Chapter 178: Five Ghosts - Soul Gathering Technique

There were cries and laughter; some were clawing at walls while others flew around me. Whoosh—whoosh—a chilling breeze struck my face and body; my fingers felt as if they were about to freeze. The warmth within me was dissipating; I could not afford to continue wasting energy like this.
I tried hard to block out the ghostly wails surrounding me and sat cross-legged once more. In the darkness, the Five Ghosts lunged at me with claws bared. In a moment of urgency, I formed hand seals and recited the Nine Character Mantra: “Approaching warriors all array before.”
A series of explosive sounds erupted as the ghostly wails abruptly ceased. A dull pain throbbed in my chest from overexertion. Just as I gently touched my chest and attempted to rise, creaking sounds emerged from the darkness as if something was crawling out of a coffin.
I quickly activated Demon Eyes to look—standing upright from the coffin was a figure with disheveled hair and a thin frame resembling a bamboo pole. Is he Li Gui? I had expected someone from the coffin to be Monkey Spirit but was taken aback to find it was Li Gui.
Fighting Li Gui would undoubtedly lead to my defeat.
Yet I still bore through the pain in my chest and drew out the Seven Star Copper Coins again in preparation for battle. However, I was mistaken. The creature crawling out of the coffin appeared even more terrifying than an ancient corpse buried for thousands of years; its body oozed with pus and blood, its eyes bulging like light bulbs filled with white. One wrist hung limply, half-broken yet intact, with claws sharp as knives.
As I chanted the spell and drew out the Copper Coin Sword, this thing lunged at me with incredible speed. I quickly dodged, and after a sound of shattering, I felt a chill in my arm, a faint stinging sensation. There was no time to look; the creature lunged at me again.
I evaded it, ready to counterattack, when suddenly something cold wrapped around my legs. Looking down, I was taken aback. The Five Ghosts had appeared on the ground, clinging to my legs. How could I possibly break free? I tried to lift my right foot but couldn't move it; the same went for my left. My legs felt as if they were pinned down by a thousand-pound stone.
On top of that, my body felt inexplicably weak and powerless. The monster seized the opportunity and knocked me down. A foul stench assaulted my nose as I caught sight of its eyes—bloodshot and festering. A maggot fell from its face onto mine as it grinned wickedly, its body wrapping around me like a spider's web, rendering me immobile.
I finally managed to break free and jump away, but the monster remained unfazed. Turning around, I was stunned to realize that I had—my soul had left my body. The real me was still on the ground, helplessly watching as the monster encroached upon me.
