Chapter 456: Human Skin Puppet (Part Nineteen)
There was no time to explain anything. I waved at Ling Juan and said, "Ling Juan, hurry up and get dressed, come with me."
"Where to?" I ran quickly without answering Ling Juan's last question, sprinting straight towards the fake Ling Juan outside. The cold wind howled, and the ground was covered with fallen leaves, particularly ginkgo leaves, which created a beautiful golden carpet under the lights.
It seemed light-footed yet made no sound as it passed by clusters of ginkgo leaves, stirring up a whirlwind that lifted the leaves into the air, gently swirling them before they slowly descended. The sudden cold wind hit my face, causing me to shiver involuntarily. I shrank my neck at the sight of that shadowy figure drifting away; everything around was pitch black and eerily silent. The scene before me was too strange and sinister, truly a chilling atmosphere that sent shivers down my spine.
Damn, it moved fast. In the blink of an eye, it had already reached the edge of the artificial lawn. I had a feeling it was about to descend into Branching Stream, so I hurriedly chased after it, shouting, "Stop! Who are you..." As I yelled, I sprinted forward. The woman showed no sign of stopping; I took a deep breath and ran with all my might.
I thought to myself: there's no way a woman can outrun me, a big man. I saw her descend the stairs, and at that moment, I had a premonition that she resembled the monster from my dreams.
Focused solely on chasing this fake Ling Juan, I didn't notice if she was following me. Perhaps she was too scared to come out from hiding inside. Watching this fake Ling Juan head towards Branching Stream made me anxious.
I shouted loudly for her to stop and pulled out Eighteen Cubes while chanting the spell: "Five Thunder Three Thousand Generals! Countless thunder soldiers, flames burning across the realms, evil spirits turned to dust! By the command of the Supreme One, may I slay thousands of demons and ghosts! Urgent Command!" With that, I unleashed Five Thunder Palm. This time I was confident; if she were indeed a demon or ghost, she wouldn't be able to withstand my Five Thunder Palm.
Unexpectedly, just as my Five Thunder Palm was about to strike with overwhelming power, the woman in front suddenly stopped and threw me a cold glance over her shoulder. She let my Five Thunder Palm fly toward her as if indifferent. A massive wave of energy tore through her clothing, exposing her pure legs. She stood there motionless; her silhouette gave off an appearance of vulnerability. However, just as I approached and aimed to grab her with Five Thunder Claw, she suddenly spun around.
The woman still bore Ling Juan's face. Despite her torn clothes, she didn't seem angry; instead, she wore an enigmatic smile while staring intently at me. My finger had been aimed at her back but now pointed directly at her chest due to her unexpected turn.
I couldn't be heartless; having torn her clothes revealed her human legs along with those captivating eyes fixed on me.
Reluctantly, I slammed on the brakes just five feet away from her. My Five Thunder Palm was forcibly retracted, causing a sharp pain in my chest that felt quite unpleasant. Suppressing the discomfort in my chest, I asked in a deep voice, "Who are you? I don't want to harm an innocent."
Under my stern questioning, she remained silent, her facial expression oddly enigmatic, resembling both a smile and a sneer. Her soft hair fell loosely around her face, parting to reveal a pale countenance. Strangely, her features bore a striking resemblance to Ling Juan.
If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have risked injuring myself by retracting the Five Thunder Palm.
I approached the conversation cautiously; I had no intention of taking advantage of her vulnerability. Faced with such an overtly beautiful woman, I, Ma Qi, had plenty of composure, especially considering she was an unknown clone.
As I prepared to ask my second question, she suddenly raised her hand slowly to touch her face, her smile widening. After wiping her face with her hand, she extended her arm as if to show me something. I focused intently and nearly recoiled in horror—between her delicate fingers were writhing maggots.
What the hell?
I stepped back in shock. This woman was either not human or some kind of ghost to do something so disgusting. My titanium-coated eyes were nearly blinded by the sight, and I almost fell for her trick. In a split second, before she could wipe her face again, I readied the Eighteen Cubes to subdue her.
To my surprise, she laughed again, and something fell from her face. Looking down, I saw it was more maggots. When I looked up again, she no longer resembled Ling Juan but instead appeared as a lifelike Plastic Model.
"What kind of monster are you?" I shouted angrily, reciting the Exorcism Spell as I stepped forward. However, she had already anticipated my move; as I advanced, her face twisted into an even more sinister grin before she took a large step back and fell into the rushing Branching Stream.
Damn! This was urgent; I couldn't afford to hesitate any longer. I quickly reached out and grabbed her wrist. As my hand clasped around it, a jolt of shock coursed through me—her skin felt human rather than plastic.
In that moment of hesitation due to the force of the current, I struggled to hold on when suddenly there was a sharp rip—her sleeve tore.
"What’s going on?"
"I’m not sure at the moment; you didn’t see her, so it’s pointless for me to explain," I replied anxiously while waiting for Qin Jian to answer his phone and needing to respond to Ling Juan's questions. Thankfully, Lao Qin finally turned on his phone. As soon as the call connected, my first words were: "No matter what, you need to find a way to cut off the water supply from the Riverside Family's Branching Stream; I need to locate something."
Ling Juan listened to my request, her eyes wide open as if she were looking at an alien creature.
Qin Jian asked, "Lao Qi, are you still half asleep?"
"I'm not joking. Lao Qin, I really discovered something tonight," I shot a glance at Ling Juan and walked away, saying, "I'm with Plastic Model at Jiang'an Family Bridgehead Hotpot Restaurant. You need to follow my instructions quickly, or it will be too late."
Just as I was speaking to Qin Jian, a sharp scream came from behind me. It suddenly struck me that Ling Juan was standing at the edge of the stairs. I was startled and covered the microphone, looking toward Ling Juan. But there was no sign of her—had she fallen?
I was so anxious that I felt like jumping down to check. I held the speaker and shouted, "Ling Juan, Juanzi..."
