenzied beast, having already slaughtered the Primal Demons around him.
"This is bad; this guy's genetic power has gone out of control, and he's lost his sanity!"
Just as Yan was about to step forward to intervene, Shasha raised her hand to stop him. "Even though you're fast, you won't be able to subdue him in such a short time. Did you notice anything about him?"
Yan looked closely and was increasingly astonished. "He doesn't have a single wound!"
"If I'm not mistaken, anger is the source of his power," Shasha said as she slowly approached, drawing Snuff's attention. She beckoned him with her finger. "Come here and unleash your fury!"
Snuff dragged his great sword towards her, charging in like a storm.
