Chapter 5: Killing Li Gui 0

When the time was right, I performed the incantation and summoned the Eighteen Cubes. I recited the Five Thunder Exorcism spell: "Five Thunder Three Thousand Generals, countless thunder soldiers, flames burning across the four realms, evil spirits turned to dust, in front of the Vermilion Bird, behind the Black Tortoise, to the left the Azure Dragon, to the right the White Tiger. I summon the Six Ding and Six Jia, Southern Dipper Six Stars, Big Dipper Seven Stars. I invoke the Nine Responses of the Primordial Thunder Sound Universal Decree and the Urgent Command of Taishang Laojun." 0

The Eighteen Cubes suddenly emitted a sharp sound that startled me. Then, beams of brilliant light filled the room; anything touched by this light instantly turned to smoke and vanished, including Li Gui. 0

He was enveloped in smoke, his face grotesquely rotting away to reveal a terrifying skeletal form. 0

"Qin Jian dagger." 0

The Qin Jian responded immediately, flying straight toward Li Gui. 0

Thud— 0

The dagger pierced Li Gui's heart. He opened his mouth wide, spewing forth fire and smoke as he ignited completely. A dark Shadow was sucked into the Eighteen Cubes. As it was drawn in, I seemed to hear a hoarse laugh: "Ma Qi, I will return." Seriously? Last year I bought a watch and now I'm quoting lines from Bat Hero. 0

Just then, Mi, Chi Xinrong, and Fatty rushed in. They were greeted by the sight of a burning skeleton on the ground, a foul smell of charred flesh permeating the air. 0

"Brother Qi, what happened?" 0

Seeing Mi's anxious expression, I clapped my hands nonchalantly and shrugged: "Nothing happened." I winked at Qin Jian. 0

Qin Jian was examining the dagger in his hand. 0

Indeed, it was thanks to Qin Jian that we managed to kill Li Gui; he had pierced Li Gui's heart with this dagger. 0

That line: "Ma Qi, I will return," was merely an attempt to save face; he might already be sent down to the Eighteen Layers of Hell. 0

"Ma Qi, here’s your dagger." Qin Jian sheathed the dagger and handed it back to me. 0

I smiled and said, "This dagger has finally found its owner; it belongs to you." 0

It was clear that Qin Jian cherished the dagger. He handed it to me with a reluctant yet affectionate expression, and seeing my disbelief, he asked in surprise and delight, "What makes you so sure this dagger is mine?" 0

"Because it recognizes its master. I couldn't draw it, but you managed to pull it from its sheath. Plus, I saw a flash of light revealing the character 'Qin'." 0

Qin Jian's demeanor turned serious. Although he still wore an unapproachable expression, his eyes sparkled with joy as he examined the dagger closely. The more he looked at it, the more he liked it. Finally, he politely said, "Thank you, Ma Qi." 0

"We're buddies, forever." 0

"And me too," the fat guy squeezed in, forcibly separating me from Qin Jian as he positioned himself in the middle. 0

Mi and Chi Xinrong couldn't help but laugh. The latter suddenly slapped his forehead and reminded me, "Ma Qi, what are you laughing about? Weren't we supposed to save that child? Come on, let's go check it out." 0

Mentioning the child reminded me of Wei Chenggang's words about the hidden passage. He had spoken of things we couldn't see that had left through that secret route. Whether this unseen thing was Li Gui or something else remained unknown. 0

In any case, Li Gui had underestimated us this time and paid a heavy price. He thought I, Ma Qi, was still the naive fool from years ago who could be easily captured and turned into his puppet for him to control and enslave. Little did he know that not only was I not so easy to deal with anymore, but Qin Jian had also acquired a rare treasure—a short-bladed Exorcism dagger—to assist me. 0

"Ma Qi, what about this dagger?" Qin Jian was still preoccupied with the dagger's significance. He was curious to know the story behind its recognition of its master. 0

My master truly had good intentions. 0

Was face really that important? So much so that he didn't want to acknowledge his own flesh and blood but instead used my connection to send a dagger to him? In front of Mi, Chi Xinrong, and the fat guy, could I reveal that Qin Ye was Qin Jian's biological father? 0

Qin Jian was someone who valued face; he was a product of pure genetic inheritance from my master. 0

"This dagger is yours now; from this moment on, it will always be yours. Consider it a testament to our brotherhood." I still refrained from revealing that Qin Ye was his father and offered Qin Jian a kind lie instead. 0

“Thank you, Ma Qi. I really like this dagger; it feels like we have a connection.” 0

“Hmm, that’s good. Take good care of it.” 0

“Thanks.” Qin Jian put away the dagger and called out to Fatty, “Are you all going to the hospital?” 0

“I’ll stay; you all go.” I wanted to send them away so I could examine the secret chamber closely. 0

In my opinion, there might still be secrets in the chamber that I didn’t know about. Grandpa became a puppet of Li Gui, and now that Li Gui was finished, he was too. That coffin absolutely had to go; it attracted evil. 0

Qin Jian, Chi Xinrong, and Fatty left. 0

Mi insisted on staying, and I couldn’t force her to leave, so I nodded in agreement for her to stay. 0

Not long after they left, I took Mi into the secret chamber. 0

“Brother Qi, what else do you want to investigate?” 0

“Listen carefully; I need to lie in the coffin one more time. You stay up here and keep watch. If anything unusual happens, knock on the coffin and wake me up.” After handing her the Eighteen Cubes, I lay down in the coffin. I thought this time I would definitely see the Ghostly Flower again, but after lying there for a while without feeling any changes, I opened my eyes to blinding light. 0

I was shocked; clearly, I was lying in the coffin—how did I end up in this place? This feeling left me bewildered; I couldn’t distinguish between day and night or tell what time it was. All I saw was a beautiful scene with blue and white clouds under a bright sun, yet I felt no warmth. 0

On the ground, vast fields of purple flowers swayed in the wind, accompanied by laughter and someone calling for me. 0

“Brother Qi, come on! Look how high it flies!” 0

It was a kite! 0

The kite string was in Mi's hands as she ran joyfully, laughing and jumping. 0

I leaned forward, confused and somewhat disbelieving of what my eyes were seeing. I rubbed my eyes vigorously and focused again; it was indeed Mi who was running, and the kite soaring into the sky was indeed the Eagle Kite, fluttering in the wind, rising higher and higher until it seemed to vanish. 0

Suddenly, a sense of unease washed over me, prompting me to crawl after Mi. 0

"Mi, wait for me!" 0

"Brother Qi, come on! Hee hee hee, come on!" Mi ran with abandon, her laughter as bright as flowers in early spring. 0

I was mesmerized; when she turned back and smiled, it was enchanting. My heart soared, and I opened my arms wide, leaping toward her to embrace her tightly. 0

"Mi, you finally can't run anymore. You are my Daughter-in-law." 0

"I am your wife." Mi tossed aside the kite and playfully nestled into my arms. Her action of discarding the kite made my heart sink, like dropping a hot potato. I looked at her in surprise and said, "Who are you? You are not my Mi; she would never casually throw away something as beloved as the Eagle Kite." 0
