Chapter 07: Weakness
Madman Qinyao finally woke up, but I was left feeling disappointed.
He was still a madman, and it was pointless to ask him anything. The true identity of that bag of bones remained a mystery, and I could only lament my helplessness.
Time slipped away from me just like that.
I couldn't figure out whether this Madman Qinyao was Qin Ye or just a lunatic.
Fat was rambling on endlessly, regardless of Chi Xinrong's presence, sitting there cursing me for taking in a madman. If I hadn't taken him in, none of this would have happened.
I tell you, a person's patience has its limits.
While Fat kept whining, my fist could no longer contain itself and came crashing down hard on his face.
"Brother Qi, I'm sorry," Fat cried out, his voice making Chi Xinrong look at him with newfound respect. That girl had a ruthless streak; not only did she not stop me from hitting him, but she also watched Fat's eyes turn into panda eyes with a sense of curiosity.
She kept giggling uncontrollably.
I shot her an annoyed glare and stormed into the house. Just as I stepped inside, Han Mi arrived behind me.
"Brother Qi..." She saw Chi Xinrong, noticed the madman devouring his food, and then glanced at the beaten-up Fat. Cautiously, she asked, "Who hit him? Was it Brother Qi?"
"What are you doing here?" Chi Xinrong questioned bluntly. Her demeanor had already made her feel like half the mistress of the house, exuding an intimidating presence! Han Mi scoffed lightly, ignoring her completely as she headed straight for my bedroom.
She knocked on the door, and I thought it was Chi Xinrong. Annoyed, I snapped, "Don't disturb me."
"Brother Qi."
Hearing Han Mi's voice, I quickly walked to the door and opened it. "Come in."
She stepped inside, clasping her hands behind her back and looking around. "Have you gained weight?"
"Yeah."
"What is Chi Xinrong doing here?"
"How would I know! Do you need something from me?" I didn't want to tell Han Mi about what had just happened; it was for her own good. This girl was too curious about everything.
Seeing that I refused to answer her question about Chi Xinrong's purpose for being here, Han Mi raised an eyebrow, slightly displeased, but still told me, "I've done a lot of research and finally narrowed it down to one person. Various sources indicate that he resembles the Qin Ye you're looking for."
"Who?"
"Qin Ye from the East City West Suburb Mental Hospital."
Madman Qinyao again! Could it be a mistake? This was just self-deception; deep down, I knew Madman Qinyao was not simple, yet I couldn't bring myself to believe that Qin Ye was a lunatic. I simply couldn't accept the fact that he was insane.
"Have you seen him?"
Han Mi shook her head. "I haven't gone to the Mental Hospital to verify."
"No, he's right outside."
Madman Qinyao had been meticulously groomed by Fat and Chi Xinrong. He wore clean clothes, had his hair cut, and was freshly shaven, transforming into a completely different person. He appeared refreshed and clean, with a hint of mature charm.
Han Mi and I stood together in front of Madman Qinyao. Watching him burp and casually wipe his mouth, observing the way he squinted at people, I couldn't believe he was the same person as Lao Luo.
In fact, deep down, I was already convinced he was Qin Ye.
But why couldn't I accept that acknowledgment?
"Is he really Qin Ye?"
I nodded. "Absolutely."
"But he's a madman. Look at him—his words are all mixed up and unclear. How could it be possible?" Chi Xinrong also doubted that this person was the Qin Ye we had been desperately searching for.
I recalled that Qin Ye was afraid of dogs and couldn't help but smile to myself. I turned to Fat. "Go borrow Uncle Zhang's Wolfdog."
Fat agreed and got up to leave. As I heard the distant roar of a motorcycle fading away, Madman Qinyao relaxed, propping one leg up and picking at his teeth without a care in the world. He completely ignored our presence, then picked his nose and sniffed his fingers before wiping them on his pants leg, flashing us a grin.
What a show! I couldn't believe he could keep this up. Just wait and see how I would deal with you.
Han Mi was clearing the dishes.
