Chapter 15: Dimensional Space (Part One)
The water in the bathtub rippled, and Chi Xinrong was gone from my arms, along with Han Mi, who was nowhere to be found. The water valve at the top of the bathtub continued to flow, its sound monotonous and ethereal. Even when I turned off the valve, the dripping sound echoed clearly in the silence of the room.
Instinctively, I reached out again to forcefully adjust the water valve, and finally, the dripping ceased. The room was too quiet. I got up barefoot, my body still damp and leaving wet marks on the floor.
A familiar sensation washed over me, an eerie atmosphere that lingered after the mediumship experience.
I wasn't quite familiar with this space that had emerged due to the mediumship, but the faintly familiar scent in the air lured me step by step toward the door.
Marble floor tiles, high-end three-dimensional wallpaper, luxurious decorations, and a crystal chandelier. Everything felt strange to me; I had never imagined I would find myself in such an extravagant environment.
The shimmering silk blanket lay across a well-lit bedroom that made me feel so small. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows was a lush green landscape. In another bathroom, I could hear the sound of water splashing—someone was taking a shower?
Things were becoming bizarre. I had been holding Chi Xinrong in the bathtub when I accidentally kicked Han Mi, causing a splash that soaked both Han Mi and Fatty. The water mediumship had drawn them into this supernatural circle that was meant to be mine alone.
So what I saw before me wasn't real.
Without a doubt, it was Han Mi taking a shower in the bathroom. I hoped it was false; yet I also wished it were true. If Han Mi and I could share such a wonderful space together, I would be satisfied for life.
I stood there like a wooden statue as the bathroom door opened. I could imagine Han Mi's blissful smile as she gazed at my back with affectionate eyes. I didn't turn around—what was I afraid of? I heard the soft shuffle of slippers and faint breathing. My body stiffened as I suddenly turned to look at her.
She had an alluring figure, her long, bare legs exposed outside her bathrobe and her curves captivating my heart. But she wasn't Han Mi; she was Chi Xinrong.
Something must have gone wrong.
"No, this isn't real."
"Brother Qi, what's wrong? It's me! Don't you remember what happened between us last night?"
She stepped closer. I quickly backed away, waving my hands. "No, you're wrong, completely wrong." Ignoring her calls, I dashed into the bathroom. Once inside, I was stunned; the bathroom was empty, devoid of a bathtub and spotless, with only the sink remaining. The faucet dripped steadily, producing a soft sound.
I stepped back, and two hands firmly wrapped around my waist. Without turning around, I could feel her face pressing against me.
"Brother Qi, let's get married! I'm already carrying your child." As she spoke, Chi Xinrong's soft body pressed tightly against my back, making it hard for me to move. "Brother Qi, can you feel him? He's moving..."
Yes, I felt it. There was indeed something moving inside her belly, a gentle flutter that felt like a baby's hand gliding. For a moment, I was lost in the illusion of reality, desperately searching for any memories of moments that could have happened with Chi Xinrong.
No!
Nothing ever happened between us. The only two women I've been with are Han Mi and Zhou Mengyao; Chi Xinrong was not one of them.
"Brother Qi, I love you!" Her hands skillfully embraced me as her body pressed even closer. I could hear the rhythmic beating of her heart from her chest.
No, she can't be real. I forced myself to suppress the changes happening within me and turned to face her directly. She looked incredibly shy; a pregnant woman could be so enchanting, like a blooming lotus flower captivating the heart. I glanced down at her belly; beneath the thin silk robe, there was a slight curve.
"Brother Qi, can you give him a name?" Chi Xinrong gently caressed her abdomen, looking at me with happiness and warmth in her eyes. For just a fleeting second, I felt a stir in my heart. Isn't this how life is lived? Everything before me seemed so tempting: a beautiful woman, a happy family, and this luxurious home.
But unfortunately, this isn't what I want.
I grabbed Chi Xinrong's shoulders and demanded, "Who are you? Who are you?"
"I am your wife. What's wrong? Have you forgotten me after just one night?" She looked at me with a face full of grievances, her eyes misty and surprised.
"No, you can't fool me. This is all a lie," I replied firmly.
Chi Xinrong lowered her head sadly and said softly, "If you don't believe me, I'll call Mi to tell you."
The name Mi held special significance for me, and I was taken aback. "Mi is here too?"
"Yes, and her husband as well."
"But isn't Mi's husband me?"
"Don't be ridiculous; they'll laugh at you if they hear that."
Just then, someone approached us, bowing respectfully and asking, "Sir, madam, are you ready to eat?" The voice and figure were so familiar.
"Lift your head," I commanded the woman in front of me.
She raised her head to look at me.
I was shocked; she was Zhou Mengyao!
Everything was in chaos.
My mind went blank, unsure of what would happen next when a sweet voice called out, "Brother-in-law, sister, why aren't you coming? I'm starving!"
"Mi?" I avoided Chi Xinrong and headed straight for the person who called out.
A girl in a plain lace dress stared at me with her bright, wide eyes.
"Brother-in-law, did you call me?" She was Han Mi.
"Are you Mi?"
"Brother-in-law, what's going on? I'm Mi! I'm here to eat; I'm so hungry." She acted as if there was really something between us, swinging her ponytail as she walked towards the living room.
I followed behind Mi, with Chi Xinrong and Zhou Mengyao trailing after me.
Everything felt like a dream. It was more like a carefully set illusion, leaving me confused about what was real and what was fake.
In the living room, a colorful giant python coiled up on the floor. A chubby-faced man with his back to me was playing with the python, which seemed to be his pet. Judging by his silhouette, the man playing with the python was Bad Boy Zhu Pang.
"Pang."
I called out to him. He turned to look at me and made a shushing gesture, saying, "Pang is about to fall asleep; don't wake it up."
I was stunned.
Pang is a giant python?
"Who do you think it is? Look how chubby and cute it is!"
It seems like I used to be fat, and now he uses it as a metaphor for this giant python. I'm truly at a loss for words.
As Chi Xinrong said, it's time to eat now that everyone is here.
Han Mi is Chi Xinrong's sister here, and the fat guy is the giant python. Zhu Dachang, who used to be overweight, loves pets and is wealthy; he is also Mi's fiancé. Zhou Mengyao is the housekeeper of Chi Xinrong's family, and I am Chi Xinrong's husband, the future father.
I recognize everyone sitting around the table; only their identities have changed. Zhu Dachang is very rich, which reflects the most accurate thoughts about the psychology of being overweight in the real world. Mi wants to marry a wealthy man, but it's not her desire; it's her family's wish for her to marry someone rich.
Zhou Mengyao has lived a hard life; she is both a housekeeper and a protective older sister.
And that giant python feels strangely familiar, yet I can't recall where I've seen it before.
