A chill touched Liu's fingertips, and she let out a startled scream, causing Yuan Ye, who was waiting for her in the hall, and Liu, who had just stepped into the elevator, to rush over in shock to see what was happening. 0

"Hey, why isn't the light on?" Yuan Ye shouted as he ran ahead. In the darkness, he couldn't see where Liu was. He leaned against the wall to adjust to the dim corridor and finally spotted Liu crouched on the ground, terrified and curled up beside the wall, too scared to move. 0

"Who’s on the floor?" Liu, who had just arrived with her phone in hand, used its faint light to look at the curled-up figure on the ground and whispered. 0

"I don't know... I think I touched his face; it's cold..." Liu felt a bit calmer seeing them approach and slightly shifted her body, trying to stand up. At that moment, she let out a low gasp, "Ouch, I twisted my ankle..." 0

"You twisted your ankle? Does it hurt?" Yuan Ye wanted to reach out to help her but noticed Liu nearby and hesitated. He said to Liu, "Stay with her! I'll go check the main circuit; maybe this line tripped." With that, he pulled out his phone and turned on the screen; it was an Apple 5 series with a bright display that served as a makeshift flashlight. 0

"Okay, go ahead! I'll take care of this," Liu replied as she supported Liu and leaned against the wall, waiting for Yuan Ye to activate the light so they could see who was lying on the ground. 0

In an instant, one by one, the overhead lights flickered on, flooding the corridor with white light. Both Liu and Liu turned their heads simultaneously to look at the curled-up body on the floor. "Lao Ran... how did he end up here? Didn't he disappear several days ago?" 0

"Is he okay..." Yuan Ye said as he jogged over and saw Lao Ran's body on the ground. It seemed like he had stopped breathing; his grayish-white face showed no signs of life. 0

The two women dared not approach. Yuan Ye crouched down and reached out to check Lao Ran's breath. A faint whisper of air escaped him. "He's still breathing; call 120!" Originally intending to perform CPR, she abandoned that thought upon realizing he still had breath. 0

Hearing that Lao Ran was still alive finally eased Liu's tension. She hopped over with Liu's support to Lao Ran's side for a closer look. She glanced up at Yuan Ye, who seemed to have dialed the number but frowned at her phone and murmured, "Strange; why is it always busy... I'll try again in a moment." 0

"Later, Liu should also go to the hospital with 120 to check your ankle," Yuan Ye said as she tucked her phone away and knelt beside Lao Ran, holding his palm in hers while her handsome face fell into deep thought. 0

"This little issue can be resolved by finding Xiao Pang later; there's no need for a hospital visit; I'm not that delicate," Liu said just as she noticed Lao Ran twitch slightly on the ground. 0

"Lao Ran, are you awake?" Yuan Ye gently held Lao Ran's cold hand and softly called out to him. 0

"I'll go get him some water." 0

"Go ahead! Get the hot water," Yuan Ye suddenly felt an inexplicable chill emanating from Lao Ran's body, slowly flowing into his palms, making him feel as if he had fallen into an ice pit. It was so cold... 0

Sitting in the car, Ziya felt a deep unease in her heart, a nameless panic washing over her like the cold winter wind. "Anqing, I want... to go back and take a look." She couldn't spare a moment to admire the vibrant night scenery; her mind was solely focused on those still at the News Agency. She wanted to warn them that the News Agency was unsafe, but she was just a student who had recently stepped into society. Who would believe in such superstitious nonsense? And what about Yuan Ye... would he believe her? 0

Liu Haoming, hearing his daughter speak this way, slightly shifted his shoulders while continuing to concentrate on driving. Zi Anqing showed a hint of confusion but still held onto her daughter's somewhat cold hand. 0

"Where do you want to go back to?" 0

"To the News Agency." 0

"What do you want to do?" 0

"They're in danger." 0

"They're all adults; do they really need you to worry about them?" Liu Haoming finally couldn't hold back and spoke up. His hands skillfully shifted gears and turned the steering wheel to avoid the red light. 0

"Dad, Anqing Mama, really. We all need to go back and check." Ziya turned around repeatedly, looking towards the direction of the News Agency building. 0

Liu brought over some water and looked at Yuan Ye, who was shivering uncontrollably. "Yuan, what's wrong with you?" As she asked this, she noticed Lao Ran's eyes seemed to flicker slightly. But that glimpse of something not quite human in his gaze sent a chill through her heart. "Yuan, move aside; let me take a look." 0

Yuan Ye had actually been trying to pull his hand away from Lao Ran's grip. In fact, he had already attempted once, but it seemed Lao Ran held onto him tightly, and he felt increasingly cold. The early autumn weather made him exhale large puffs of white mist. 0

"Heavens, Yuan, you..." Liu also sensed something was off. Unfortunately, with her injured foot, she could only lean against the wall and helplessly wait for Liu to come and assist her. 0

“Ah... um...” A voice that did not belong to Lao Ran suddenly emerged from his mouth, causing Yuan Ye, who was still trapped, to feel even more anxious. Liu acted quickly, hastily pulling out the Jade in her hand and touching it to the point where their arms were bound. The Jade emitted a dazzling light, and the grip suddenly loosened. 0

“Damn old hag... you'll pay for this.” Lao Ran let out a piercing scream, abruptly flipping over and crawling up, his arms hanging low and his head drooping. The sight was terrifying enough to make Yuan Ye jump back instinctively. 0

Yuan Ye quickly helped Liu and they ran towards the hall. Liu held the Jade tightly, believing that with it in hand, they would be safe from danger. But then, the possessed Lao Ran lunged at her like a fierce beast. Seeing the ferocious approach of Lao Ran, she froze for a moment before hurriedly retreating towards Yuan Ye. 0

Yuan Ye supported Liu as they reached the glass door of the hall. He shouted loudly at the security guard patrolling outside, but it seemed the guard didn’t see them at all. Instead, he glanced at their side of the glass door and pulled out the remote control for the rolling shutter. 0

“It’s over…” Yuan Ye stared in disbelief as the guard pressed the remote, causing the rolling shutter at the entrance to clatter down. The glass door wouldn’t budge, and the shutter was about to fall. Liu trembled all over, her throat dry and unable to make a sound. She and Yuan Ye desperately tried to pull open the latch of the glass door. However, that cold latch seemed to be working against them, remaining completely still. 0

As Liu stepped back, she stumbled and nearly fell, but in her panic, she accidentally dropped the Jade, shattering it into pieces. The evil Lao Ran maintained his bizarre posture, advancing step by step. 0

Ziya felt an increasing sense of unease in her heart. She kept urging Liu Haoming, “Dad, can you go any faster? They’re in grave danger!” 0

Zi Anqing quickly nudged her daughter with her elbow and said, “Calm down! Can you be quiet? If you keep making noise like this, your father will mess up.” Liu Haoming's expression was stern as he gazed ahead; he had long been aware of what was happening with the News Agency. Now he had to go back to save Yuan Ye, who had once been his rival in love—his feelings were complicated. 0

“Anqing, call Zhang Maocai and see where he is,” Liu Haoming instructed calmly. 0
