Ziya was caught completely off guard when the Black Cat pounced on her. "Ah... ah..." With a startled scream, she stumbled backward and bumped into the edge of the table. The instant noodles in her hand slipped from her grasp and spilled all over the floor with a soft thud, scattering everywhere. Ziya thought that perhaps the cat had caught a whiff of the buttery scent and, being hungry, wanted to eat. However, what she saw was the sleek black cat, nonchalantly licking its fur as it strutted out of the bedroom. 0

Ziya was now splattered with greasy noodle residue. As she tugged at her shirt collar, a strong smell of butter invaded her nostrils before she could even bring it close to her nose. "Ugh..." Ziya grimaced in disgust, biting her lip. She needed to find something to change into immediately. She wondered if there were any suitable clothes in the wardrobe in her bedroom. Her mind racing, her hands had already opened the wardrobe. Wow! Inside were rows of clothes; although they were somewhat outdated, they were once the most fashionable styles on the market. 0

Ziya pulled out a dusty pink sweater to replace her soiled top and then prepared to clean up the mess in her bedroom. 0

She sniffed at her nose, trying to resist the buttery odor lingering in the room, feeling increasingly frustrated. The noodles were gone, and now she had to clean up this mess. Ziya took out some paper rolls from her suitcase and dragged the trash bin next to her desk forward. Reaching for a paper towel, she intended to pick up the noodles and toss them into the bin. But what she saw next was unbelievable: wriggling worms crawling over the curled-up noodles, their color almost indistinguishable from that of the noodles themselves—if one wasn't careful, they would go unnoticed. The sight made Ziya's stomach churn... 0

"Ugh... spit... ugh... spit..." Ziya retched violently, feeling as if she might faint from it all. Tears streamed down her face from the relentless heaving; it was an unbearable sensation. 0

After cleaning up her bedroom, Ziya still felt hungry, but thinking about those disgusting noodle worms left her with no appetite whatsoever. Why had that cat attacked out of nowhere? The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. She quickly pulled out her phone to call Sun Meng. 0

The call connected, but all she heard was a crackling noise reminiscent of static electricity that hurt her eardrums. Confused, she shoved her phone back into her pocket. Then she remembered there was a landline in the living room and hurried there to make another call to Sun Meng. 0

After a series of busy signals, a female voice chimed in: "Sorry, the number you dialed is currently busy." Ziya thought that perhaps Sun Meng was calling her mobile phone and quickly hung up the landline. Just then, she heard some rustling noises coming from the staircase. She set down the phone and turned towards the sound; although the living room was brightly lit, it still failed to illuminate the dark corner of the stairs. 0

Noticing a milky-white hidden switch on the wall by the staircase, Ziya reached out and pressed it. With a click, light flooded the stairwell. She saw something trembling beneath a piece of floral fabric and instinctively reached out to pull it aside for a closer look. 0

"Woof... um... woof woof..." Startled by a sudden barrage of barking, Ziya froze for a moment before spotting an adorable Pekingese dog with big round eyes. She recognized this breed; they were known for their distinct personalities and strong desire for attention... 0

Looking at this cute little dog eased Ziya's racing heart from earlier fright significantly. A smile spread across her face as she called out its name. 0

"Shuangshuang... come here... 'Woof... woof... woof... um...'” To her surprise, Shuangshuang seemed unimpressed by Ziya's attempts at affection; from its angry barks, it appeared to be saying: "Don't get too close; I'm also female..." Ziya loved small animals dearly and was undeterred by Shuangshuang's protests as she reached out to pet it. 0

Shuangshuang crouched on the ground, barking softly with hostility in its eyes, fixated on Ziya's every move. "Come here... Shuangshuang, good girl..." The more Ziya looked at it, the more she liked it, and as she spoke, her hand reached out toward Shuangshuang. 0

"Woof... Woof... Um... Ah... you..." A terrifying scene unfolded in an instant; Shuangshuang bit down on Ziya's outstretched hand, its sharp teeth piercing her fingertip deeply. Ziya recoiled in pain as if electrocuted, while the little creature let out a yelp and quickly darted away from her feet. 0