Chi Xinrong was sweeping the floor. The two girls didn't need explicit division of labor; they each busied themselves with their tasks.
I just stared at Madman Qinyao, following him closely. He took one step, and I matched his pace; he took two steps, and I caught up.
When he went to the bathroom, I stood guard outside.
Before long, I heard Wolfdog barking—Fatty was back.
After parking the car, I led Wolfdog, who was straining at the leash, into the house. I pointed towards the bathroom and said, "In there."
Fatty laughed and tied Wolfdog to the doorknob. He crossed his arms and stood back to watch while I left the bathroom door and sat on a stool, waiting for Madman Qinyao to come out for some entertainment.
However, to my surprise, he didn’t come out after a long wait. There was no sound from inside either. Feeling uneasy, I quickly got up to check.
What a sight.
Madman Qinyao was stuck halfway out of the bathroom's back window, struggling as he kicked his legs vigorously.
"Hahaha! Hey! Qin Ye, if you just admit it, we could be done here. Is showing off worth any money?"
Hearing this, the struggling Madman Qinyao froze. After a long sigh, he said, "You little brat, you’re ruthless. Help me down and take that Wolfdog away."
Got it!
I agreed to let Fatty take Wolfdog. Wolfdog barked a few times in dissatisfaction at the bathroom and was reluctantly dragged away by Fatty.
I called Mi to come over with Chi Xinrong, and the three of us pulled hard on Qin Ye's legs to get him out from the stuck window.
Qin Ye landed on his feet and shot me an annoyed glare: "You ungrateful brat."
This was Qin Ye. The Strange Uncle I liked, humorous and quirky, possessing the skills of Mystical Arts.
We were all very happy to have found Qin Ye.
Qin Ye solemnly told me, "The bones belong to Li Gui's Mother. This is also Li Gui's weakness; exchanging the bones for Yin Yin's Skull is not a problem."
It turned out that Li Gui's Mother also enjoyed eating dog meat, and she had quite the method for it.
She would lure the dogs with bait, trap them with a rope, and drag them to the door frame. Pulling them up, the dogs would be hanged alive under the frame. She would then skin them, clean them thoroughly, and store the meat to eat slowly.
Although Li Gui was an Evil Sorcerer, he was particularly filial.
He didn't know that after his mother died, her soul wandered in Evil Dog Village, becoming a feast for the Vicious Dogs. Eventually, her soul would scatter, unable to reincarnate unless someone risked their life to steal her bones back to the human world. Only after undergoing the trials of the Diamond Sutra could there be a chance for rebirth.
So that's how it was!
I cast my first admiring glance at Qin Ye. I was even impulsively tempted to ask him to be my mentor, but to my surprise, Qin Ye refused, saying, "If you can still appear alive in front of me after your calamity, I will take you as my disciple. For now, take care of yourself and hurry to save Yin Yin; don't let yourself become an Evil Spirit."
What the hell! There are people like this who know I have a major calamity coming and yet offer no help, just cold words. Fine! If he doesn't want to take me as a disciple, I can't just kneel down and beg him!
The idea of becoming his disciple was temporarily shelved. Qin Ye had already figured out the habitat of Li Gui.
Li Gui resided in a little-known basement, specifically in an abandoned Iron Foundry not far from the East Suburb Mental Hospital.
At that moment, I refused Han Mi and Chi Xinrong from coming along. It was just me and Fatty carrying the bones of Li Gui's mother straight to the Eastern Suburb Foundry. Qin Ye mentioned that he was pretending to be insane to avoid a calamity known as the Vicious Dog calamity.
My friends, remember to eat less of what you shouldn't eat. Dog meat is indeed delicious, but it's not something you can eat casually. The mediumship nature of dogs is best avoided; otherwise, you'll end up like Qin Ye—normal people wouldn't dare to act like that and can only pretend to be mad. How embarrassing that would be!
Enough chit-chat; it was crucial to head straight to the Iron Foundry to meet Li Gui.
