Chapter 109: Dead Loop (Seventeen) 0

I was still able to see, what did this mean? It meant I was still alive, and being alive felt wonderful! 0

But the next moment, that feeling vanished. I wanted to pull my hand away, to raise it high for help from the feet in front of me. Unfortunately, I couldn't lift my hand at all; even the slightest movement sent pain shooting through me, a pain that felt like it penetrated to the bone. Every inch of me was bleeding and sweating, overwhelmed by despair and an agony I had never experienced before. 0

I crawled slowly toward those feet. What had happened to me? My legs dragged behind me, leaving bloody trails on the ground. The parts of my body that had been crushed by the car were mangled and broken. There was also a part of my waist and legs that seemed severed; otherwise, my legs wouldn't have been dragging behind as I crawled forward. 0

Strangely enough, as I moved, I didn't feel that excruciating pain that made one think of death. 0

Finally, I reached those feet. Unable to move my limbs, I pressed my bloodied face against them. The feet were cold, devoid of warmth, unlike human feet. With slow determination, I lifted my head to look at their owner. 0

The owner of those feet was a girl of about two or three years old. Her round corpse-like face had a pair of pale eyes, her body stiff as she faced me while cradling a blonde doll in her arms. 0

Behind the girl stood rows of people, a dark mass that gave off an eerie feeling. 0

These people had expressionless faces, gray and lifeless, resembling an exaggerated black-and-white photograph. In the photo were unfamiliar faces—men and women alike—until finally, I spotted a familiar one: it was the driver uncle. 0

The same driver uncle who had shown me death in the driver's seat, his expression blank and eyes hollow as he stared ahead. I was certain he wasn't looking at me but at the girl. Then I saw Chiang; next to him was someone who looked remarkably like Uncle Lin—he was Lin Tai! 0

At that moment, it felt as if I were in a funeral home! Facing all these dead faces so closely, the chilling atmosphere enveloped me, making me forget what had just happened to me. 0

All I felt was sheer terror! Dread! A bone-chilling fear! 0

“Do you feel the fear of death now?” The girl's childish voice carried an eerie tone as if she were whispering in my ear; even my earlobe felt cold and painful. 0

I weakly lifted my head; for the first time, I sensed how close death was to me, filling my heart with immense panic and dread. I opened my mouth but couldn't speak. The girl slowly crouched down and gently stroked my head: “Mind your own business.” The moment we touched felt like coming into contact with ice—so cold, so very cold. Her chilling voice seemed to come from the depths of hell, sending shivers down my spine. 0

I shouted, "No!" 0

"Ah, finally awake," someone sighed in relief, and then I felt something cold being applied to my backside. Instinctively, I pushed back, causing someone to stumble and curse, "Is he out of his mind?" Slowly opening my eyes, I saw a nurse on the floor with a cotton swab in her hand. She looked annoyed yet helpless as she got up and explained, "I'm giving you an injection for inflammation and pain relief." 0

Now fully awake, I realized I was in a hospital because of Chi Xinrong's reckless driving. The door on my side of the car hadn’t been closed properly, or perhaps it was for another reason; in any case, I had rolled out of the car. Everything else was a blur; all I remembered after losing consciousness was the pain in my legs. Nervously, I shivered and reached down to touch them. As I did so, a sharp pain shot through my hand; the nurse gasped, "What are you doing? You've knocked the needle out! Look, it's still bleeding." 0

I wasn't dead. My legs were still there, but blood gushed from my hand, leaving the nurse flustered as she scrambled to stop the bleeding and reinsert the needle. Yet, I found myself grinning foolishly. The dream I had earlier was a warning! 0

It also served as a wake-up call. 0

Chiang's death wasn’t caused by the leukemia girl’s spirit; it was that girl from Hongqiao Supermarket who inflicted the pain I felt so deeply. But what about those standing behind her? This wasn’t the time to dwell on those thoughts; I needed to find out how Chi Xinrong and that chubby guy were doing. 0

"You’re still smiling? You have no idea—your girlfriend has been crying her eyes out. If we hadn’t persuaded her to leave, she would have stayed here." 0

Mila came? That couldn’t be; Han's parents had already cut ties with her. They wouldn’t easily agree to let her come see me. I asked the nurse, "What does she look like?" 0

"Very pretty, but she’s quite fiery and has a strong personality." 0

Chi Xinrong! 0

"No, she’s not my girlfriend. But how is she? And what about that chubby guy? Where is he now?" 0

The nurse finished organizing the treatment equipment and muttered, "They both left without any issues... with that girl." 0

Watching the nurse leave made me feel dejected. They had left the hospital and returned home without me? Alone here, I felt a wave of loneliness wash over me. Habitually picking up my phone, I dialed Mila’s number but stopped myself with a bitter smile. It was late at night; we had just parted ways not long ago. I didn’t want to worry her by having her come all this way to see me. 0

Sighing! Well, it was better this way; they had left, allowing me some quiet time to think about everything that had happened recently. Honestly, I really disliked being in hospitals. Even getting an injection terrified me; I couldn’t stand the various smells in here either. Despite stuffing tissue up my nose, I could still catch whiffs of it all. 0

Lying on the hospital bed, unable to do anything, I picked up my phone only to find it dead. The nurse hadn’t come in, and boredom overwhelmed me. I decided to get up, pulled off the monitoring device from my finger, and walked barefoot out of the room. 0

It was deep into the night; the nurse was dozing off, and the doctor was asleep. In the ward, some patients were snoring while others were trapped in nightmares, struggling to escape their torment. Only I couldn’t sleep at all, so I stepped out of the ward. The empty corridor was eerily quiet, with white walls and bright lights casting a pale glow on the floor. 0

In the distance, faint footsteps echoed, sending a shiver down my spine. 0

Was it a nurse or a doctor making rounds? I had no interest in checking; I just wanted to reach the end of the corridor and catch a breath of fresh air. At the end of the corridor stood a large square Black Frame, through which cool breezes flowed in. 0

I dragged my shadow closer to the Black Frame with hesitant steps. It resembled a Portrait frame, except it lacked an actual Portrait. Realizing this made me feel uneasy; I was scaring myself! 0

To my left was a dead end, where the Staircase led downstairs. I had a nagging feeling that something lurked there. I wasn’t afraid of ghosts; rather, ever since I lost my Soul Stone again, my judgment and intuition had dulled significantly. 0

As I approached the Black Frame, my initial intention was simply to breathe fresh air and alleviate my frustration. However, once I reached this spot, I found myself unable to move any further, captivated by this small space where fresh air seemed so elusive. 0
