"I think it's unrealistic. How could a college student possibly be a Taoist?" Qin Keqing firmly believed that no matter how she looked at Ye Chenfeng, he had nothing to do with being a Taoist.
Su Bei said, "Think about what happened last night. Where did Ding Li come from? She can't be a female ghost, can she?"
Shen Binghan chimed in, "Come on, don't scare me. If she's such a beautiful ghost, I want one too."
Qin Keqing replied, "Stop joking. Ding Li has a name and identity; she's definitely Ye Chenfeng's girlfriend. I can guarantee that she has nothing to do with the female ghost you mentioned."
Su Bei stroked her chin and suggested, "How about we make a bet? If Ye Chenfeng can show us a ghost, I'll admit defeat and treat everyone to dinner." As she spoke, she noticed Shen Binghan climbing onto Ye Chenfeng's bed to look for something. "What are you looking for?"
Shen Binghan said, "It's strange; I saw a gourd this big yesterday, but now it's gone." She looked around but still couldn't find it and muttered to herself, "I bet he didn't bring the gourd with him; it must be hidden somewhere else."
"Stop looking; he must be back soon," Qin Keqing kindly reminded her.
Shen Binghan came down feeling frustrated after failing to find the gourd.
Su Bei said there was no need to keep searching. When Ye Chenfeng returned, they could ask him to catch a ghost for them to see. If he couldn't catch one, he would have to treat them to dinner.
Just as San Ya was getting into the conversation, the door opened. A disheveled Ye Chenfeng walked in alone. Seeing him enter by himself, the Three Troublemakers rushed over to search him and demanded he tell them how he knew Ding Li.
Ye Chenfeng maintained a serious expression and said, "Don't mess around; there's still one more person here."
San Ya was taken aback; they exchanged glances, realizing there were only four of them in the room—how could there be another person?
Ye Chenfeng said, "Senior Sister, you can show yourself now!"
At first glance, Shen Binghan looked at Ye Chenfeng's mysterious demeanor, calling out "Senior Sister," feeling anxious as he scanned the room. Indeed, there were only the four of them.
Chen Peiling stood right in front of the three of them. Seeing Shen Binghan looking around nervously, she walked over and blew cold air into his ear, startling him so much that he gasped and shivered, "Who?"
Su Bei and Qin Keqing couldn't help but burst into laughter at Shen Binghan's startled expression. "I really admire you; you just mentioned ghosts and immediately started acting."
Ye Chenfeng called out to the air, "Senior Sister, you can come out now! Let them see you."
With a smile, Chen Peiling revealed herself.
Originally, there were only Ye Chenfeng, Su Bei, Shen Binghan, and Qin Keqing in the room. Suddenly, another person appeared out of nowhere; they hadn't seen her enter. Hearing Ye Chenfeng call "Senior Sister," they guessed it was the Chen Peiling they had discussed the night before.
They were all so shocked that they stood frozen for a moment before finally exclaiming and scrambling back to their beds.
"You all just said you wanted to see a ghost; what are you afraid of?" Ye Chenfeng caught one of them and reached for another. Qin Keqing hurriedly said, "No way, buddy! You're my big brother, right? She... is Chen Peiling, Senior Sister?"
Ye Chenfeng released the trembling Su Bei and said, "Yes, Senior Sister will be here for a while tonight. At nine o'clock, I’ll go out with her to find Ye Feng."
Su Bei was so frightened that he could hardly speak.
Shen Binghan claimed he wasn't afraid but still shrank back, not daring to face Chen Peiling.
Qin Keqing pretended to be unfazed and casually smiled at Chen Peiling. "Ye Chenfeng is really something; both girls are stunning beauties. Senior Sister is a goddess while Ding Li is a little loli. He’s quite lucky."
Chen Peiling's face flushed red as she shot him a glare and laughed softly, "If you like me that much, I'll be your girlfriend." As she spoke, she moved closer to Qin Keqing with an icy aura, causing him to scramble back toward the corner of the bed in fright.
"You three troublemakers, listen up. Senior Sister has someone she loves, and you all need to understand that. If it were just ordinary people joking around, it would be fine, but you can't make jokes about 'her.' One careless mistake could bring trouble," Ye Chenfeng admonished them before retrieving some vermilion powder, Black Dog Blood, and a stack of yellow paper from the box.
"Ye Chenfeng, this is my first time seeing a ghost. Can you let Senior Sister go invisible?" Su Bei asked with a grin. He thought to himself that if he had known, he wouldn't have made this bet. Having a ghost stay in their dormitory was even more outrageous than catching one; now they all had to bear the cost.
Ye Chenfeng nodded and said, "Sure, let's have Senior Sister hang upside down on the ceiling for a bit." He didn't need to say more; Chen Peiling autonomously became invisible, disappearing from sight. With this eerie presence added to their dormitory, the three of them dared not act out of line anymore.
They sat quietly reading or playing on their phones, occasionally glancing around nervously, fearing that Senior Sister might suddenly appear. That would be terrifying.
Ye Chenfeng was reading The Ghost-Quaking Scripture, flipping through the pages carefully. He couldn't help but mutter softly as he wrote: "Heaven and Earth are boundless; winds and thunder obey their command; dragons battle in the wild; all directions are annihilated. Supreme Celestial Master, hasten as the law commands!"
A beam of golden light shot straight up to the ceiling, causing Chen Peiling, who was hanging there, to suddenly fall down right in front of Su Bei—"Ah... ah..." He was so engrossed in his reading that when a cold strand of hair brushed against his face, followed by an eerily beautiful yet pale face appearing before him, he couldn't help but tremble in fear and stumbled backward onto the ground.
It was the spiritual energy from The Ghost-Quaking Scripture that had affected Chen Peiling.
