Chapter 1: Interrogation Room 0

In the late-night interrogation room of the city police station, cold light cast shadows on Guan Yumei's face as she sat in silence, her hands tightly clenched, knuckles turning white. An invisible sense of oppression filled the air, with two young officers—Officer Li and Officer Wang—fixated on her. 0

Officer Li flipped through Guan Yumei's personal file, a hint of confusion and unease in his eyes. He noted that the file mentioned she had an eight-year-old daughter, Lele. Officer Li looked up and tentatively said, "Ms. Guan, we know you have a daughter named Lele." 0

Guan Yumei's body trembled slightly at that moment; a flicker of fear crossed her eyes but was quickly overshadowed by anger. She remained silent, gripping her hands even tighter. 0

"We just want to help you," Officer Li continued, his tone gentle yet laced with pressure. At that moment, Officer Wang pulled out several photographs—images of Lele playing at a playground. The little girl in the photos beamed with joy, a stark contrast to the atmosphere of the interrogation room. 0

Guan Yumei suddenly lifted her head, tears welling in her eyes as she bit down hard on her lip, refusing to speak. The photographs felt like sharp blades piercing the softest part of her heart. 0

In an instant, she lost control. Guan Yumei slammed her hands on the table and screamed, "No one is allowed to touch my daughter! Those beasts!" Her voice echoed in the silent room like thunder. 0

Officer Li and Officer Wang exchanged glances, taken aback by her intense reaction. In that moment, they realized this mother was hiding deeper secrets and pain. 0

Guan Yumei's emotional outburst was like a flood breaking through a dam; she trembled all over yet appeared resolute. What had she endured? This question hung in the air like an unsolved mystery, impossible to look away from. 0

And this was only the beginning of the story... 0

Chapter 2: The Path of Growth 0

Guan Yumei's screams gradually subsided, replaced by muffled sobs. 0

The interrogation room fell into silence once again, with only the cold light witnessing her despair and pain. Officer Li handed her a cup of hot water, which she mechanically accepted but showed no intention of drinking. 0

"Ms. Guan," Officer Wang broke the silence, "we understand how you feel, but you need to calm down and cooperate with our investigation." 0

"Cooperate?" Guan Yumei suddenly lifted her head, her eyes filled with anger and sarcasm. "What can you possibly understand? Can you understand the despair of a mother?" 0

She slammed the cup onto the floor, water splashing everywhere, much like her shattered heart at that moment. "My life has been a tragedy from the very beginning." 0

Guan Yumei's thoughts drifted back to her childhood. She was born into an educated family; both of her parents were teachers who had high hopes for her. 0

"Yumei, you must strive to be the pride of our family," her father's stern voice echoed in her ears. 0

"A girl must be sensible, obedient, and study well to find a good husband," her mother's teachings were deeply imprinted in her heart. 0

From a young age, Guan Yumei was instilled with the belief that academic performance was the only measure of a person's worth. She studied tirelessly like a machine, never daring to slack off. She was the obedient daughter in her parents' eyes, a good student in her teachers' view, and a top achiever among her classmates. 0

But she was also a lonely girl without a childhood, joy, or friends. Deep down, she yearned for her parents' love, for companionship from friends, and for a warm home. Yet she dared not express it or rebel; she could only silently endure it all. 0

After finishing the college entrance examination, Guan Yumei successfully enrolled in a normal university. Finally, she could leave that oppressive home and pursue her dreams. 0

University life was free and full of hope. Guan Yumei tried to integrate into this new environment and make new friends. She met Zhang Lei, a sunny and cheerful boy who became her first love. 0

They studied together, discussed ideas together, and dreamed about the future together. Those were the happiest moments of Guan Yumei's life. 0

But this relationship faced strong opposition from her parents. 0

"You must break up with him! He is not worthy of you!" her father shouted angrily. 0

"We have arranged a blind date for you; he is the son of the director and has a promising future," her mother pleaded earnestly. 0

Guan Yumei found herself in a dilemma. She loved Zhang Lei, but she also did not dare to defy her parents' wishes. In the end, she chose to compromise and let go. The end of this relationship dealt a huge blow to Guan Yumei. She began to doubt herself, love, and life itself. 0

After graduating from university, Guan Yumei became a teacher, just as her parents had hoped. She loved her job and educated her students with knowledge and care. Yet, the loneliness deep within her and her longing for a family never faded. She yearned for a home of her own, a place that could provide warmth and support. But time and again, she was met with disappointment. 0

Both of her marriages ended in failure, leaving deep scars on her heart. Tears streamed down Guan Yumei's face as she painfully clutched her chest, as if trying to release all the suffering within her. 0

"What have I done wrong? Why is my fate so difficult?" 0

Her voice was filled with despair and helplessness, echoing in the empty interrogation room. Officers Li and Wang silently watched her, unsure of how to comfort this tormented woman. They could only wait for her to find the answers herself. 0
