I looked at him coldly, a hint of mockery curling at the corners of my mouth. "Regret? The thing I regret the most is being blind enough to marry you in the first place!"
I picked up the microphone, my voice calm and powerful. "This is the truth. My daughter, Duo Duo, did not accidentally fall; she was brutally abused to death!" My gaze swept across everyone in the audience, finally resting on Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu. "Do you have anything left to argue?"
Zhou Mingze instinctively glanced at Teacher Xu, only to find him staring back in terror, his eyes filled with panic and despair.
Flashes from cameras continued to burst around us as reporters clamored to ask questions. I handed over the evidence to the police officers who had been waiting nearby, then turned to face the parents in the audience, bowing deeply. "Thank you all for being here today and for seeking justice for Duo Duo!"
The flashes kept going, reporters swarming around me. "Such scum must be severely punished! They cannot be allowed to go free!"
I took a deep breath, trying to calm the turmoil within me. I looked at the two police officers sitting nearby; their expressions were grave, clearly shocked by the contents of the video.
"Officers, this is not everything!" I took another USB drive from my secretary. "Here is more evidence of them fabricating the accident scene!"
The screen switched to surveillance footage from the day of the incident. In the video, Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu were seen sneaking around on the kindergarten rooftop.
The police began their routine questioning as I recounted everything in detail and handed over all the evidence.
"Ms. Su, thank you for your cooperation," one officer said. "We will investigate this matter thoroughly."
The audience erupted in chaos as angry parents stood up, pointing fingers at Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu while loudly denouncing them. The flashes continued as reporters hurriedly documented this scene.
Next, the footage shifted to Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu conspiring in an office. Under dim lighting, their expressions were twisted and sinister. "...As long as Su Mohan's reputation is ruined, her assets will be ours..." Zhou Mingze's greedy voice echoed as a microphone was thrust in front of me.
"Ms. Su, when did you discover this evidence?" a female reporter shouted.
I slightly turned away from the blinding flashes and calmly replied, "After my daughter's death, I have been searching for the truth. I reviewed all surveillance footage and spoke to everyone involved." I answered coolly while presenting all evidence before the public.
"Ms. Su, how did you obtain this evidence?" another female reporter eagerly asked as she held out a microphone towards me.
I shifted slightly away from the intrusive microphone and replied evenly. Turning to the police officers, I said, "I believe that justice will be served by the law!"
The two officers nodded; one of them said, "Ms. Su, please rest assured that we will handle this matter according to the law."
The video ended, leaving the audience in an uproar. Angry voices rose and fell like waves.
After speaking, I turned and left the auditorium, my secretary following closely behind, clearing a path through the crowded room.
Once in the car, my secretary glanced at me through the rearview mirror and asked with concern, "President Su, are you alright?"
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Take me to the police station!"
At the police station, I sat on a cold chair, facing Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu across from me. They bowed their heads in silence, their previous arrogance completely vanished.
An officer handed me a document and said, "Ms. Su, we will provide you with a fair resolution."
Zhou Mingze closed his eyes in despair, knowing it was all over. Teacher Xu broke down in tears.
I nodded and stood up to leave the interrogation room. My secretary was waiting outside and handed me a glass of water. "President Su, you’ve worked hard."
I took the glass and sipped from it, feeling slightly calmer.
"Ms. Su, what do you plan to do next?" another male reporter pressed.
"I will submit all evidence to the police. I believe the law will deliver a just verdict." My tone was firm and resolute, without a hint of hesitation.
I looked around once more and continued, "This evidence has taken me considerable time and effort to gather. It includes surveillance footage from the kindergarten, call records between Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu, as well as testimonies from several witnesses." I paused for a moment, my gaze sweeping over the visibly anxious Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu.
Turning to face the cameras again, I spoke with determination, enunciating each word clearly: "Zhou Mingze, Teacher Xu, do you have anything else to say?"
Zhou Mingze's face turned pale, his lips trembled but he couldn't utter a word. Teacher Xu collapsed to the ground, her eyes vacant. "This is regarding your daughter Duo Duo's personal accident insurance claim; please take a look."
I took the document from her and carefully reviewed it. After confirming its accuracy, I signed my name.
"Thank you." I handed the document back to the officer, my voice slightly hoarse.
"I want to seek justice for my daughter, and for all the innocent children like Duo Duo!"
As we stepped out of the police station, a throng of reporters surrounded us, clamoring to ask questions.
"Ms. Su, do you have any more evidence to reveal?"
"Ms. Su, do you believe Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu have given up resisting?"
Two police officers escorted Zhou Mingze and Teacher Xu away. I watched their departing figures, my heart filled with mixed emotions.
I declined all interview requests from the reporters and, accompanied by my secretary, headed straight to Duo Duo's grave, leaving behind this city filled with sorrowful memories.
The secretary drove in silence, understanding that I needed some time to collect my thoughts.
He glanced at me through the rearview mirror, hesitating before speaking. Finally, he softly asked, "President Su, where shall we go next?"
"To the police station," I replied firmly, determination in my eyes. "I want to see them brought to justice!"
As I exited the police station, I took a deep breath and looked up at the sky. Duo Duo, Mommy can finally bring you home.
Days later, the media flooded with reports about the kindergarten abuse case.