Ye Chenfeng quickly closed The Ghost-Quaking Scripture and helped Su Bei up.
Shen Binghan and Qin Keqing were also quite frightened. They dared not complain or speak much, shrinking their necks and staring blankly at Chen Peiling.
Ye Chenfeng asked Chen Peiling if she was alright; she replied that she was fine but had been startled when she fell. He hurriedly reassured them, "It's my fault for not paying attention earlier; it should be fine now."
Qin Keqing wasn't pleased. "Ye Chenfeng, how long are you going to keep this up? Last night it was Loli causing chaos in the dormitory; today it's a female ghost scaring us. If this continues, we might as well move out and leave you here with the ghost."
Seeing that they were unhappy, Chen Peiling felt a bit embarrassed and sought Ye Chenfeng's opinion on whether they should temporarily step outside until it was time to meet Ye Feng.
There were still about ten minutes left until nine o'clock.
They went out, rather than staying inside.
Ye Chenfeng called out to Chen Peiling, leaving the dormitory to them, and apologetically said, "I’ll go out instead; you all continue having fun."
Chen Peiling walked ahead.
Ye Chenfeng followed behind.
One person and one ghost exited the Boys' Dormitory.
"Where to?" Chen Peiling stopped and sighed. The map of China resembled a rooster, with Purple City located on the central wing.
Purple City University was a tiny place on that wing, hardly bigger than a grain of rice, yet it felt isolated by mountains and rivers. If one were bored, it would take several days to explore every corner, but there was no place for him to stay.
Lost in their thoughts, Chen Peiling remained quiet throughout the journey. Yet amidst the silence, there lingered an almost imperceptible sense of unease.
Ye Chenfeng wanted to find Ye Feng and then head to the Four Hospitals to fulfill Shen Binghan's request so he could deal with the Flame Demon. No, there was still one more he almost forgot—Ghost Granny. The thought of Ghost Granny made him particularly worried about Ding Li.
For some reason, he always associated Ding Li with Ghost Granny.
Caught up in his thoughts, he didn’t hear Chen Peiling’s question.
Chen Peiling, not angry, blew a breath towards him and said, "Ye Daozhang, where are we going now?"
With a cold expression on his face, Ye Chenfeng shivered slightly and replied quietly, "Senior Sister, please don’t blow air on people’s faces; it’s really cold."
Chen Peiling giggled, too lazy to pay attention to his words.
Stepping out of the Boys' Dormitory, she felt particularly happy, dancing under the dim streetlights.
Her movements were beautiful, like a cloud, light and airy, floating here and there. At times she leaped up like a fluttering butterfly, at other times she bent down like a small bridge. She danced around Ye Chenfeng, sometimes hovering above his head, and at other times playfully teasing couples strolling through the campus.
"I used to hate all boys; seeing couples made me feel murderous." Chen Peiling glared at a couple holding hands intimately in front of her, especially the girl who leaned against her boyfriend's shoulder like a boneless person. Angrily, she exclaimed, "What a scoundrel!"
"Senior Sister, don’t be upset. Let’s go find Ye Feng," Ye Chenfeng said hurriedly, fearing that Chen Peiling would cause more trouble.
As they walked through the campus, the cold wind howled, and to others, Ye Chenfeng appeared to be alone.
Chen Peiling kept her distance from him, following him closely yet intermittently drifting away.
She cast no shadow.
She must be very light, almost as weightless as the paper effigies found in funeral homes. Ye Chenfeng pondered to himself; the Ghost-Collecting Gourd at his waist had an aura about it. The reason Chen Peiling maintained her distance must be because she sensed the gourd's spiritual energy.
The Little Monk Shen Binghan once mentioned that this Ghost-Collecting Gourd had an extraordinary origin.
At the bottom of the Ghost-Collecting Gourd was a copper coin.
This coin was unlike ordinary ones; it had a square hole in the center with inscriptions on one side that read: "Slay Ghosts and Exorcise Evil," while the reverse displayed a Bagua symbol.
The Ghost-Quaking Scripture noted: "Slay Ghosts and Exorcise Evil on one side; Bagua small flower coin on the other."
Shen Binghan once told Ye Chenfeng that the ghosts collected by the Ghost-Collecting Gourd would no longer have the chance for Reincarnation after entering it. Therefore, he could not casually use the Ghost-Collecting Gourd on any ghost that had not committed serious wrongs.
Ahead lay an Artificial Lake, its waters long dried up. The cracked earth and withered lotus stems trembled slightly in the night breeze. As they reached this point, Chen Peiling suddenly slowed her pace, her gaze distant and her expression complex as she stared at the lake.
"I met him here... I love lotuses. I secretly came to pick some and fell into the water; he pulled me up..."
Ye Chenfeng stood with his hands behind his back, looking at the desolate lake. Indeed, everything had changed; the love story between Chen Peiling and Ye Feng was poignant and sorrowful. Who knew if anyone would continue their story?
The library closed at nine-thirty as usual.
Ye Chenfeng activated his Yin Eye, allowing Chen Peiling to hide aside and quietly wait for Ye Feng's arrival.
When the library fell completely silent, with no signs of anyone walking at the entrance, it felt particularly cold and eerie with only Ye Chenfeng remaining.
The wind tirelessly swayed the branches, and under the dim streetlights, insects continuously flitted toward the lampshades.
Ye Chenfeng felt that the night was too quiet; he wondered if Ye Feng would show up tonight.
Just as he was lost in thought, he heard footsteps. These footsteps were not human; they were light and weightless. He did not turn around but felt a heaviness on his shoulder. Thinking it was Ye Feng, he was about to look back when Chen Peiling suddenly shouted, "Don't turn around."
