Chapter 08: Supernatural Growth (Nine) 0

The chubby guy winked at me, his eyes sparkling as he whispered, "Brother Qi, he's insisting on finding you. We could make a fortune." 0

"Forget it, don't get any weird ideas," I muttered under my breath. The chubby guy didn't dare say more and stepped back, clutching the strap of his bag. 0

Chi Ruiqiang approached, relieved to see I hadn't left. He forced a smile and said, "If my previous attitude towards you was inappropriate, I apologize. However, I have an unreasonable request; I would like you to help me look into Chiang." 0

"Mr. Chi, the reason I didn't call you Uncle is that I didn't want you to misunderstand or hurt Chi Xinrong's feelings. So it's better if I just call you Mr. Chi. I'm really unable to help you with this matter; please seek someone else. I'm sorry, but I have other things to attend to." 0

I smiled apologetically and turned to stride toward the exit. Behind me, I heard Chi Ruiqiang curse, "Tch, what's so great about him? Acting all high and mighty like he's something special—just a lousy con artist." 0

I thought to myself that while I might be a con artist, at least I had some humanity, unlike some people whose nature was so vile they were no different from beasts. 0

He probably wouldn't understand those words anyway; it would be a waste to say them out loud. Ignoring him for now, I needed to return to the Funeral Home. Han Mi was still waiting for me, and the chubby guy was fuming over Chi Ruiqiang's insults. 0

"What a jerk! He called us con artists." 0

"Stop making a fuss here. Honestly, are you still gambling? Otherwise, why would you care so much about money?" 0

"Brother Qi, with you around, how could I dare?" The chubby guy swore earnestly, "If I gamble again, you can chop off my hands." 0

"Alright then, I'll take your word for it." We got into the car and watched as the scattered relatives of the Chi family trickled out before we managed to gather enough people for one vehicle and set off first. 0

When we returned to Ma Wu Funeral Home, Han Mi had already been waiting for a while. Upon seeing me, she smiled demurely and took a step forward before stopping. The chubby guy grinned at her; she politely nodded back with a smile. As she watched him enter the house, she hurriedly said, "A girl came looking for you at Han Family Village and then came to my house. She came here with me but left when you didn't return..." 0

"What?" As she spoke, I grabbed her hand and pulled her inside. She frowned and quickly withdrew her hand, wiping it vigorously. 0

"Brother Qi, your hand is so slippery; did you put something on it?" 0

"No," I said, extending my hand for her to see. I continued to press her about what that woman had said. 0

"You're her boyfriend, and she hasn't seen you in a long time. She really misses you." 0

"You're silly. How could that be? That woman is clearly just teasing you. Did you really fall for it? How foolish." 0

As I spoke, she looked closely, lowering her head to examine my arm. Then, with concern, she grabbed my forearm. "What is this?" 0

On my arm, for some reason, it had been itching a lot lately. I couldn't help but scratch it, and I had broken the skin. The scratched area was white with faint lines, and my entire arm was peeling. Not only that, but my body was also itchy, with peeling skin wherever I had scratched. 0

I felt embarrassed to show anyone, so when I was alone, I would hide in the bathroom and look in the mirror. 0

I knew snakes shed their skin, but what did it mean for a person to do so? 0

Moreover, the peeling areas were accompanied by a sharp pain that felt like it was digging deep into my bones. My impatience with Chi Ruiqiang's incessant chatter was related to this discomfort. 0

Now that Mi had noticed, I couldn't hide it anymore. I decided to tell her the truth about how unwell I had been feeling lately. 0

"Could this be a skin disease?" Mi seemed unconcerned about earlier and focused intently on my arm, her face filled with worry. 0

"I'm not sure, but it really hurts." As I spoke, a tearing pain in my back made me wince. 0

"Come inside; let me take a look." 0

Fatty was organizing inventory in the store. When he saw Mi and me walking in one after the other, a complex expression crossed his chubby face before he quickly returned to his tasks. Mi and I entered the room, and I revealed my arm to her. 0

"What happened to your eye?" The attentive Mi noticed blood at the corner of my eye and looked at me with genuine concern; it was quite endearing. I couldn't help but pull her into an embrace. In my arms, she felt like a delicate white rabbit, shifting slightly as she shyly lowered her gaze and whispered, "You're so bad." 0

I raised my hand and gently brushed her lovely nose. "If I'm not bad, would you still like me?" 0

Perhaps the aura around me put her under pressure. She pressed her lips tightly together, turning her head away, looking both attached yet shy, her hands resting against my chest as if to resist my further advances. Before I could make a move, two petals quickly brushed past her cheeks, filled with surprise, astonishment, sweetness, and warmth. She had already slipped away, giggling. 0

How adorable Mi is! With her bringing me joy, the pain in my body felt trivial. 0

It had been a long time since I felt this happy. I really wanted to catch her and savor the gentle fragrance that emanated from her. I pretended to be fierce and lunged at her, but she nimbly dodged and reached for the door. 0

I blocked the doorway with my body and laughed, "In this game, whoever runs out the door is breaking the rules." 0

It was just the two of us in the room. 0

She was stunningly beautiful, like a blooming flower. She was so captivating that I truly wanted to—just as I was about to play with Mi again, an inexplicable sharp pain shot through my face. Han Mi let out a piercing scream. 0

And then there was nothing more. She dashed out the door, leaving me stunned and struggling to suppress the pain in my face as I chased after her. 0

As I ran out of the house, I bumped into Fatty who was coming in to check on things. He looked like he had seen a ghost and turned tail to run. 0

What happened to them? 0

Confused, I turned back to look in the mirror. When I saw my reflection, my hair stood on end in shock—was that person in the mirror really me? 0

A thin layer of transparent skin covered my face, with capillaries clearly visible beneath it. What was happening to me? I felt like I was about to lose my mind. Gritting my teeth against the pain, I slowly began to peel away this transparent skin. The skin separated from the facial muscles bit by bit, and what lay beneath terrified me. 0

My skin resembled that of a snake, adorned with colorful dark patterns! 0

I staggered back a few steps. Was this Supernatural Growth? Or had I fallen victim to some Evil Arts? The thought of Evil Arts brought one name to mind—Li Gui. Li Gui was an Evil Sorcerer; it would be easy for him to harm someone. 0

It had to be him. 0

Ever since visiting Li Gui, I had felt unwell upon returning—sharp pain and itching all over. 0

Han Mi was scared off by me; she wouldn't come back. Even the chubby ones were afraid of me like this. I sat down on the ground in frustration and helplessness, grabbing a stool and throwing it violently at the mirror. 0

With a loud crash, the mirror shattered into countless pieces, scattering across the floor. 0

The monster in the mirror was gone, but without the mirror, my heart sank. 0

Am I going to die? Am I going to follow in Grandpa's footsteps? Damn, this is just too unworthy. I haven't even touched a woman, yet I was thinking about having a child with one. I had repeatedly told myself that I must not let my child suffer. 0

But I never expected to end up like this! 0

"Ah... ah ah ah ah ah..." I let out a desperate scream, my voice hoarse from shouting. The open window vibrated with a buzzing sound. 0

Suddenly, warm and gentle arms wrapped around me from behind, and a sobbing voice said, "Brother Qi, it's okay. No matter what you become, I'll be with you for life." 0