Crimson droplets of blood welled up from Ziya's fingertip. She hurried to the bathroom to wash the wound with soap, then went to the storage room to grab a first aid kit and take out iodine tincture to disinfect and bandage it. Only then did she remember Shuangshuang and looked around, but had no idea where the little rascal had run off to. 0

Ziya sighed inwardly; tonight was truly unfortunate. A cat had knocked over her instant noodles, and upon inspection, she found bugs in them. She had wanted to pet Shuangshuang but ended up being attacked instead. Sighing again and feeling a bit thirsty, she decided to check the fridge for any snacks. 0

Upon opening it, she was pleasantly surprised to find a cake inside—probably someone’s birthday cake! The white milk and cream on top were adorned with several cherries that gleamed like rubies. 0

Ziya's appetite returned instantly at the sight of the cake. She squinted her eyes and smiled, momentarily forgetting the pain in her fingertip. Taking the cake from the fridge, she headed toward her bedroom. Just as she stepped onto the stairs, that fierce Shuangshuang appeared out of nowhere again, barking wildly and chasing after her. This dog was so aggressive; Ziya walked quickly, and it followed suit, leaving her feeling quite helpless. 0

Originally a very cute pet dog, today it made Ziya feel unexpectedly uneasy. At this moment, her mind was in chaos from being startled by both a cat and a dog. It seemed she couldn't handle these two little troublemakers and would have to wait for Sun Meng to return before figuring things out. Once inside her bedroom, Ziya placed the cake on her desk and hurriedly closed the door behind her. 0

Sitting dazed on the bench, it was already late at night, and sleep eluded her. She needed to calm down and continue brainstorming for the Lin Sisters' story. Wiping her hands with a tissue, Ziya picked up a plastic fork and took a small piece of cake into her mouth while chewing and tapping away at the keyboard... 0

Li Darwen returned home from work but didn’t see Wan Yu anywhere. He called out several times without receiving a response and wondered if Wan Yu had gone home to ask her father and sister for something. 0

Li Darwen arrived at Wan Yu's house, where it seemed only a maid with braided hair was cleaning up. "Hello, has Wan Yu come home?" Li Darwen politely asked the maid. 0

"Wan Yu... she..." The maid glanced around anxiously; before she could say anything further, footsteps approached from the back door. Upon seeing Wan Yu, Li Darwen hurriedly went to greet her. 0

"Wan Yu, you didn't even tell me you were going home, leaving me to search for you everywhere." 0

"You... umm... I just got home too," Wan Yu replied with a smile. She casually linked her arm with Li Darwen's as they walked outside together. 0

Watching their retreating figures, the nanny frowned slightly, shaking her head in secret, sensing something was off. 0

"Hey! That thing..." Zhen's shout startled both Li Darwen and Wan Yu, causing them to turn around simultaneously. A warning glimmer flashed in Wan Yu's eyes, prompting Zhen to hurriedly pretend nothing was amiss and continue with her cleaning. 0

"Is your dad not home?" Li Darwen asked quietly, puzzled as he held onto Wan Yu's arm. 0

"Uh... my sister had an incident today, so my dad is at the hospital now," Wan Yu said shyly with a smile. 0

At the hospital, Lin Yunfei looked at her daughter lying on the hospital bed. She had suffered a minor head injury and was experiencing some concussion symptoms, but as long as she rested well, they needed to continue observing her for signs of potential intracranial bleeding. 0

Lin Yunfei had to rush back to the company for a meeting, so she called her other daughter at home to inform her that she wouldn't be able to return until after handling matters at the hospital. Just then, two people entered the room where the girl lay wrapped in bandages—one was Wan Yu and the other was Li Darwen. 0

As the story reached a pause, Ziya reached out for a piece of cake. Just as she was about to take a bite, she felt the cake tremble. She shifted her gaze from the computer screen to the cake, and that glance made her scream in horror. 0
