Chapter 10: The Mist 0

"I don't know how to contact her friends. Ma Qi, are you out of your mind? Did you take your medication today? You seem off!" 0

"Boss, I just saved someone and went to a really scary place. I'm human, not a deity. This body is made of flesh and blood, not a machine." 0

"Okay, my bad. Don't get mad." 0

I crossed my arms and said lazily, "Why are you so sure that she's here and don't want to alert anyone?" 0

Qin Jian, pushed to his limit, opened the car drawer and pulled out a piece of paper, slamming it into my hand. "Look for yourself." 0

I unfolded the paper, but it was blank! I cursed, "What the hell? You show me this after dropping your pants?" 0

Qin Jian grabbed it back, and it was indeed just a blank sheet. 0

"What the hell is this Ghostly Thing?" 0

"Forget about the Ghostly Thing for now. I believe your claim isn't baseless. We’ll find out when we get there." The car had already entered the northern part of the city; we had about twenty minutes left, so I decided to rest for a moment. 0

I closed my eyes, and memories of the hospital flooded my mind: the tall figure, Bao Hui's eyes filled with despair, and those clusters of Evil Spirit Flowers. This was the second time I had seen the Evil Spirit Flowers; she had merged with them. Could it be that her soul was integrated into the Evil Spirit Flowers? 0

"We're here." Qin Jian's loud voice broke my thoughts. The car engine turned off, and silence enveloped us. A vast shadow loomed ahead; darkness stretched endlessly as the bright lights faded away. This was the abandoned warehouse district in the northern part of the city. 0

Once upon a time, this area housed a Cement Factory, a Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant, and a Chemical Plant. 0

Severe environmental pollution led to a political decision that resulted in all non-compliant facilities being relocated or shut down over three years. Thus, this area fell into disrepair and has yet to be redeveloped. Perhaps the person who delivered the note knew something and discreetly passed on the message. 0

Could it be my master? 0

As I got out of the car, this thought suddenly crossed my mind. But then I reconsidered; if my master were here, he would definitely want to discuss this matter with me. 0

Qin Jian closed the car door with a heavy heart and took his gear, while I followed closely behind him. I had to admit, his memory was remarkable; whether or not he had written notes, he moved through the area with a familiarity that suggested he knew it well. 0

We entered a large space and turned on our flashlights. 0

It was a vast workshop filled with rusted scrap metal and overgrown weeds. The air was thick with a confusing mix of odors. At first glance, it seemed eerily quiet; apart from the sound of the wind, the only noise was the faint chirping of insects, indicating no signs of human presence. 0

Qin Jian walked around, filled with suspicion as he examined the surroundings. 0

I moved in the opposite direction, searching carefully. This place had been forgotten and abandoned by people, and the chilling atmosphere sent shivers down my spine. My flashlight beam landed on a spider, which scurried away in fright. As I swept the light downwards, it illuminated a flat figure lying on a wooden board. 0

She sensed our presence and desperately tried to make a sound. 0

Qin Jian and I rushed towards her almost simultaneously, shouting, "Chi Xinrong!" 0

Qin Jian was quicker; he lunged forward and pulled out whatever was stuffed in Chi Xinrong's mouth. She burst into tears, exclaiming, "Wuwu... Why did it take you so long to come?" 0

"It's okay, it's okay," Qin Jian stammered repeatedly. 0

I quickly helped Chi Xinrong to her feet and handed her over to Qin Jian while remaining alert, listening for any unusual sounds around us. The scene was chaotic, but there seemed to be no other abnormalities. 0

"Rongrong, how did you end up here?" 0

Chi Xinrong looked up at the torn plastic roof with a frustrated expression. "I don't know. It feels like I woke up from a dream and found myself here. No one came when I shouted; something was stuffed in my mouth." 0

"Who were you with at first?" 0

"Dengke Qi." Chi Xinrong's face turned pale. I had more questions to ask her, but Qin Jian's furious expression made me hesitate. 0

So it really was Dengke Qi. I took out my compass to check for any supernatural presence but found nothing of value. 0

Qin Jian helped Chi Xinrong out of the abandoned warehouse, where the sky was darkening with ominous clouds. In the distance, the rumble of a train echoed, and I guessed we were not far from the northern freight station. It was already two in the morning. 0

Chi Xinrong looked exhausted, nearly dehydrated. Qin Jian and I took her to City Hospital, and I felt relieved only after we got her settled in a hospital room and started her IV. 0

We sat on the chairs outside the room, smoking in silence, neither of us willing to break the quiet. It wasn't until a nurse came to change the dressing that she asked, "Who is staying with her?" 0

"I will," Qin Jian replied loudly. 0

I smiled, feeling a sense of warmth. Was this his way of confessing? Unfortunately, Chi Xinrong didn’t hear him; she was sleeping soundly. With Qin Jian by her side, she wouldn’t feel lonely or scared; she would feel safe. 0

As for Dengke Qi, I had no idea who he was. All I could do was wait for Chi Xinrong to wake up to find out more. 0

I returned to my rented apartment and collapsed onto the bed, not wanting to move at all. I didn’t wash my feet, my face, or even brush my teeth. I curled up under the covers and fell asleep without realizing it. 0

The more tired one is, the more mental pressure they feel, making unexpected events more likely to occur. 0

I was asleep but somehow aware. 0

I seemed to see Mi; she rested her chin on her hand and gazed at me. I reached out and playfully flicked her nose. She laughed, a sound that startled me like a cartoon doll's voice, causing me to recoil in shock until I found myself at the door. 0

This wasn’t Mi. 0

Yet I stood up uncontrollably, my hand still reaching out as if I wanted to grab her. 0

Mi said nothing; she turned and opened the door. As she did so, she glanced back at me. 0

I followed her out. 0

Strangely enough, this door didn’t lead to my rented apartment but opened into a long corridor. At the end of the corridor was a blinding light, and within that light, it seemed like many people were running. This scene deeply captivated my attention and curiosity. 0

I ran over. 0

Mi disappeared into a sea of white light, a light that seemed familiar, as if someone had told me it was a pure land. 0

I hadn't traveled or seen exotic landscapes, but at that moment, I saw a girl in a bikini with a stunning figure posing provocatively. I walked over. 0

"Excuse me, sir, we're currently shooting the cover for Dream Forest. You can't interrupt us." 0

Dream Forest? 0

It was the first time I had heard that term. 0

Curious, I scanned the area aimlessly, trying to find Mi. 0

A chubby guy was holding a soccer ball, and beside him was a woman, her arm linked with his. It was clear they were a couple. 0
