Chapter 0: Love is Blind 0

"Mm." I gazed at her with eyes full of affection, admiring her gentle demeanor and that half-smile on her face. Suddenly, I had a new realization: my Mi resembled the movie star Liu Yifei, truly captivating with every smile and tender gesture. 0

Damn, this is love being blind! 0

I called to inform Chi Xinrong that Han Mi was at Ma Wu Funeral Home. She didn't believe me, thinking I was just boasting, as if Han Mi had gone mad. So, I had Mi answer the phone and talk to Chi Xinrong. Only then did that stubborn girl truly believe me, and after a while, she came to pick up Han Mi. 0

After safely sending Han Mi away, I felt a sense of relief, but I couldn't shake the feeling that Mi seemed to have something to say to me before she left but held back. I wondered if something had happened to her during the time we were apart, like when Spirit Snake had taken her far away from Han Family Village. 0

But what were the odds of running into her at home while she was on a blind date? 0

It was undeniable that Han Mi's father was terminally ill. Just before at their house, he looked so weak and his face was ashen, which spoke volumes. 0

As night fell, I called Chi Xinrong again. "Mi is doing well; she just finished showering and is watching TV." She teased me with a hint of jealousy, "Ma Qi, since you can't bear to part with her, why did you call me to take her away? Wouldn't it be better for you two to enjoy the night together?" 0

"Go away; don't be ridiculous. I have principles." 0

"Well, if it were me in your shoes, I would never leave your side. If you let her go tonight, won't you end up restless and seeking comfort from some widow?" 0

Chi Xinrong's words caught me off guard; it seemed she knew about my situation with Zhou Mengyao. 0

When I didn't respond, she let out a self-deprecating laugh. "You men are truly terrible—always wanting what’s in the bowl while thinking about what's in the pot. Do you know why Mi has changed? It's because she found out about you and Zhou Mengyao." 0

"And what does she think of you?" 0

"What do you think?" For some reason, I suddenly regretted letting Mi go to Chi Xinrong's place. That stubborn girl—who knows what she's really thinking? 0

I wanted to say more, but Chi Xinrong hung up on me. Now I was feeling a bit annoyed as I walked into the house, where Fatty was still fixated on my promise to introduce him to beautiful women. 0

"Brother Qi, you're not talking about introducing me to your sister-in-law, are you?" 0

"What nonsense are you spouting?" I snapped at Fatty, who looked taken aback as I turned away. "The beauty is right behind you." It was meant as a joke, but unexpectedly, Yu had quietly appeared in the corner just half a meter away from Fatty. 0

Fat couldn't see Yu. 0

Yu walked up to Fat, reached out, and twisted his earlobe hard. 0

The sudden pain startled Fat, and he cried out in terror, "Ouch, ouch! Brother Qi, something strange... can you see who it is?" 0

I looked at Yu and shouted, "Yu, stop messing with him." 0

Yu stopped but remained invisible to Fat. 0

Fat's ear no longer hurt, and the cheeky guy became defiant, saying, "What Yu? Brother Qi, it's clearly you causing trouble!" 0

"Is that so?" I sneered. "Yu, pull down his pants." 0

Fat was shocked and instinctively covered his groin. As he did so, the buckle of his belt slipped off. I couldn't tell what he felt, but his face turned pale as he desperately tried to hold onto his groin. It didn't help; his pants slid down quickly as if an invisible hand had yanked them down. Terrified, Fat let out a yelp and jumped up to run, but his pants tripped him up, causing him to stumble forward and fall flat on his face. 0

"Brother Qi, you..." 0

"It wasn't me; I don't have time for that." I yawned and walked into the house, closing the door behind me to prepare for a long sleep. After waking up, I planned to perform a ritual for Yu and deal with the wandering souls on Cobblestone Street. Then I would bleed my inventory dry to bribe the Ghostly Enforcer. 0

Once inside, lying on the bed felt heavenly. It had been so long since I had a good night's sleep; now I needed to make up for lost time. As soon as my head hit the pillow, my eyelids grew heavy and finally closed. 0

Then I saw a beautiful kite soaring high in the sky. Strangely, there was no rice in sight. Instead, I saw many Black Dots rushing toward the kite. A bad feeling washed over me; these Black Dots seemed ominous. 0

Despite my dreadful premonition, I could only watch as the Black Dots charged toward the beautiful Eagle Kite. 0

In an instant, the Eagle Kite appeared to don a black cloak and began plummeting from the sky. 0

This scene was too bizarre; even though I knew it was a dream, I felt a chill at the back of my head as if an unbreathing mouth was blowing cold air on me. In the blink of an eye, the skeleton of the Eagle Kite fell like a meteorite. Without its beautiful exterior, the Eagle Kite lost its grandeur and drooped downwards. I rushed over and grabbed hold of it while looking at those Black Dots. They formed a swirling black vortex that quickly vanished. 0

I looked down at the skeleton of the Eagle Kite and was taken aback; this wasn't the skeleton of a kite at all—it was clearly Yu's white bones. The bones crumbled like vines I once held in my hands, instantly turning to Ashes between my fingers—Ashes that slipped away at the slightest touch. 0

I was jolted awake by a sudden shock. Instinctively, I jumped out of bed and rushed outside, desperate to see if Yu's corpse was alright. However, as I burst out of my bedroom, I was met with an unbelievable sight. 0

My grandfather sat at the table with his back to me, eating. I could still vividly recall how he liked to eat. He would scoop up a bowl of dry porridge and somehow manage to extract half a bowl of water from it; even when he ate dry rice, it seemed to have some moisture. In truth, I knew that was just his saliva. 0

Then it struck me—this couldn't be real. I was dreaming; my grandfather had long since passed away. How could he possibly be alive and sitting right in front of me? I stepped back, closed the door, and shut my eyes, telling myself, "When I open my eyes, I'll definitely be in bed." 0

I counted silently to myself: one, two, three—then opened my eyes. I stood by the door, the room was quiet. My hand rested on the doorknob as I reminded myself, "None of this exists anymore; Grandpa has long left us. He once told me that life is not something one can control; even in death, one can still make their own choices." 0

According to the Five Elements Method, the cycle of creation and destruction goes like this: Metal generates Water, Water generates Wood, Wood generates Fire, Fire generates Earth, and Earth generates Metal; while Metal restrains Wood, Wood restrains Earth, Earth restrains Water, Water restrains Fire, and Fire restrains Metal. He was incompatible with Fire; after a hundred years, he could not be cremated. Having seen too many corpses devoured by snakes and insects until only a pile of bones remained with wormholes left behind, he refused burial in the ground and ultimately chose to lie in a coffin as a desiccated corpse. 0

I opened the door to witness a scene that no one would want to believe. My grandfather sat there in black clothes and pants as before; on his left was me, and on his right was a fat figure. What was this extra version of me doing here? Frustrated, I stepped out cautiously. 0

Then I found myself standing behind my grandfather, able to hear the sounds of him swallowing his food. The noise drove me mad; uncontrollably, I reached out to touch him. As my fingers made contact with his body, I felt an icy chill and heard a strange sound like wings fluttering. Then an odd scene unfolded before my eyes. 0
